Why did Stewart use Victoria as a whore for his "friends" after one year of marriage?

After one year of marriage Stewart started whoring her out to his "friends". Why then? What profit did he gain? What illegal business went on in his spas?

I've been thinking about that after reading the book, too. It was never explained. Maybe Stewart wanted to please the Durante family and their affiliates so that they wouldn't be suspicious of the Albini family lying about Victoria. And prostitution was the Durante's illegal business. There were other things that had no answer. Like, how is Travis related to Stewart, and why Victoria wanted to kill Travis in the end. This is a good book though.
