We do need to double-check that Children's books fit the word count. So I downloaded the book, converted it to Word, removing ToC and other misc areas, and it came out to 47,490 words. So you're good.

Sorry, not sure if it would meet 50% either.

I believe there are 100 on the 1st page. So when you click on "See Top Shelves" on the main book page, it has to be on that 1st page. If it happens to be towards the bottom of the 3rd column, it's best to screenshot to show that when you looked it was actually on the 1st page. The genres change all the time so you never know if it will stay on the 1st page.

Stephanie | 286 comments Ok three options for brown which ones will work?
1. Murder Past Due (Cat in the Stacks, #1) by Miranda James
2. The Ghost and Mrs. McClure (Haunted Bookshop Mystery, #1) by Alice Kimberly
3. Silent in the Grave (Lady Julia Grey, #1) by Deanna Raybourn

#1 doesn't look brown at all to me.
#2 is a little iffy but would probably say no, don't think it would be 50%.
#3 would say yes to brown.

Hey Namita, unfortunately you can't use The Blood Gospel for TT7 since you started it before the game started (you marked the start date as September 20th). Can you please remove from your TT shelf?

It is a Yes for purple!

And I kept thinking about Manic Pixie Dream Boy (The Underdogs, #1) by K.A. Merikan so asked in captain's threads and they said no to that one.

Just starting The Wallflower Wager.
I hope to get at least one thing done by Wed.

It should be same time each week, at least until Daylight Savings.

Ash | 206 comments Finished reading The Fifth Child! I couldn't figure out how to change it to Read on the spreadsheet, so I thought I'd just let y'all know here~ Is there a particular format I should be using to post my completed books?

message 216: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments @Ash just post the book you've read, date, page count, what sin you've read for and how it fits that sin.

Otherwise, on the spreadsheet, there's a box that says 'read' so if you just put the date you finish in that box, Cathy or myself will be able to pick it up from there :)

I couldn't find The Fifth Child being tagged as 'guilty-pleasure' so I've put this down as being tagged as 'contemporary' which is the same amount of points.

message 218: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments Wow, we have our first 2 books on the spreadsheet!

message 219: by Ash (last edited Oct 08, 2019 05:57AM) (new)

Ash | 206 comments Oh oops, I think I might've misunderstood the description; When it said guilty pleasure, I didn't know it was referring to a shelf, I thought it was under criteria. So I thought it meant books that were personally your guilty pleasure, which for me is killer kids haha. That's a trope I never get tired of, no matter how well it's done. Sorry about that! Thanks for specifying~

message 220: by Ash (last edited Oct 08, 2019 05:55AM) (new)

Ash | 206 comments Book: The Fifth Child by Doris Lessing
Date Read: October 7th
Page Count: 133
Sin: Pride - Contemporary

message 221: by Jill (new)

Jill | 938 comments Oh yeah, is there a separate thread to post completed books? Or do we just post on here?

message 222: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments Just here, or the spreadsheet Jill :)

message 223: by Jill (new)

Jill | 938 comments Ok, great. I'm 44% into An Anonymous Girl. I hope to finish it today and get started on Ugly Love right after. I'm signed up for 3 books, but pushing to read more :)

message 224: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments I love how quick paced thrillers are, and I think I enjoyed An Anonymous Girl. Definitely liked it more than The Wife Between Us.

You don't wanna read too much more than your initial sign-up because if we fall ahead or below our target, we get punished!

message 225: by Jill (new)

Jill | 938 comments Oh really? How much can we overread by?

message 226: by [deleted user] (new)

Jill wrote: "Oh really? How much can we overread by?"

Our team average per week at signup was 38, so to keep from being penalized, we have to stay between 31 and 45 books per week as a team.

message 227: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments According to the spreadsheet, you put down 10 books per month, which is equivalent to 2.5 books per week. Ideally, we need to stay between 80% - 120% of the whole team's reading targets. If we do that, we get 50 bonus points.

I don't think we've got it on the thread anywhere, but here's what's listed in the rules.

Each week we'll do a team analysis of books read vs books signed up
Teams that stay in the 80% - 120% reading range get an additional 50 points
Teams that fall below the 80% mark get a penalty of -20 points
Teams that go over the 120% cap but stay under the 250% get a penalty of -100 points
Teams that go over the 250% mark get a penalty of -200 points

So for you personally, I would say you could read between 8 and 12 books a per month or 2 to 3 books a week.

message 228: by Jill (new)

Jill | 938 comments Ok I'll read 3 books.

However, if someone is falling behind on their reading, and I read extra, wouldn't that balance out the team total?

message 229: by Ashleigh (new)

Ashleigh | 735 comments It would I suppose. It's gonna be a hard thing to monitor but there's a page on the spreadsheet which shows the goals of each member on the team and their read percentage, so that'll help us out.

message 231: by Jill (new)

Jill | 938 comments Darn I wish I signed up for more. I guess I can always read more for YABRC and just not post the books here..

message 232: by maria helena (new)

maria helena (mariahel) | 1924 comments Jill, I will definitely only finish one book out of my two the first week so you can read an extra if you want :-)

Namita (-namita) | 699 comments Cathy/Ashleigh, does my first book not qualify for any criteria? Should I remove it? I am reading my second book already. We can swap it out.

The Blood Gospel (The Order of the Sanguines, #1) by James Rollins is the book in question. I had originally listed it in Avarice Sin Specifications but I wouldn’t get us any points.

I changed the criteria to Top Shelf since it is 3 more points but you listed your Start Date as 9/20/19 & Read Date as 10/05/19 so the book does not count.

Books started/read before TT started (10/7 at 7am AEST) cannot be used.

Can you please remove from your TT shelf?

message 237: by Cathy M. (last edited Oct 08, 2019 11:55AM) (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Jill - I'd say 3-4 books/week for you should be fine. But if you are able to go over that, just post here and we can see where everyone is at. I can put aside some of my smaller books and go back to my longer ones.

That pretty much goes for everyone - as long as we let the other members of our team know that we're not able to read as much, or can get more reading than normal done, we can always make adjustments. Some of us are more flexible than others so just gotta make the time to communicate.

Thank you!

You also started Archangel's War already right? It looks like you marked as Currently Reading on Sep 24? If so, I'll remove from our Planning Sheet since we won't be able to use it either.

Reticence was started after the game began so that one is good.

message 242: by Namita (new)

Namita (-namita) | 699 comments No, I haven’t started it. I have this habit of adding books to currently reading but not it. I’ve cleaned it up now.
Archangel’s War has been removed. I’ll start it after my book 2!

message 243: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments Yea, usually it's not a big deal. But in a game where start dates matter, it does. And believe me, people will check!

I still need to read Archangel's Prophecy but am hoping to get to that and Archangel's War soon!!

message 246: by Cathy M. (new)

Cathy M. (mccathy77) | 5976 comments It was ruled as Yes to red!
