JanEyre9 Looking forward to reading this series again! I've heard such great things about the audio version, I'm going that route this time :)

Stephen Fry reading the Harry Potter books goes down like butter. It's such easy listening and he sounds like he's having a lot of fun narrating the stories!

Katherine | 298 comments I'm re-reading the series again too and I do love Stephen Fry reading the series, but there is also a youtuber called Steven Garnett who is reading Harry Potter with his own sound affects and music, and I really enjoy his telling of the story as well as the voices he gives the characters. :)

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm gonna try to read my hardcovers from when i was a kid because i highlighted the crap out of those things so it'll be interesting to go back and see what i thought was highlight-worthy lol i remember i had like one color for draco, one for the twins, one for sirius, one for spells and stuff, and i think even one for 'when dumbledore is lying or otherwise being a dick to harry' lmao. buuuuuut also i hate reading physical books now so i guess if i get too annoyed i'll switch over to ebook.

I have! It's delightful.

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 2334 comments I will be joining in on this buddy read. I don't often re-read any books nor re-watch movies. I don't know why, but with this challenge and my horrible memory it seems appropriate.

Team Hermione Granger :)

I too am not generally a bit re-reader. I rewatched all 8 HP moves over a couple days maybe a year or so ago. Which I found was a nice refresher, but rereading books (usually) takes me much longer and I tend to just think of all the books I could be spending that time reading for the first time...

message 413: by Erika (new) - rated it 5 stars

Erika I have been meaning to re-read this for quite a bit! I’m in as part of Team Newt

M Beal | 1682 comments My favorite series ever! Going to re-read these, I am on Team Bellatrix.

Colleen | 238 comments I would love to read this series - I'll join in here for the first book - I'm on team Draco Malfoy. My daughter read this to me over 5 years ago, and honestly I couldn't hardly listen as we were always in the car. :(

Maybe I'll have to share again, now with my youngest who is 8.

Ashlee | 645 comments I'm so excited to be rereading these for Tower Teams! I'm on Team Draco Malfoy. It has been a very king time since I have read this series, and *gasp* I have not seen the movies. I'm looking forward to reading and watching to compare.

Now can be your moment to see what you missed (including scenes in the books that never made it too the screen - like extended scene/bonus features on a dvd hah in book format)

Ashlee!! Hey :) You have to find time to watch the movies. They really are worth all the hype.

I very rarely reread books. There are just too many I haven't read yet that I want to read. But I'm actually currently rereading The Lightning Thief only because my daughter is reading it for school so we are buddy reading it.

It's been over 11 years since I read the HP books, so I'm long overdue for a reread. I think this is just the push I need to actually do it. I'm on Team Tonks.

Karen ♐ (kmk1214) | 1866 comments I'm embarrassed to say that I've never read any of the HP books. So I'm going to join in. Kindle Unlimited has them.

I'm on Team Minerva McGonagall

That's wonderful that you're buddy reading with your daughter! What a good role model!

I have always felt like it's a waste of time to re-read or re-watch a movie, but there are times it is called for and this is one of those times. We can do it!

I must admit that I have not seen a single one of the movies either. In fact, even though I taught high school for 25 years, I never had an interest in Harry Potter until one of my colleagues told me I HAD to read it. LOL So I felt almost guilt-ed into it and was so glad because the books are SO FUN! I love all of the silly names.

That is my problem, too. I have current books I am dying to read and I feel like I'm wasting my time; however, I don't remember a lot about the HP books and with this challenge I feel re-reading is warranted...so re-reads, here I come!

message 429: by Lauri (new) - added it

Lauri (otwlauri) | 1724 comments I've re-read all the HP books (except the last two) numerous times, but it must've been over 10 years for this one. I have fond memories of reading them aloud to my now grown son. Even though he was perfectly capable of reading them for himself, he still wanted me to read them to him. We'll always have that bond. I never miss a Harry Potter weekend and will watch the movies whenever they're on TV.
I'm really looking forward to this buddy read!

Halli | 500 comments I'm in for the buddy read! Team Tonks here :) And I haven't read any of them since they first released and I read them at midnight. I've watched the movies a million times each but am excited to see all the little things I forgot about in the books.

message 431: by Silje (new) - rated it 4 stars

Silje (sikna) | 1444 comments I'm in for Team Remus Lupin. I have not read these books in years and probably not even all of them in English:P I think I will try the audio this time, since I don't have all the books available otherwise=)

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1070 comments Don't be too harsh, but I've never read the Harry Potter series!! I've only seen a couple of the movies.

I am looking forward to finally reading them now though...at the age of 47! This should be a fun buddy read. :-D

Melissa | 3779 comments Michelle!!! i can't believe it! LOL Please let us know if you love it!

Michelle's Empty Nest (mlundy5) | 1070 comments I know, right?!? All the excitement around this challenge is rubbing off on me big time!!

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2442 comments Team Sprout here. Is anyone else watching the countdown clock, waiting impatiently to pick up book 1?

yup! (Team Flitwick here) My trunk is packed & I'm on my way to platform 9 & 3/4. ;) (well impatient to pick up my first book for the challenge, won't be HP right off the bat for me though)

Just picking up dinner and then hunkering down for a good long read tonite....

Jammin Jenny (jamminjenny) | 4185 comments Just started my re-read of this book. I am surprised about how much I forgot! I have watched the movie so many times, but I only read the book once. I totally forgot the description of the day before Harry arrived at Number 4 Privet Drive, and also Dudley's friend going with them to the zoo I look forward to finding out what else I forgot! Maybe I need a rememberall.

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments i'm already a third of the way through it but i don't want to start posting a million things before everyone else gets started XD maybe i should go jot some notes down or something lol

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments I'm starting this one for Team Draco. I'm listening to it on audio and I'm so happy to be on this journey again. 3 chapters in and it's like coming home.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2442 comments Just got through the sorting. What did everyone think of the school song? I thought it was a bit too silly.

message 446: by Kaley (new) - rated it 5 stars

Kaley (kaleyamo) | 1982 comments Just finished chapter one, which is always the hardest for me. Actually, the first time I ever attempted to read this, I read the first chapter and gave up because 8-year-old me thought it was too boring. Luckily for me a year later I came back to it and powered through! But as much as I love the whole series... chapter one of this book is always a struggle for me! Anyone else have that problem?

message 447: by Dev (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dev (lumensuperbis) | 2778 comments #oops i kind of finished the book lol i jotted down some notes so i'll come back with some proper discussion in the morning

@Kaley i remember that when i was very little my mom bought and read the first one and wouldn't let me read it because she thought the whole thing at the end would be 'too scary' for me. i can't remember what age she finally let me read them [i was still fairly young] but i always found it hilarious because it's really not scary at all and also she let me read those 'scary stories to tell in the dark' books and those were so creepy lol

I always feel like this book is so slow to get started bc she has to set everything up but i'll talk more about that tomorrow. sleeeep now lol

Michelle (govmarley) | 3150 comments I definitely understand that, Kaley! It has a slow start, and I always hated how mean the Dursleys are to Harry - it made me so mad. But once those letters start coming, whoo! I was sucked in.

It's been a long time since I've read the series. I'm glad to come back to it.

Diane ~Firefly~ | 2442 comments I'm calling it a night after the second Quidditch game.

The first chapter never bothered me. I think it was the touch of magic involved that kept my interest.
