SOLVED. SciFi Book Series with feline Aliens and female lead. [s]

Ok I am looking for a 3 book Scifi series that I read as a kid from my mom's collection, unfortunately she donated her library years ago and cannot remember the title or author either and it is driving us both insane.

The First book you are introduced to the main female lead who takes command of her first ship. While investigating a distress call they are attacked and rescued by a alien vessel belonging to a Feline Race.

The Second book describe a collaboration to build a joint spaceship on earth

The Third book has our lead transforming into one of the aliens due to contact with in the first book and she has to travel to their home world to rediscover herself.

I believe these books are from the 80's early 90's and have been looking on the internet for days but cannot find any leads.

This isn't exactly how you described the book series you were looking for, but it popped into my head right away. It seems more fantasy than sci-fi, but the humans in the story were originally space travelers who came to this more fantasy like world.

Anne McCaffrey has a sci-fi trilogy with feline aliens, Decision at Doona is the first in the trilogy.
