Malibu shrugged lightly and smiled "it's not too bad, I mean yeah it sucks because I was such a player before...but, I'll survive I have friends at work it pays good and I get to write all the time. Plus I get to talk to my sis again, I don't need girlfriends." He said but his nose was crinkling the entire time a trait apparently shared by twins.

Laila tipped her head, noticing for the first time that what Chris said was true. Maybe she did crinkle her nose after all… Her expression softened. "Mali… everyone needs a special someone outside of family. Are the rules really that strict?" she asked, worried about him. "I hate to see you looking so forlorn. And don't tell me you're all happy with it. You look like a lost puppy right now." She said seriously, her smile faint.
Mali sighed "yeah they are that strict, it's to keep them safe and not ruin any lives...I mean if an enemy spy was after me he would go straight after those I love. You've seen all the action films it's the only thing not exaggerated, I still hook up and flirt just can't commit to them." He sipped his wine "I'm not a puppy." He rebutled and smirked "I've grown up, same as you."
Laila rolled her eyes. "well that puts me in danger. Great. Thanks for the heads up." She smiled softly. "If you've already got one person to use against you, what's one more? I've been safe so far." She pointed out. Then she laughed, rolling her eyes. "The puppy's grown into a dog? Well. You're still cute, Mali. You can't deny that." She grinned. "It's a big reason for why you're so stinking popular among females. Don't deny it. I'll punch some sense into you." She teased. "Though I guess the whole agent thing helps too."
Malibu rolled his eyes and chuckled "you haven't changed, trying to make me seem far more popular then I am. I'm still a nerdy dork being an agent or not that hasn't changed." He ruffled her hair "you were the popular one Laila, so what have you been up to besides being with your guy?"
Laila shook her head and tried to look indignant. "Nerdy dorky agent." She corrected. She dodged out from under his hand, fixing her hair down again quickly. "Popular? Me? Nice sarcasm." She rolled her eyes. "I've been surviving Kenna being pregnant, and landing in a hospital, got a puppy, and I'm moving in with Chris." She said, summing up the year in one run on sentence. A lot had happened.
Malibu was taken aback "what? What? What?!" He didn't even know where to start "Kenna who? You don't mean that rich girl you hung out with in highschool?" He asked trying to recall names with faces it had been a very long time afterall. His sister's year scared him "why were you in the hospital?" He asked rubbing his forehead "I don't know what to even ask next?"
Laila sighed softly, knowing it would take some time to tell the whole story. "yes. That Kenna. We became good friends." She said, smiling. She was glad she and Kenna were on good terms again. "She got pregnant, and that was distressing because of… oh yeah. I guess you were gone for that too. I was raped, and had a kid. So Kenna's pregnancy was stressful to say the least. And my health was going down so I landed in the hospital, but everything is ok now." She said, summing it all up.
Malibu felt anger steaming up when she said the word rape and had a kid, he missed all of that? He remembered her letters and swallowed "I do remember that..." He said honestly and bit his lip shaking away the anger and just wrapping her into a hug and holding her tightly against his chest "you needed me and I wasn't there..." He said softly "I'm so sorry Laila..."
Laila didn't want to cry. She wanted to be brave, so she chewed her lip hard enough to keep the emotions down as she suddenly found herself in her brother's arms again. She let herself melt there. Nothing felt better than being with her other half again. But she didn't want him to know how horrifying that all had been. She didn't want him to blame himself, as she had blamed him for that year. He didn't deserve the self hate, so she just mumbled. "It's all right, Mali, its in the past. Everything is ok." Trying to be as convincing as possible.
Mali sighed lightly and kissed her head "love you...I'm glad to be back with you." He sighed and heloed her to the couch "so what's your plans for college? And the rest of your life?" He asked with a grin trying to keep the subjects upbeat and positive agsin.
Laila smiled softly, sitting beside him. "Well… I'm trying to finish my bachelor degree, and then I'll probably settle down and have a family, have a nice job. And try to have a relatively stress free life." she shrugged. "I sure have had my share of adventures so far…" She shook her head. A small pinging started up in the room as if on cue, and Brandon was immediately on his feet. "Code-13, Malibu, we have to move."
Malibu got up quickly and took his bag and turned off the alarm "Laila Im arrived the night is going to be ending now. I have to go, and I can't tell you why. I'll text you alright?" he said and left going to the elevator and he was gone.Chris smiled at his girl and grabbed the letters that Malibu dumped "Do you want these? I'll see if I can discipher them."
Brandon raked a hand through his hair, shaking his head. "Think it was really that great of an idea to tell her we're agents? She had a point back there. They could use her against you." he sighed as they left. "And man… her life is already crazy as it is." he shook his head as they arrived at headquarters. Laila sighed softly, watching her brother disappear through the elevators so fast she was left wondering what sort of emergency a 'code-13' could be. "Bye." She said softly, turning to Chris again. "Yeah. Might as well try to read them." She agreed, putting her letters in the guitar case for him to keep, and taking her box to carry his letters back out to the truck. "Thanks for coming Chris. That was a huge help."
Malibu got his headset on and typed on the screen getting the map up "I have to still be able to talk to her honestly just like when we were kids...we are twins, I missed her for four years she'll be ok,..." He sighed "yeah hope that guy treats her the way she deserves."Chris nodded and smiled "I'm glad everything is good with you and him, that you are best friends again. You deserve to have a best friend again." He got in the truck and smilef turning on the radio and singing to her.
Brandon nodded slowly, knowing how much his sister meant to Mali, but he didn't say any more on the subject. He was just worried about the girl. He glanced over at Mali's map and frowned a little. "You seeing that?" He pointed to the red dots. "There were definitely less last time."Laila nodded, hopping into the truck. She was very glad to have Mali back as well. She had missed him loads for the years he was gone. When Chris started singing, Laila giggled and gave his thigh a light squeeze. "You are just about the cutest boyfriend anyone could ask for." she teased as they drove home. It was nice to have a place they both could call home.
Makibu swore and quickly put in a new code "make that a code 8..." He swore and grabbed his supplies "looks like I'm going out as well Brand, can you get the jet ready looks like we're headed to Africa."Chris flushed "don't call me cute! Guys don't like being cute, they like being tough and manly..." He said pecking her cheek and smiled lightly "let's get home and see the pup."
Brandon nodded, already punching in the commands to prepare the jet. A low rumble started in the next room as the engine turned on. "I thought you were not going to lie to your sister. And saying you don't go to the field is totally a lie." he smirked. "Come on. We better go." he said, climbing the ramp into the jet. Laila laughed easily then. "Cute in girl language translates directly to tough and manly in guy language." She promised, grinning at him as she hopped out of his truck and walked up to the door, already hearing barking on the other side. "We're going to have to work on that…"
Malibu quickly entered the jet as he texted his sister "going to Africa I'll bring you something back." And then shut off his phone quickly and got his mission detsils and wrote out their back stories "Chtis would be a good agent." He said of the hand.Chris chuckled and picked up Munchkin and put him in Laila's arms, the minute he was there he stopped barking "he just missed his momma!" He said happily and put down the luggage "you here Squish?"
Brandon looked up from where he was in the middle of loading a few guns for them, and contacting mission head. "Chris?" He repeated. He thought for a moment and then shrugged. "Sure. He's got the 'mysterious rogue' vibe already. Why not?" He smiled. Laila got Mali's text, feeling immediately stressed before she forced herself to calm. She knew this would be the new normal, so she would have to get used to it. She smiled softly and texted back 'have fun!'. she put her phone away and held Munchkin, smiling down at the wriggly puppy. "Who's a good boy?" She asked, stroking his ears. "Missed me, Munchy?"
Krissy was sneaking up behind Chris, and she grinned, leaping on his back. "I got you!" She said, giggling.
Malibu nodded "he didn't even have to know...we could say it's an engineering job and he wouldn't need to be on the field or anything I don't want my sister to be even more worried then she is."Chris gasped and laughed spinning her around while she was on his back he landed with a plop squishing her on the couch "miss me? What homework did you get done?"
Brandon raised an eyebrow. "You mean she wouldn't have to know. There is no way you could trick him into working for an agency without him knowing. I'm all cool with asking HQ to bring him on as an engineer or something like you said, but he'd have to be able to keep quiet about it, if you didn't want Laila worrying." he said seriously. Krissy squealed when he pinned her and she laughed. "Mercy! Mercy! I did all my homework I promise!" she cried, giggling. "We finished another unit in math, I read a whole book, and the volleyball team is going to the tournament this weekend!"
Mali nodded "right she wouldn't have to know...we can't risk her life once more, but I think he'd be a good one to recruit...but it's nearly impossible to lie to my sister...she always knows! I know some agents that don't know who they work for, only those out in the field really know...he would be safe it would be fine."Chris laughed and got off of her "you tried out for the team? Since when? I thought you dispised school!" He said dramatically and tickling her "I want to come to the tournament no arguements!"
Brandon chuckled. ""Mali, that's because those who aren't on the field are too stupid to find out who they're working for. Somehow I feel that this Chris dude is smarter than that. But I'm sure he can keep a secret from Laila. Let's just call him in and see how it goes, alright?" he offered. He handed Mali a gadget. "Here's the transporter. Just look up your dude and type the location you want him."Krissy grinned, shaking her head. "I got tricked into trying out by my friends!" She protested, blushing as she thought of them. Thee out of the five were boys, and Krissy had had her first kiss while Chris was gone. "Alright alright!" She shrieked as he tickled her. "You can come to the tournament!"
Mali typed in his name and watched as he slowly appeared on the deck. Chris blinked completely shocked in everyway possible he looked at Mali and Brandon "so what just happened?" He asked confused. He wondered how the girls were, did they see him just disappear?!
Brandon smirked, shaking his head. "Welcome aboard. We're recruiting." he had always wanted to see someone else in the transporter, as he remembered his first time being rather shocking. "Don't worry, the first time using that method of transportation is a little rocky, but you get used to it."Meanwhile, Krissy was sitting on the floor, staring at the couch her mouth open in shock, and Laila had passed out from surprise.
Chris swallowed his mouth suddenly dry "you want me to be an agent? But...why? I'm not anything remarkable...and what about Laila? She's worried about Mali being one, she'd freak out if I was one?"Andrew helped them both as they were both too in shock too really remember what happened, it was a side effect of the teleporting as Andrew himself was once an agent, he decided to leave that exciting life and marry Emily.
Brandon chuckled. "Not remarkable, huh? We'll see. We can always use help in all areas of the field. You're good at engineering, are you not? And according to your records, you're good at a million things agents need. Like lock picking. And getting in and out of somewhere un noticed. Roof jumping. Etc." he smiled. "So, you joining or not? Laila doesn't have to know if you don't want her to stress."Laila slowly woke up again and found herself in bed. She smiled weakly when she saw Andrew. "Hey…" She smiled. "what happened? I had the strangest dream…." She shook her head, rubbing her temple. "Is Chris around here somewhere?"
Chris nodded "yeah I'll do it, but I can't be gone all the time like you guys, I need to be home with Laila and my sister...is that still a possibility?" He asked glancing out the window and blanching "holy...I'm in Africa..."Andrew had her sip some water as she sat up "he's at the store, he'll be back later...you hungry for anything? I have pancakes for dinner I know 'Brinner' is one of your favorite meals!"
Brandon grinned, handing him a badge. "Great." He said, nodding. "Yeah, of course. You always can turn down assignments, if you want more time off, you get paid for what you choose to do." he explained, shrugging. He looked out the window and smiled. "Yup. We're in Africa. How's your Swahili?" he grinned. "Mali and I have some stuff to do here, but you'll stay on the ship to complete training. It's a little different than in the old days. Should only take about fifteen minutes." he pointed to a blue button on the control centre of the jet. "Press that when you're ready to start. See you in about a half hour!"Laila drank the water and nodded slowly, accepting that answer. Then she grinned, nodding. "Yes! I'd love some." She said enthusiastically. "And sorry for barging in on you so long… I didn't plan on sleeping... We can get out of your hair once Chris is back." she promised.
Chris blinked and pressed the blue button and blinked as a voice asked for his name "Christopher Petersen..." He blinked looking around for where the voice was coming from.Andrew blinked and chuckled "Laila you are at Chris's apartment you are home, I'm the one intruding. Krissy is feeling nauseous so I'm going to go get her some medicine."
The voice was merely threaded through the sound system in the jet, and a light suddenly turned on, illuminating a table that held three throwing knives, a longer dagger-like blade, and one gun with three bullets loaded. "Choose your weapon, and prepare yourself." The voice said. With that, the lights went off again. But to the left of Chris, the sound of someone scuffing closer could be heard. Laila groaned, closing her eyes. "How long was I out? What on earth did I miss!?" She shook her head, not understanding why she was so disoriented like this. Then she frowned. "Nauseous? Is she alright?" She asked, worried about who she thought of as a sister.
Chris was a little apprehensive as he saw the weapons but then quickly grabbed the throwing knives and tossed it towards the scuffling. He pocketed the rest and shook his head, what did he sign up for? That thing could be anything they were in Aftica!Andrew already was in Krissy's room he helped her sit up and sip the medicine "here you go kiddo..."
The lights turned on, revealing a form on the ground. It was a man, and he had a throwing knife embedded in his chest. He groaned softly. "I would have helped you…" He murmured, and went slack. Then the lights went off. Another shuffling noise came from the other direction, a little louder. Krissy took the little cup of medicine and sipped it carefully. "Thank you Uncle Andrew." She said, smiling weakly. "am I dying?" She asked, being scared of even common colds, like most kids.
Chris swore and quickly helped the man, he removed the knife and tore his shirt wrapping up the wound "your ok...it didn't hit anything vital." He said worried and grabbed a water canteen and got him to drink "there you go..." He said sighing "I'm so sorry..."Andrew chuckled "your fine kid...don't worry, it's probably just a 24 hour sickness it'll pass. You aren't dying and your brother will be home later ok?"
The soldier smiled and relaxed, his breathing more regular. The lights flashed green for a moment. Then the simulation changed, and suddenly the soldier was healed, and up and walking with him. They were travelling across what looked to be an African desert. Then a fighter plane appeared on the horizon, flying quickly towards them, bullets exploding the sand. Krissy nodded, happy with that answer. She rested back against the pillows again, letting out a huff. "I still don't understand why he's at the store so long…" She admitted. "Chris has never liked shopping before." She mumbled, turning on her side and letting her eyes close.
Chris blinked confused but quickly ducked and dodged into the dense jungle and found a couple of explosives in his bag he threw them out exploding the plane and ducking as shrapnel flew at him. He swore as it sliced down his jaw painfully.Andrew smiled and pecked her head as he went to check on his sister "I'm going to need help with the pancakes you feeling up to it?"
The soldier that had come along, followed Chris's lead. He rubbed some salve that he had on Chris's jaw to help heal it. Chris would have had to deal with any injuries on his own if he had left the soldier dead. The lights flashed green again, and then everything went dark. When the lights came on again, the soldier was gone, and instead, Chris was in a crowded building. Everyone was in panic, screaming and running around. The building was coming down, and no one was thinking straight or heading for the exits. Laila was sitting on the edge of Chris's bed, looking rather disoriented. She looked up and smiled, glad for something to focus on. "Sure. I'd love to." She said honestly, hopping up. She walked with him into the kitchen and helped get out the ingredients. "How's life?" She asked.
Chris blinked and had to completely clear his mind as he directed the people to safety, he dodged the falling debri and groaned as the metal frame sliced his calf open but he kept running making sure everyone got out safety.Andrew smiled at her "Emily is on a vacation with her parents so I miss her, she loved the ring and proposal but marriage is probably going to happen next year after schooling. It's pretty crazy."
The simulation flashed green as he escaped once everyone was out, and then the jet returned. "You have passed phase one… testing application of previous skills." The voice announced. "Now for your training. Stage one: knowledge." A sign appeared, pointing to a chamber that had nodes hanging in it. "Please step inside the tube to commence advanced learning."Laila nodded in understanding, buttering the pan. "I'd love to see her sometime." She said, smiling softly. "We'll be sisters after your wedding." She shook her head. "That is just so crazy. I never thought you'd be married." She admitted. "I thought we'd stay kids forever."
Chris sighed getting his breath back, he limped to where the sign was directing him and wondered how long he had been away from home...were they worried? How would he explain the wounds? Would Laila be suspicious or upset? His mind was rushing so fast he was starting to get dizzy.Andrew chuckled "we all have to grow up eventually Goose, what about you? Are you guys planning marriage or just taking it slow? I mean moving in together is a huge step!" He tossed munchkin some bacon covered in peanut butter.
In the tube, knowledge of the world was fed into him at an advanced pace until he knew anything and everything he might need to be perceptive and knowledgable. Then a light flashed and he was released back into the ship. His wounds were already healing at an advanced pace. There was just blood on his clothes left. "Training finished." The voice beeped. Laila blushed, shaking her head. "We're waiting to finish school I believe." She said, shrugging, "After Kenna, we both wanted to take it slow." She explained. "I'm sure Chris will choose a good time to propose." She said, smiling as she flipped the pancake in the pan. "But…" She shrugged. "It's nice to have a boyfriend."
Chris was physically and mentally exhausted from all of this, he sat back releasing a breath "I'd really like to go home now!" He called to the empty room not expecting an answer but still needing to voice his opinion "my girl at home is probably worried..." Andrew smiled and nodded "yeah, I'm sure the boy will do good. There's no rush I mean you practically are already married without the ring spending every moment togethet seriously first time you guys have been apart right?"
The jet was silent for a moment, and then a hum started up deep in the ship as a teleporter was activated. "Have a nice flight back." The voice said. "I'll alert Malibu to where you are." it promised, and then Chris was transported back across the ocean and to his driveway. Only a startled bird saw him appear, and it flew away, squawking. Otherwise, his driveway was silent. Laila blushed further. "We're…. we're not really married… just close… but…" She shook her head, her face really heated up. "I don't even know what we are. I feel like we're really good friends. But… better than that… if that makes sense. It certainly feels a lot more special than just petty dating. But… we're not married." She shook her head, confused as to what Chris and she actually were. Speaking of, where was that boy!? It was getting late now. What was he doing? He never shopped...
Chris swallowed looking at the blood, the truck was hidden to show he was gone he sighed deeply "sorry baby..." He said to his truck as he broke the window and headlight kicking it in. He drove into the driveway and honked getting out and seeing there was shopping bags in the front seat...including a ring. Wow smooth...
Laila heard the honking and she jumped up, immediately rushing out. She saw the truck and relaxed, glad that Chris was back. She rushed to him, seeing as she got closer, that he had blood on his pants and that his truck window was smashed. She gasped, immediately hugging him and then staring at him. "What happened!?" She asked, shocked and scared. "What on earth happened?" She was scared, and slowly the shock from earlier was wearing at her. Her nerves were wrought. "I was worried… you never shop this long! Correction, you never shop at all!"
Chris smiled and hugged her "I'm fine...just some old foe trying to get revenge...this shopping was really important..." He said honestly and pulled out the box getting on one knee "this isn't romantic but...Laila will you make me the happiest guy that has ever lived?" He asked softly showing her the ring, it was amazingly the one he wanted to pick out...tricky agents. He didn't know how they did it.
Laila's eyes widened. Revenge? For what? Had he gotten hurt? And what sort of shopping was so important? All Laila's thoughts stilled when she actually saw the box he pulled out, and he got on one knee. Her heart clenched and then stuttered and she could feel tears of joy burning the corners of her eyes. "Chris…" She stammered, just staring at the little glittering ring. Then she nodded, her eyes filled with tears. "Of course I will!" She exclaimed, collapsing against him, her arms wrapped around his neck as she cried with joy. "I never thought you'd ask." She joked around the tears.((ooooo she's going to be so mad when she finds out about all this agent stuff. XD))
((Or will she ;) ))Chris spun her around and kissed her "I love you baby...I'll protect you no matter what..." He promised and smiled "I don't want to get married quickly still...but I want us to always have this promise together and this bond...ok? I love you Laila...I promise that will never stop." He kissed her deeply "do I smell bacon?"
((lol. I suppose we shall see XD)))Laila giggled and she slid the ring on her finger, admiring the way it sparkled. She loved it. But mostly, she loved it because it proved to everyone that she was Chris's, and no one else's. "That sounds lovely. Everything sounds lovely. I think I'm seeing everything in rose colour." She said, kissing him again as she grinned. "I love you too, Chris, I really do." Then she smirked, nodding. "You have an incredible nose, but yes. We were making Brinner while you were gone. Pancakes and bacon." She smiled.
