Week 8 - Mini Challenge
Gluttony Mini Challenge

For this mini-challenge, your team is going to try to read higher and higher numbers in series. In other words, you're going to build a ladder of books from series, starting with the lowest and going as high as you can get.

However, they need to be finished consecutively. #3 cannot be finished before #1, and #10 cannot be finished before #6. You may skip numbers on your way up, but you cannot read for a number that is lower than the one that has been read previously. The ladder only goes up, not down.

◈ Only books finished between 25th November and 2nd December will count for the Gluttony mini challenge (i.e. books finished in week 8).
◈ Books will either count towards the main part of the challenge (the Seven Deadly Sins) or towards this mini challenge.
◈ It needs to be clearly visible on GoodReads which # in the series the book is.
◈ For books that are part of a sub-series (e.g. Discworld titles) we will be using the information on the book's main page. e.g. The Wee Free Men is #30 in the Discworld series, not #1 in the Tiffany Aching sub series
◈ Only whole number entries allowed (no in-between .1s).
◈ Books need to be finished in order.
◈ One ladder per team.
◈ You will gain 5 points per book in the ladder.
◈ As each ladder gains 3 rungs you will receive a bonus 10 points.

This mini challenge is going to need some co-ordinating and commitment. If we can aim to make a 15-21 step ladder that would give us up to 70 extra points.

As each book needs to be finished after the previous one we need to know what you can read.

As for series, I could probably find something for every number (probably something under 200 pages, but still). There are always those Order Mail Brides series (50 books) we were thinking reading in Quidditch :P

I won't be able to finish any others this week since I have company and I'm making turkey dinner today.

Because the new mini challenge has to be completed in series number order, we need to know what series #s you can read. And we'll need you to NOT finish and post your book until the person before you does.

Please post now the series #s you know you will read - and don't finish any of them until Louise or I post a list of claimed #s. The #s will likely be first come first serve and for those who can claim 1-5, be sure you are able to read and finish those within the first couple of days so as not to hold up the rest. And it's okay to start a book anytime and wait to finish it after the book before you is posted.

Once we get a list started and we see there are gaps, then the more adventuresome of our group can go searching for specific missing #s.

I don’t really have anything on my TBR that fits for remaining numbers, but I’ll take suggestions if anyone knows of good series that have books that are standalone-ish (that I can pick up one later in the series that wouldn’t confuse me)!

I finally (after weeks of saying I was going to) started Outlander this weekend. That's going to be my main focus for the week. If I can, I'll try to pick up something in the ladder when needed...but I think Outlander will take up most of my time. I'll try to finish it this week since it's the last week for the Lust mini, but I'm not sure what I'll be able to do since it's the week of Thanksgiving here in the US. That should mean more free time to finish it....but it could also mean that we end up having more plans than usual since everyone is off work.

I'll keep you updated, though!

I don't know about you, but I don't follow check in or stalk the SS. I only follow this thread so if it is no bother, just post here when I am next? Thanks :)

I would be fine switching for #6, I have one downloaded. I do have #3 downloaded but have to wait for my Kindle to recharge which would put me starting it tomorrow and finishing late in the evening because it is a long book. I have to read it tomorrow anyway because it is due back to the library. Maybe go ahead and read for it and whichever finishes first can fill the task?
