Saying Hello
Hi Angela and Carole. It would be lovely to meet up with you both for coffee when we get the chance. I'm not far from Kingsbridge (favourite coffee shop is Coasters ;) ) but could do Totnes.Totally agree with Carole that Maria at the library is delightful and always has projects on the go.
Hope you have a wonderful trip, Angela (and a bit of space for yourself) - look forward to seeing you when you get back.

Hi Kathy,
Yes, it would be so good to have a 'bookie' meet-up in Kingsbridge. Maybe a few more will join in, although it sounds as if Ian is already thinking of a Kingsbridge 'Event'. Coasters is good, or the Harbour House Café ... although access can be an issue for some folk.
Take care, I hope work is going well.

Not being awkward at all - and to be clear - I am wondering about the 23rd for an event involving the library and bookshop - as I am in Barnstaple I shall leave it with you locals to arrange a small coffee catch up!

HELLO!! Didn't know where I should put this, so I'm putting it here. I was asked by Ian to introduce myself. My name's Rebecca and I'm a local author currently in Cornwall (but only just, I can see Plymouth out of my window right now!). I used to live in Exeter and am still very much connected to Devon. At the moment I write Historical books (late Victorian and WW1 era). The first of which (Diamonds Fall) is due out July 1st, the second November 11th (Rubies Fall).
All Quiet on the Western Front and Private Peaceful are possibly my favourite novels, Harry Potter is the book (or books) I have read the most, and the best book I read last year was probably The Night Circus. Wilfred Owen is my favourite writer by a long shot.
That's pretty much me. Nice to meet you :)

Hope all goes well with the releases. I have one out later in the year but currently writing three others (In varying stages).
I have numerous favourite authors, but my all time fav is Agatha Christie. I also love Iain Fleming, but read most other genres (including history and archaeology books of which I have about 200!)
Enjoy being part of the group, it's a lovely group to belong to.

Hi, Think I may just have posted in the wrong place, duh! Can't tell you how pleased I am to have come across this group. I'm an avid reader, a book club leader, and a mult-published author, going back to the 80's. I'm always looking for suggestions as to what to read for my book club, and I post discussion summaries/reviews afterwards on my website www.melmenzies.co.uk (hope it's ok to put that here Ian?)My own books - a new series - are located in Devon. Looking forward to getting to know you all. It says add book at the top. Does that mean I can add my last one? Time to Shine.

I tend to use Facebook more and, in addition to my timeline for person stuff, I have an author page https://www.facebook.com/AuthorMelMen.... Would love to see you there and would be especially pleased if you'd *Like* my page.
My earliest books were published back in the 1990's but I've now switched to fiction. Time to Shine - a gentle psychological mystery - is set in Exeter. Chosen - the next book in the Evie Adams series - is set in Exeter, Kingswear and Dartmouth. Due out 16th June. Time to Shine

I don't live in Kingsbridge itself, but the Library Reading Group saved my life when I first moved to the South Hams. It is a wonderful group of diverse members (tho' mainly female) and views - sometimes so much so that we wonder if we have read the same book. We read the Nemirovsky several years ago - before we started collecting notes on our chats - and I can only recall that we had quite varied views. However, our discussion was wonderfully, yet chillingly, dominated by one of our member's account of her family's forced exodus from their town (quite similar to the descriptions in the work). They lived near an oil port and 'Papa' assumed it would be targeted, and led them all away.
K'brdge Library is wonderful, and often has visiting writers / speakers, as Kathy will tell you - check out our 'Facebook' page. I think I know some folk who went to the Grammar School, so will ask them more when I next see them. Good luck with the new book!

Hi guys,Just joined, nice to meet you all.
I'm a bit of an interloper as I live in Bude. About a hundred yards from the border... but Barnstaple is really our local 'town', so I've sneaked in.
I work in magazine publishing so, obviously, to relax and kick back from all that reading and writing I... spend my spare time reading. And writing reviews. Tch.
Typically devour around a hundred books a year, the majority of them crime / noir / thrillers, but am also partial to some sci-fi, fantasy, spookynatural stuff and the odd foray into literary heights.
And now... must get back to work!

Hi Rowena,
I'm a newbie, too. Haven't been on here much in the last few days as I was rushed into hospital but, home now, here I am again. Interested to hear you're in magazine publishing. I'm an author - first published in the 80's and 90's - but have now switched to fiction. Last novel was reviewed in May edition of Devon Life - you may have seen it? Next one due out a fortnight today; interviews on Radio Devon and Tiverton local radio next week. Can get my publisher to send you a review copy if you like? But it's more a gentle phsychological mystery drama than any of the genre you like :(

Hi Rowena. Welcome. Look forward to hearing about your reading. And sorry to hear you're been poorly, Mel. Hope you're on the road to recovery now.
Hello thereI've just joined, and am still getting the hang of Goodreads. I live in Mid-Devon, between Tiverton, Crediton and South Molton. I'm a passionate reader (of course!) of a fairly wide range of books, literary fiction, biographies, popular science, gardening, poetry, travel, knitting books. I work as a freelance non-fiction editor/proofreader. Look forward to meeting you all.

Hi Jane. Welcome! I'm near Kingsbridge in the South Hams but there are lots of members closer to you. (Goodreads is an endless long learning curve I think!) Look forward to hearing more about your reading.

Hi Jane, and welcome. Like Kathy, I'm also near Kingsbridge in the South Hams. I don't post on here as often as I mean to. My excuse is that I'm not very technically minded and still get lost on 'GR' and 'DBC', but this site is an excellent way of hearing about all sorts of works. Your job sounds very interesting, as does your reading list - look forward to hearing about your favourite reads.
Crickey. There's already a mid Devon Jane in this group. Hello doppelgänger.I'm quite an old Jane and I read anything with writing on it. Plus I write books. Mostly fantasy but one rather creepy whodunnit.
I love Devon. I was born here and I'll die here.
Originally from the South Hams, which my paternal grandfather referred to as 'God's quarter acre.'
If anyone wants to be friends it'd be amusing - especially maybe my doppelgänger
Thanks for the welcomes! Look forward to getting to know you better and sharing some reading chatter.

Hi Ian and all! Glad I found your group! I've lived in the same village in Devon all my life and can't see me ever moving (I'm going to die in this village!)
I love reading but am a relatively slow reader and certainly wouldn't hit 50 books in a year like Ian. My main genres are Crime and Psychological, however I do read outside those. I belong to a small book group and the book choices have encouraged me to broaden my taste.
I used to work in the prison service but now write full time. My debut psychological thriller is being published in 11 days time! Eek!
I'll look forward to chatting with you all.

Hi Sam, sure I'll let you know. It can sometimes take a while for publishers to approve but I am presently in the 'sweet' area of over 80% feedback ratio so I'm quite attractive to them.
Thanks for checking out Books Chocolate & Wine - sometimes we are more wine than books but we try to publicise books, particularly new authors, whenever we can.

Hi Carole, I would love to meet up with more 'bookie' people. Maybe when I return in July Kathy, yourself and I could meet for coffee or something in either Kingsbridge or Totnes. I don't know which is easier for you and Kathy, I am close to Kingsbridge but can easily get to Totnes. Give me a shout nearer the time.
