Bro Zachariah in The Infernal Devices and TMI

Blair Question: I read the mortal instruments before I read the infernal devices. I was thrilled that reading the infernal devices connected the dots with so many things in TMI but there is one thing I am missing or perhaps I don't remember correctly. If Bro Zachariah is Jem in the infernal devices, then I assume thats the same Bro Zachariah from TMI. Right? The one that Jace accidentally helps by burning the wicked or whatever out of him when he touches him and releases the heavenly fire. And because of that Bro Zachariah doesn't have to be a silent bro anymore and then at the end of the TMI series he can be with Tessa because now he doesn't have to be a silent bro anymore. Is that the same guy? Because if it is, then why at the end of the infernal devices is he NOT a silent bro anymore? It made sense when the book ended with him being one but then the prologue messed me all up. I know there is a book 3.1 about what happened after they meet on the bridge so I was wondering if something in there happens where he has to go back to being a silent bro. But frankly I hesitate to read it because I actually didn't like Jem and Tessa ending up together (my loyalty will always be to Will and Will alone) and I don't want to read it. Anyone know the answer?

Emily Yes, she ends up with Jem. But will has been dead a long time by this point. You can't expect her to be single forever. I think it was great. She got two great loves in her life

Yeah I completely understand that. It's not that I wanted her to be single forever. I just don't like Jem and me not liking Jem is just a personal thing and I get that people wont agree. Either way, do you know the answer to my question?

Emily Jem is brother Zachariah

Blair yes I know. that isnt quite my question. my question more has to do with him NOT being a silent bro at the end of the infernal devices and being a silent bro at the beginning of the mortal instruments and what happened in between that made him go back into the brotherhood.

Emily Sorry I misunderstood. It's been awhile since I have read it. But Jace did something to him. (Like burn it out with with holy fire? Maybe).

KritikaB I read Mortal Instruments then, Infernal Devices too. Mortal Instrument happenned years after the Infernal Devices. At the end of Infernal Devices, Jem became a Silent Bro. Then, he helped Jace, was burnt by heavenly fire and turn back to normal person. He did tell Jace that he had take care of something. I think that was when he went to see Tessa on their annual meeting (In the Epilogue of Infernal Devices).

Blair oh! so mortal instruments was in between infernal devices and the epilogue. got it! omg thank you so much for clearing that up for me!

Totally agree since they both are immortal.

Emily Jem is not immortal anymore :(. When he stopped being a silent brother he lost his immortality

I was going to explain it, but as I was reading through the comments, I saw this one, and decided to just say...yep. That's how it happened.

Blair I almost want to read TMI again and see what I can pick up now that I know what I know from TID

Chloe I found the best order to read it and get the whole story was to read the first three TMI then ID then the last three of TMI....

KritikaB Blair wrote: "I almost want to read TMI again and see what I can pick up now that I know what I know from TID"

That was actually what I did. I reread some scenes from TMI that have Bro Zachariah and some scenes that I didn't quite get it before, like the ghost at London Institute.

Thats a good idea because Idk if I want to read all six books again! Maybe I should just pick parts to re-read. But I really want to read TID again because I miss Will :(

KritikaB Yeah, six books are a bit too many to reread. I probably will read TID again too at some point cuz, I love it so much. But, just have to wait a bit....to many books to read : P

I wanted to read TID again like 2 days after I read it because I missed Will so much...it really was a sad day around the world when I finished that series.

KritikaB Totally understand. It is one of those books that I didn't want to see 'THE END'. I didn't want to read other books because I didn't want to be disappointed. So, I did go back a reread some scenes. lol
