Brian Gratton | 4 comments The book, or story, is set in New England, perhaps Maine, in the latter half of the 20th century. I read it in 2005. A boy of 18 or so is killed by a another boy in a dispute over a girl, and the killer is protected by his wealthy father's influence as I recall. In the end, the frustrated father, with a friend, takes the killer to a house outside town, murders and buries him. I seem to recall that the author had a French last name.

Remember the cover? Was it a standalone or part of a series? When you read it did it seem new or old?

Brian Gratton | 4 comments Standalone so far as I knew. A bit dated but cars were used... As they were taking the killer to the place where he would be killed they were stopped at a. At a bridge or something like that. I remember the killer was the son of an oyster or Fishing Company family.

Thanks for trying to help!

Did the father get caught for killing the other boy? What did the killer's family do that kept him protected (other than throw a ton of money at the problem)?

Brian Gratton | 4 comments The story ends with the burial of the boy and so I did not see the father get arrested. The rich families seem to have connections to the police again if I recall correctly.

Brian Gratton | 4 comments The answer to the author in question is Andre Dubus, whom I found only after tedious searches on the internet. He wrote "Killings" on which the movie "In the Bedroom" was based.
