My favourite book is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire as I found the first 3 books were written with too young an audience for me (I read them as an adult). I wasn't going to continue but as I had the first 4 (got them in a deal when Goblet of Fire came out) I thought I might as well read the 4th one. I loved it and now the series is one of my faves.

Favourite movie is Half-Blood Prince. I think it was because I hadn't watched any of the movies or read any of the books in awhile so watching it was like catching up with old friends.

I plan on starting my re-read tonight, but I'm mostly just here to talk about it since I've read all the books at least twice. Every time a new book came out, I reread the whole series, which means I've read book 1 at least 7 times, and less and less as you go up in book. Although I don't think the series really begins to pick up until book 3.

Book 3 has been and will forever be my favorite. I actually stopped reading the series at the second book because I found it boring (I was basically a kid when I was reading it too).

message 154: by Jex (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jex (jexball) | 2227 comments I remember I was in High School? Middle school? when my mom gave me the 1st book as a bday present. I looked at her like, "really mom? a kid's book?". Then one night I was bored and picked up the book and read it all in one night because I was hooked. I can definitely see it being hard to get into the first two books though. I have trouble re-reading them because so little happens.

I think my favorite is probably book 6 because (view spoiler). I also really love Book 7 because it's soooooo chop full of action! Not a boring moment from page 1 to page end!

PS - I love that spell check recognizes Voldemort as a word.

message 155: by Justin (new) - rated it 5 stars

Justin (rockstarintraining) Goblet of Fire is my favorite, too. I felt like it was a turning point for the series, and I loved the new characters and new events introduced. Things definitely get darker in this one.

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I wanted to start the book today, but my sister isn't home (and I have to borrow it from her), but I'll get it tomorrow, and I'll start it then.

I agree with Justin, Goblin of Fire is my favorite too, but I think Deathly Hallows comes next.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I finished reading the book and I loved it, I'm glad I waited so long before rereading it since for me it felt like I was reading it for the first time again.

message 158: by Storm (new) - rated it 3 stars

Storm Since I'm reading the book for the first time, I don't have a favorite of the series, and I haven't seen all the movies either but I did like the first few movies. :D

I think because I've seen the movies and did some Pottermore stuff I know a bunch already so it's going very slowly for me and it's seeming boring right now but World building is always a slow go so that's expected. I kinda regret not picking this book when it first came out, I think I would have loved it XD but I was looking for books on Mythology and such at the time. *shrugs*

The clever thing about this series is that as Harry grows up over the series the books change to reflect that - the stories get longer and more complex, they get darker, relationships are more complicated and characters/situations become less black and white re the question of whether they are good or not.

message 160: by Storm (new) - rated it 3 stars

Storm Just reached chapter 10!

The further I go in the story the more interesting it's becoming. :o I definitely see where movies and book are different but I recognize so many of the lines and it makes me SO glad the movie stuck so close to the book, considering time limitations and whatnot.

Can't wait to finish and start the next in the series!

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I Wondering the same thing, would we use this thread for the whole series or are we gonna have separate threads. Now that I have read the first book I have to keep going with my reread of them all.

message 162: by [deleted user] (new)

It would be kind of convenient if we could use the same thread for all of them...I think if we set it up as a 'series read' we can do that.

Anita Reads | 1677 comments Yay, I just got the book from my sisters, and I'm ready to start :)

Imke (immie75) | 1644 comments Started re-reading yesterday. I stopped counting how many times I've read/seen this series. I have the set 5 times, paperback - Dutch, paperback hardcover mix - English, ebook - Dutch, ebook - English and the DVD's. I would love to have the audiobooks as well, but they are expensive, 212 euro for the set.

Anyway I've read chapters 1-3
I like the start, but the best things are yet to come. This is my favorite thing about reading books more than once, you know what comes next and looking forward for your favorite parts. Also I seem to discover new things in the story.

Aunt Petunia always makes me think of my aunt. Not when it comes to character, but more the way she is described. My aunt is realy nice, definitely not like Petunia.

I'm looking forward to the next few chapters (view spoiler)

So started rereading tonight. Realized it has been a seriously long time since I read the first book. I will probably also finish it tonight lol It is so good and clear, and I'm picking up on all the little hints. My favorite parts so far (that are literally taking me back to my childhood *tear*):

I'm still hoping to join in on this discussion as a re-read, but running out of time to do so. I'm so jealous of all you people that can read a book in one day! I can never do that.

Jenn (engelsigh) | 1339 comments I would have to say that Goblet of Fire is my favorite too...it's kind of the last book before things get very bleak. I didn't like 5 very much. I hate that female teacher...I forget her name.

I'm rereading the Sorcerer's Stone right now. This will be I think my 8th time reading it, but I haven't read it since the last book came out so it's good to be back. I love the Harry Potter series this time of year in particular. Don't know why.

Anyway....I'm on chapter 7 ... they're just about to be sorted into their halls.

To be honest, Harry Potter and anything under 200 pages are probably the only books I could read in a day lol Although sometimes, when I'm waiting in agony to get assignments back, I'll read more to just distract me.

I remember this line of thinking too...and then I found it funny when I went to DC in 2008, and went to the Bookstore at the National Cathedral there were books comparing Harry Potters good morals and values to Christianity...I guess they figured, if they can't beat him, put a positive spin on it and join?

So...I'm in this HP weight loss challenge on MFP and they ask you sorting questions, etc. And in other quizzes and Pottermore, etc. I try to get sorted into Ravenclaw because it just seems to fit me, so I answer the questions that kind of go along with learning. But I always get Gryffindor. Every time. Not complaining, just think it's funny. The Sorting Hat can't be tricked ;)

That is literally my heaven. Although for some unknown reason, I would also like to be speeding along on a train or in the middle of the ocean on a ship at the same time.

By the way, just finished, and it was much more magical this time around, knowing what I know, and building myself up for rereading a book that made such an imprint on my childhood and most of my friends' childhoods.

Off to the second!

That looks cool! I don't know, but I think it looks way better than Harry's wand. And yea I got Harry's wand last year too! Now everytime I reread or watch the DVD, I'll hold it and swing it and point it and pretend like I'm a wizard. Weird, I know. ;D

I think it very much depends on a book. I know with HP 7 I was happy I started reading it over the weekend as I couldn't put it away, and read all through the night.

I can also read most books in one day.

They really are. But they also seem oddly realistic. I've met people like them before, you know? They might be a little more caricature-y but still.

I'm starting The Chamber of Secrets Too. This is my least favorite HP book, but hopefully I'll like it more than the first time I read it.
