Such a good book!! :-D
It was my first Pratchett as well.
Have you ever seen the movie?"
For some reason I have never read any of the Discworld books...hhmm..not sure why!

Oh no! :-(
Hopefully this one's better!
And I'm actually now seconding what Jenny said haha.
Fingers crossed!!

It's worth checking them out, though I would not read them in order. The first 2-3 are not that good.
I read The Colour of Magic/The Light Fantastic when I was 18 and was not particularly smitten by them. And then 20 years later Hogfather came into my hands and I JUST LOVED it.
Still, though Terry Pratchett became one of my favourite authors, his books are definitely acquired taste, methinks.
I love the City Watch books, the witches & Death in the discworld series, but the ones about the wizzards are more of a hit or miss with me.

From your quote, just to make sure - they are really doing long-distance attacks and not just shooting arrows from fairly close-by? I'm assuming so or you wouldn't have mentioned it, but wanted to make sure :-) Thanks!

Melindam wrote: "I checked The Chestnut Man here on GR, but I have quite a strong aversion to these bleak Scandinavian crime stories (I read a few), so I don't think I'll give this a try either."
Some of them aren't quite so bleak but they do tend to convey that kind of feeling. I like them for that because they're different from the more general crime novels.

The brothers were attacking herdsmen and only started shooting once the herdsmen stood up. I assumed it was from a distance but not that far.
Here's another quote of when there is a battle and Temujin and his army lie in wait and then fire at the approaching enemy:
"The first riders saw the barrier in their path...the arrows punched through the riders." Page 280
Sorry, there aren't any quotes with distances. I can look for an alternative task when I'm home.
Jammin Jenny wrote: "I read a small non-fiction book but didn't post here or on my TT shelf. If we need it to make quota this week, let me know and I'll post it."
Ok thanks! We'll keep that in mind just in case.

I think the approaching army should work. Those are usually distance shots with arrows. I'll use that one. Thanks!

Understandable, Rachel. Reading time is in short supply for me lately as well.
Take care and I'm sure we'll see you around the group at some point.
And thanks for letting us know :-)

Currently, we have 17 read books, which isn't all that much yet.
Let's see where we are by Sunday with the larger books and when we know where everyone is at, and then we can see.
Honestly though, the way the reading is going this week, I'm thinking that most likely yours and Jenny's shorter books might be needed. (And if it's only one of those, we'll take the one with most pages, ok?)

I'm going to attempt to put a fat dent into Tower of Dawn today - bank holiday, yay! - because I really want to finish that this week. Depending on how it goes, I'll also try and finish Station Eleven but I'm honestly not sure if I can manage both. It's been a shitty week for finding time to read and I've got a NaNoWriMo meet to run tomorrow for 4 hours, and I'm meeting friends on Sunday, which is going to turn into a loooong chat session ;-)
