What Should We Read in 2015?!
PS We could do this as a closed Facebook group, as Brandi suggested. I am part of an author's "beta group" this way, and it works really well.

Since I already announced Unbroken for December and #Girlboss for January, some of us started those titles. I'm open to shaking up the Bookshelf after February. I'd like to keep the next three titles stationary to give everyone a chance to get the book/plan ahead.
For those that may be new, we've taken requests over the past couple months for 2015 and I've tentatively put an outline for the year together on the To Read shelf. Here's how it looks so far:

I'm open to a Facebook group, my concern is that I get lots of e-mails and messages asking how to join the group so I'm a little nervous about expanding to a third platform for simplicity's sake. I want folks to know how to engage with us. :)
Love the idea of looking up bio info and reviews, etc and sketching out the next few months!
I will read whatever is chosen and decided on--no problems with that. :-)But are these books all set in stone? I am a little confused. I think you said that you put books in place because Goodreads requires it? Does this mean that after Bossgirl we are open to suggestions?
I didn't realize that Unbroken is the current book. Now I understand that this would be what people are reading now, getting ready to talk about in January. OK, sounds good. I don't know if I will get to it, though, so I may start with Bossgirl.

I just added All The Light We Cannot See today. I've yet to find a historical fiction book that lights me up, but I'm in to give 2014's winner a go after seeing this is a hot one on a lot of lists and requests.
Sounds good.Also, All the Light We Cannot See keeps coming up on best books of the year lists, as you say, and I have heard from people who have read it that it is wonderful. It is definitely on my list of books to read.
You don't care for historical fiction? It is one of my favorite genres, from childhood on. What are your favorite genres?
Has anyone read The Book Thief? That's historical fiction, and I loved it so much that I read it again. I haven't seen the movie, but it is on my list.
I havent read The Book Thief yet, but it is in my list of want to read books for 2015. Heard wonderful things about it.
Havent watched the movie cause I wanted to read the book first.
I first read it in a class I was taking on new literature for middle school students. I later listened to it on audio for one of my book groups. Since the book has drawings in it, you will want to look at the book even if you decide to listen to it on audio (which is also fantastic). It's an amazing book. Interestingly, in Europe it was released as an adult novel, while in the US it came out as a young adult novel. Go figure.
Wow! I had no idea it was released as for young adults in the US. I live on Argentina and here it was released as adult fiction (though I read more in English than in Spanish, always have...). I will read the book, maybe the ebook.
I dont seem to ge used to audio books so far...

There was a request for The Book Thief a few months back as well, and with two more I will put it in the line up.
I read I Am The Messenger this year and I wasn't super impressed, but I'll give this author another shot, especially so I can see the movie!
It is interesting the marketing that goes into book releases.

My favorite genre is non-fiction. I spent the majority of my time this year in fiction to expand my horizons since story is such a passion of mine.
This year I read The Painted Girls and The Light Between Oceans (both award winners) and I struggled through both.
Am I a lost cause?!

I'm with you, I can't get into audio books either. In this house, we do real books! ;)
I listen to audio books when driving--it gets more reading in! Always a plus. :-)
I love nonfiction, but it takes me longer to read than fiction, so I read mostly fiction with some nonfiction thrown in (though I love memoirs and bios and do read more of them). So, we are opposites, lol.
Do not rate The Book Thief by The Messenger. The latter is an earlier book. I haven't read it, but I have a friend who likes The Book Thief very much and didn't think much of The Messener. He is a discerning reader, and I always enjoy talking books with him.
Lisamarie, what kinds of nonfiction do you like most?

Oh I see, we are opposites. I'm looking forward to diving back into the non-fiction in 2015, while still maintaining a balance of fiction and classics.
The Christian inspirational tomes are my very fav! Cold Tangerines and 1,000 Gifts are the reigning queens.
My favorite author is Shauna Niequist and I'm so excited for her new books coming out this year, Perfect Over Present and a new devotional.

Hi everyone! I just joined the group and Im very excited to start the January book! I was just wondering thoughts on Nooks/ Kindles or if I should spring for the physical book? I live 45 minutes away from a book store, so the nook is so convenient! But someday I would love a beautiful library like Lisamarie's :) Just wondering if anyone else is on the fence or if its just me :)
Welcome to the book club!! I'm not a fan of the kindle/nook but it's the same format for most books so can definitely be used!! I'm new to my area so I haven't found good book stores yet but amazon is my go to for books!! I put them in my wishlist as I see ones I want and periodically order one! So that's an option for you if you don't have a store nearby! Oh and we ALL want a library like Lisamarie's!! It's GORGEOUS!! :)

Do you know about her newest book, a collection of essays? And do you read her blog? I follow it on Facebook and love her postings--about faith, which is what made me think of her when you mentioned your faves.

I already put Inferno on the "Quarterly Classic" list for December 2015, so we need more readers to weigh in, if you're so inclined to read classics. ;)

I am SO excited about the booklist for 2015. Most of them were books I'd already identified as ones I wanted to read! I'm into the second chapter of Unbroken and want to participate in the discussion but don't want to look through the posts yet for fear of spoilers! :-)

Awesome, Big Little Lies is on the schedule for August! We're also reading The Husband's Secret in March. I read What Alice Forget This year and it was one of my faves in 2014. I've heard all her titles are worth a read.

Lisamarie you just made my day by revealing you are only 100 pages into Unbroken!! I'm also only that far in and felt terrible that I'm so behind! I've just been too busy or exhausted to read but getting into it tonight once the boys go to bed!! :)

I loved Paper Towns and The Book Thief! I love the books chosen for the next 6 months! I've read a few of them! They were so good! I would definitely read them again!

I love the idea of a Facebook group!!! I think it would be much easier than this forum!
We could do that through Google Groups too! Although I'm not sure how it works if you don't have a Google+ Account.
Okay, so I noticed that the books on the list have changed...are we not reading The Husbands Secret or All the Light We Cannot See or Paper Towns anymore? I was reading through the feed and saw that anything past Feb wasn't set in stone, but didn't realize there was a change in the list since I usually get on here on my phone and not laptop. I really wish the app was better. I totally agree with having a different online outlet...maybe Facebook or something.
I noticed that too and Im confused now.I went on the actual website but still confused.
maybe you can just make a post that says the books and months we will be reading them

Wow, you two are very engaged, thank you for that! I didn't realize it would cause confusion if I played around a bit so early in the year, sorry about that. You got it, anything past Feb is not set in stone (yet) and I just made another change (hopefully the last)! I've spent the week wrestling with which titles to choose for a final run down. Alas, so many amazing books so few months in the year! I will absolutely be posting the final list and creating a video in the coming weeks, and then I'll leave the bookshelf untouched.
The main struggle I faced is my love for book to movie adaptations (there are 12 killers ones in 2015, one for each month just like 2014) and the fun we'd have reading through the books and seeing the films; versus my commitment to the genre I've playfully dubbed "glam lit." Glam lit is books written by women who inspire us like DVF, Grace Coddington, Shauna Niequist, our #Girlboss, etc.
I made two separate lists and plan to read both, but didn't want to overwhelm the group with two titles a month plus our Quarterly Classics.
Ultimately, I decided the Paper & Glam Book Club will focus on Glam Lit since we're a community of women, and I'd love for us to support female authors who've inspired so many of us. This is not to say books written by men are off the table, we are still reading Paper Towns in June & Inferno in December.
I plan to start a string for the book to movie adaptations, and there is a post ready to roll for Monday. There will also be a video....after Amazon delivers my books :)
Does that approach make sense?
I enjoy book to movie adaptations as well so I look forward to that thread! I just finished reading If I Stay and Divergent so I'm excited to watch those movies.

I think this is a great plan!! I also plan to do the book movie list though I will reserve those for the end of the month as I want to make sure to read the paper & glam one first!!! Oh and I just have sticky notes for the book club books in my planner! No permanent ink till the month of just in case ;)
That's a great idea! I'll do the same! I am halfway done with Girlboss already (I'm a teacher and have been on break so I kind of have nothing to do with my time right now)!

Since Girlboss is on the list, what about reading that in January and then reading Unbroken in February?
I am happy to help with moderating. Perhaps we could do something that I do in one of my face-to-face bookgroups: we have co-leaders for each book, and one person looks up author biography and the other looks up reviews and then shares this info at the meeting. The co-leaders also come up with discussion questions beforehand and email them. Could we adapt this for our virtual book group?
We could sketch out a calendar for the next few months, perhaps. Like this:
