R19: Team #13 ~ Triksideskaphobia

I enjoyed this one more than I thought I might. The prologue starts the book off on a strong footing. It stumbled a bit for me once we fast forward to present time, but once we're introduced to all the characters and Nova starts her undercover mission with the Renegades, the pace really picked up. I found myself quickly drawn in and wanted to find out what would happen next. I will definitely be reading the next one!

This was a reread. Still awesome! A touch of mystery, murder, monsters, magic. :-D
I love Celaena. Can't wait to read the next book. She can handle anything the king throws at her.

Sunshine, is your free space book a re-read? Just checking because re-reads are limited to one book per Bingo round.

Oops. I rarely do rereads so I didn't even think of that.
I will switch my FS book to

Shelf #5 ~ Fantasy Romance

Book: Angelfall by Susan Ee 10/21/19
Rating: 3 Stars
Review:
The concept of angels being bad isn't new to me, though these angels are the actual Biblical Angels. It jumps in where the angels have already attacked mankind and established themselves as top of the food chain. There is a bit of a horror aspect with children being turned into some kind of demon-like thing and the scorpion-angel hybrid things. I wouldn't call this book "Romance" but it is hinted at and will probably be more prominent in the next books. It was a quick enough read and kept me interested so I'll continue on.

I liked this installment and the mystery involving attacks on shapeshifters. Sookie is an enjoyable character and trouble always seems to find her. It seems she has a revolving door of romantic interests as well. I plan to continue with the series and look forward to more of Sookie's antics.

I have been looking forward to this book since I first started my reread of the series because I knew this was the one where (view spoiler) . This was just as good the second time around. The pace is on point, never feeling like anything's dragging and with plenty of action. Tybalt is very present in this one, which is always a good thing. I was left feeling very happy and ready to read the next one!["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>["br"]>

Free Space

Book: Blood Rights by Kristen Painter 10/26/19
Rating: 3 Stars
Review:
Chrysebelle is a comarré, someone specially bread to feed the royal and upperclass vampires. In return she gets to lead a pampered and prolonged life. The story starts with her fleeing when her patron is murdered and its set up to look like she did it. Chrysebelle ends up unintentionally in servitude to Malkolm, an outcast anathema vampire. He is twice cursed. Anyone he drinks from, he will kill and then be haunted by their spirits. Her blood literally frees Mal from his inner demons.
I like Chrysebelle. She's smart, thinks, and has kick-ass fighting skills. Malkolm is forced to live a life on the fringes. He is constantly fighting the voices in his head. We've just touched the surface with him. I think, once these two connect like proper patron/comarré and as lovers, they are going to be an unstoppable force.

This series has an intriguing premise of traveling between dimensions and this book was a decent start. The storyline was confusing at times but it all came together in the end. I wish the author had included more background on how the firebird works. Marguerite, Theo and Paul are engaging characters and I am interested to find out what happens in the next book.

This was a good follow-up to the first book. When I think back on it, I realize that not a whole lot actually happens in this one, but I didn't really notice because I was entertained the whole time. I still like all of the characters, and with the way it ended, I'm very curious to see how it's all going to fall out! Definitely reading the conclusion to the series!!

Shelf #6 ~ Alternate Reality

Book: Crown of Midnight by Sarah J. Maas 11/2/19
Rating: 4 Stars
Review:
After winning the competition last book, Celaena is now the King's Champion. He has tasked her with finding and killing the people on his list of traders/rebels. Only she's not entirely sure they are the bad guys. She secretly does her own investigation into the rebels and it results in her loosing people important to her. (In more ways than one!)
This book definitely amps up the fantasy and magic and there's a huge twist at the end. I love where it's going. Looking forward to Celaena causing heaps of trouble!

Enchanted Village is a charming place and the characters are fun. The mystery involved the death of Aunt Ve's ex-husband after Darcy discovers his skeleton in her garage. I was surprised at the culprit in the end and there are secrets revealed along the way as well. I also like how Darcy and Nick's relationship is progressing. I will continue with the series and hope it keeps going for many more books.

This was a perfect follow-up to book one. It had plenty of action again, as well as a good amount of romance. I still love all of the characters, and I ended the book with a huge smile on my face. I will say I wasn't hugely surprised at who the traitor was, but honestly, it didn't negatively affect my enjoyment of the book at all. I'm very much looking forward to the next one!

I am about 70% through my magic book.

Shelf #7 ~ Magic

Book: Her Dark Legion by Pippa DaCosta 11/7/19

Review:
The time has come to put the Polestar back together, to end the Hunt, to make Faerie whole again. This means the end of characters we love and loved to hate.
This was such an awesome mix of Fae and Human, magic and tech, guns and swords (and whips!). I haven't really read anything like this. It's what I like to read but it's different. I dreaded reading this finale. Reading other reviews, the author is known for not-HEA's. I loved Kesh and her men. These characters were all so flawed and so many times trust is questioned. It was a hard journey and many times I was just "I need a light happy book."
So I'm going to read me one (or many) of those and then jump into Pippa's Veil series. :-)

Ugh! What a punch to the heart! I mean, we knew it was coming, and I even knew how/why it was going to happen, but it still breaks my heart. As Rylee said herself, she is up shit's creek with no paddles and surrounded by crocodiles. This book is nonstop. It's one battle after another trying to hold Orion at bay and keep her family safe. I don't know how I'm going to get through the next 2 books!

I really enjoyed this one. It had very good pacing and kept me wanting to know what would happen next. I continue to love the characters, and the evolution of Claire as a character is fun to watch. For once, things actually felt fairly wrapped up at the end of this one, so I'm curious to see where it goes from here.

I enjoyed this installment of the Phoenix Pack series. The story itself did feel similar to the first book of the series, but it didn't really bother me because I liked the characters. Jaime and Dante were engaging characters and I enjoyed the evolution of their relationship after she had crushed on him for years. Looking forward to Nick and Sayah's story in the next book after the set up for that in this book.
