Anita Reads | 1677 comments Seriously. I love the movies. Of course the books are better, but I try to keep them separate. I loved how Alan Rickman portraits Snape.

The only books I read before seeing the movies were 6th and 7th.

Logan (loganturner) | 1643 comments Newbies! So great. I just hope they don't feel the pressure to love them.

Okay, maybe I do.

So regional settings with Pottermore don't let me buy the Jim Dale narration as it is "US English" so that makes the "choice" easy. I don't know I could listen to Harry Potter without an English accent anyhow, and I adore Stephen Fry... I have him as the voice of the sat nav in my car ;)

Thanks! I'm thinking about listening to them this time. I'll have to check out Jim Dale.

I'm horrified!! I loved those movies! :'(

Lol...it's okay...as much as I loved the movies, I do recall one scene that was supposed to be really sad that my daughter kept rewinding and laughing....I forgive her too. ;)

So, I'm going to try to do a re-read with everyone. I just bought a new set because I lent out a couple of the books and didn't get them back (I hate when that happens!) and I picked up the audio with Jim Dale from the library. Hopefully, that will help. November is going to be a super busy buddy reading month! :D

Justin (rockstarintraining) It's been a long time since I've participated in a buddy read. I think I've signed up for st least six for November. I guess I'm an all-or-nothing when it comes to this stuff.

Tory Hendershot (nghtstlkr64) | 241 comments I'll join in. I'm going to have to dig through boxes to find my set. Haven't read them in ages.

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1567 comments I should say: I have not read any of the books OR seen the movies. So feel free to talk about whatever you want about each but please use spoiler tags

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I was thinking about joining this but I don't know about the whole different editions thing, this is the book that i have Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling I bought the whole big box set which is this Harry Potter Adult Boxed Set (Harry Potter, #1-7) by J.K. Rowling would this count for this buddy read?

Anita Reads | 1677 comments As the first book I'll be reading a Danish translated version, since that's the one my sister have, but then the last 6 will be the English versions (not American).

Anita Reads | 1677 comments The fourth I have in that Adult boxed set. Which is probably the version I'll want them all in once I can afford the whole box.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I got the box set a couple of years ago for about i think $120 Australian dollars, I don't know how much it is now since i got it at a Christmas sale.

Anita Reads | 1677 comments I'll probably by them over amazon, as that's usually a lot cheaper for me. Since everything is a little expensive in Denmark.

Just checked amazon, and it's 74,50 £ for me. Will have to save up for a bit.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I kept putting of buying the box set for months because I wanted the adult hardcover set, I looked everywhere and nobody had them, they only had the paper back in the adult and they had both in the kids ones but i didn't want them because the adult ones just looked so much better so I ended up just getting the paperback set.

Anita Reads | 1677 comments It's the hardcover version I found on Amazon.Co.Uk so that's the one I'll be buying.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments Thanks cool, I never even thought to get it on Amazon back when I got mine.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments That box set look really cool Karen.

This is the one I own

I wanted the same covers just in hardcover but they don't come in the same box like the paperback here is what they look like

http://www.bookdepository.com/Harry-P...

I also what to get this box set but it is so expensive, it's $600 because it's a collector's edition

http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Pa...

Anita Reads | 1677 comments That was quite cool Stephanie.
It is cool to get that little chest like box to have books in.

Oh nice - I love the set you have!

My sister has this old one:
http://www.bookdepository.com/Harry-P...

Which is the way I always envision the covers looking now as I read her books as they were released. I agree that $600 set is beautiful

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments When I was looking around for the box set that I wanted the one that your sister has was another one I was looking at but I liked the adult ones, the covers just looked so cool.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (Harry Potter, #1) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Harry Potter, #2) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (Harry Potter, #3) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (Harry Potter, #4) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Harry Potter, #5) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Harry Potter, #6) by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows (Harry Potter, #7) by J.K. Rowling

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3813 comments Wooooah I love those covers!! I would really love to own those Stephanie.

These are the ones I have (and most of them were purchased at midnight they day the were released. ;) )

http://www.amazon.com/Harry-Potter-Ha...

Minus the box.

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I didn't get into reading the series till the 4th movie came out and even then I actually started with book 4 so i had a mix of different editions with all different covers, so i was really happy when i got the set but I haven't actually have read any of them yet.

I like how that box set looks like a trunk, I didn't see that set in stores.

Anita Reads | 1677 comments It's the same with me Stephanie, and I only own book 2, 3 and 4, and in different editions. My sister have them all (in a Danish translated version, but with the most traditional cover) and then my brother has 6 and 7 of the original UK versions.

message 82: by Kristie (new) - added it

Kristie | 3596 comments I almost bought the same set Karen has a while ago, but I had purchased all of the books individually. I had paperbacks of the first 5 and hardcovers of the last two, so not even a matching set. Unfortunately, I let people borrow some copies and didn't get them back, so I no longer have the whole set. I just purchased this boxed set because I love the way all the spines create one picture.

Chapters 1&2
I need to get a jump start on this, so I started the audio today (Stephen Fry) and I just finished the second chapter. Oh, I am loving the re-read. In my mind I remembered the first book being well suited to the age of the audience at the time (middle grade), and it's lovely to step back to that time before the books get a bit older and darker.
Small things I forgot about (view spoiler) and oh my goodness, what a spoilt brat that Dudley is!
Also with hindsight, having read all the books, (view spoiler)

Justin (rockstarintraining) Question for the Group:

Jim Dale or Stephen Fry?

I adore Stephen Fry, so I didn't even try and listen to Jim Dale (plus due to regional restrictions I can't buy the Jim Dale narration anyway!!)

❤Stephanie ღ♥ღMrs Daryl Dixonღ♥ღ | 2613 comments I haven't listen to any audio books of the series so I looked it up and had a listen to a little clip of them both reading and i have to say I liked Stephen Fry more.

here is were i listen to them if anyone else like me hasn't listen to them before

Can I just buy the box? I have all the hardcover books that I collected as they came out. Don't want to buy another set for the box, but it's so cool!

Rebecca (rebeccasg) | 3813 comments Jim Dale for sure!! Though Stephen Fry is also good.

Also I am dying for that HP boxed set with Hogwarts on the side!

I'm not sure you can do that, I could be wrong though but I've never seen just the box being sold before. Maybe if you look on ebay or something like that.

This has been set up as an "Informal" buddy read, but if you want to do Discussion Questions then just split the book into sections and ask for volunteers to write DQs for the days

Priscilla (priscillalayarda) | 12 comments I WANT TO REREAD THIS!! Its been so long since the last time I read it.

I'll join in on this as it has been years since I read the Harry Potter books. I'll see if I can get the audiobook to change it up a little this time.
