i actually just knew that they are lovers, i didn't that they were enemies, i didn't know that they commit suicide, i never never knew that the setting was in Verona.

The first I knew about the story was the ballet adaptation, when I was a child, so I knew most of the basics.

I started to love the play when I first saw Zeffirelli's film on TV...I was 6 years old. A little girl, shocked and pleased at the same time. This is a play of sudden love, rage, reckless, youth, infinite wanting and ...just melancholy. I still feel like that anytime I grab the book.

Before I read the play, I was told it was tragic. At the time, being 9/10, didn't understand the concept and was curious about this "adult" book. So I read it. My first Shakespeare and still my love. :o)

My aunt had Romeo and Juliet dolls on display in her house when I was a little girl; they were really BEAUTIFUL dolls, so that caught my attention. Plus also I saw the wishbone version, liked it, and ended up reading the play while hanging out in a library when I was a teenager.

Recently, I was reminded of how much I love the Romeo and Juliet story by a sale copy of the 2013 film. So I went and bought the book so I could re-read the play.

I DID know from the first (because of the wishbone episode) that Romeo and Juliet were enemies who fall in love and kill themselves, but until I read the play for myself I didn't fully understand HOW they went about it. As a child, I was told by somebody(who'd misunderstood the play) that they BOTH took a drug to make them sleep, then forgot when they woke up and saw each other "dead", were horrified, and so they killed themselves, LOL.
