No problem. We can still get points for the mini challenge. Also, I was wondering can we put the same book if it falls under two tasks in the mini-challenge? Like Rose and the Dagger can fall under both "Dagger in title" and "bladed weapon on cover". In this way we get 10 points for one book.

It would totally cool...but alas it’s not the way it goes... ;)

Annie K. Just want to make sure - main character with red hair hasn't been claimed yet, right? I think I can read City of Ashes for that one.

I put you down for red hair ;)

Tammie Some bad news...one of the other teams caught an error in our accounting of an animal on the last mini. The mods allowed a substitution but it cost us 6 points. I apologize for not catching it and will do better moving forward.

Ambi | 615 comments It’s ok Tammie. It’s an honest mistake. Wow people are really competitive in this challenge.

You could do "title contains all the letters of wrath" for the mini-challenge.

Since there's a lit jack-o-lantern on the cover, could you also get away with making an argument for a lit candle? Probably not, right?

I think wrath letters are taken...’no’ on candle
I’ll have a look in a bit
You could search a few of the phrases to see if they are in your book
You could always do Avarice (sin specification)

Is there a catastrophe?
...a theft?
Read a book where Death features, but is not necessarily a main character?
Read a book with MPG Crime, Mystery, Thriller or Suspense that also meets the criteria for "Amateur Sleuth"?

I'll have to read it first. If we don't find anything, we just won't include it. Right?

wow...that's tough. Would you say the parakeet was a character. I'm thinking 'no' it doesn't count.

It's seems to be a mystery...is there a person in the story trying to figure out the mystery??

Okay, so the protagonist isn't the witch. She just lives next to one and considering the title... lol

Annie K. Okay, so I was entering a book into the spreadsheet from my phone, and I’m not sure what happened, but all of the week 4 entries deleted. Could someone (on a computer) please go into past versions and just save the spreadsheet to the version before I edited? I can’t figure out how to do it on my phone, and I can’t get to a computer right now. So so sorry about this! Thanks so much!

Tammie OK...guru is I...I found a previous version and posted a new sheet labeled 'Week 4 (use this one)'.
Please don't use the messed up one...captains will use it to double check we aren't missing anything...Annie if anything, I'm guessing we might be missing an update from you.

Midu note the highlighted books...can you verify you made the corrections Nikk noted in red?

Annie same...I think yours was a conflict with page numbers and the version you recorded on your shelf.

Thanks much!

Tammie Week 5 Mini-LUST
description

Check out the point structure and let's discuss how we want to go about this mini!
LUST Mini Rules/Info

Note the bonus if we read 'Bad Books' via Part Two (we submitted these ideas the 1st week of the challenge)
Terrible Read Recs

message 486: by Tammie (last edited Nov 01, 2019 10:00AM) (new)

Tammie Midu

Could your book Patient Zero be used for 14. Read a book with MPG Crime, Mystery, Thriller or Suspense that also meets the criteria for "Noir"?
If so, we just need a description of why it fits this.

Could your book Something Wicked This Way Comes be used for 81. Read a book with MPG Crime, Mystery, Thriller or Suspense that also meets the criteria for "Setting - Isolated Locale" ? (It does not work for Green Cover-more points this way)
If so, we just need a description of why it fits this.

message 487: by megan (new)

megan | 1498 comments Lust strategy?
For the first half of the Lust mini challenge, lets just throw in some books we'd be willing to read that would meet criteria. Then, the story with the most book suggestions can be the one we go with?
This is just suggested books we can read, not flat out claimed. So we can list more books than we will actually be reading, just spread them out throughout the storylines.
Does that work?

Shall I list bad books that I can read?

message 492: by Tammie (last edited Nov 01, 2019 04:33PM) (new)

Tammie I’d say if there is a bad book on your tbr that you’ld like to read, go for it. I’d love for everyone to read what you’ld love this week but check this list and see.

Like other minis we’ve got 2 folders, 1 for our books and 1 for the mini

I’d suggest we try and write at least one story...I’m up for doing this unless someone would enjoy it. I think to start, if everyone can note at least one or two books that you will definitely read, we can see if there’s enough to make a good story. ***Story books are part of Part One, for this week only, bad books can be used for Part One and Part Two***

I hope this makes sense

**Re the Story...
If I’m reading this right we only get 2 points per book unless it’s one of the terrible books. There is a bonus of 14 pts I think for a complete story. But still...sin bingo and color covers (green especially) will yield us more points...let me know if you have a different take on the rules please...

**Bad Books are 5 pts...if they are used for both parts, they would be 7 pts.

I think you could ref the tag and if you can describe how the noir definition fits that would be good too...
noir
/nwär/
noun
a genre of crime film or fiction characterized by cynicism, fatalism, and moral ambiguity.
"his film proved that a Brit could do noir as darkly as any American"
a film or novel in the noir genre.
plural noun: noirs
"he says he's making a noir"

Moral ambiguity in the sense the protags had to kill the infected to protect the rest of the world. They didn't know if they were doing the right thing but it was their job.

Tammie Midu wrote: "I filled in the first story. These are all bad books that I'd want to read. What do you guys think?"

This is great, but I don't think you'll likely read 12 books next week...that's a happy thought. I've got one or 2...I'm thinking of a few twists that might intrigue the mods a bit...

Everyone else fill in what you can and we'll put something together maybe tomorrow...looking for more ideas and thoughts on approaching next week please!
