Bionic Jean (bionicjean) I like your "note to self" - very wise :) And I love the idea of a maximum rather than a minimum! How intriguing! I didn't set myself a challenge "number of books" (as Goodreads likes you to) until quite late on in the year - and now regret having done so at all!

Please may I join you with the Moomins books? I'd love to have an excuse to reread those :D

Bionic Jean (bionicjean) Just let me know when :)

Evelyn | 1410 comments I agree with Jean, love your note to self! So easy to get carried away otherwise.

dely | 5214 comments I like above all the "books in translation" challenge. It helps to broaden our literary horizons. I wanted to add something similar to my challenge but the opposite: I want to read at least 10 books in the original language.
Good luck, Sandy ;)

Chrissie Sandy, good luck with Lawrence Durrell. I completed Justine, tried Balthazar but gave up. To make it more difficult the narrator of the audiobook was not to my liking. Gosh he writes differently from his brother. another proof that siblings can be very different.

I liked Old Filth best of the series. I don't feel pushed to continue beyond the second book though, but I do want to read more by Gardam. Hope you like her. I think she is very good author but I never get around to picking another.

I love Tove Jansson! For adults and kids.

message 6: by Pink (new)

Pink I need to remember your 'note to self' this is one of my biggest problems, trying to tackle too much at once. I'll be trying to read a larger book next year as well, though perhaps War and Peace for me. Good luck :)

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

I like the maximum idea as well. I physically don't have time to read as much as I want to but I have many more years of reading ahead!

message 8: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Experiments are good. I am going to try a mystery series now which is a huge experiment for me....

Yeah. I have to keep reminding myself. This year, I got way too stressed over all the challenges I was ..."

I did it this year: I reduced fom my over 200 books a year to barely 200. MOre time to family, travel, kids, work - finally I got to a working place I like being into! And less stress to challenges... even if I can do better

Leslie | 16369 comments I might join you for some of the Forsyte Saga -- I read the first book a while ago and have been meaning to get to the rest of the saga ever since!

I would love to read The Forsyte Saga as well Sandy! Maybe a readalong?

Last year, I read a short story by John Galsworthy about a shoe repair man that was so, so lovely. It was about a simple man and the passing of an era - made me weep outright. Ever since then, I've been wanting to read The Forsyte Saga, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.

Read it all a couple of years ago in another group. I strongly recomand it, even if you have to like that type of novels - highly victorian

Angela M Sandy ,
Good luck with your challenge . I'm not disciplined enough to make this kind of a list. Well , I can make the list but would probably not stick to it . I may do what Evelyn has done with her "you bought em , now read em " challenge , so I can get through the over 50 books I have on my kindle.
Kudos you !

Overbooked ✎ (kiwi_fruit) | 473 comments Well done Sandi, just one left for the blackout eh?

One of my absolute favourites is The Velveteen Rabbit, it's not on your read list and it's a Christmas children classic. It's such a sweet and heartwarming tale, short too ;-)

The Project Gutemberg link is here

I don't know if the Gutemberg or Librivox audio is any good, but there are also some Youtube versions, like this one

Hope it helps :)

Leslie | 16369 comments Sandy, I like your year-end summary! And I had a little chuckle about your Read-across-Canada challenge as my Read-the-USA challenge is still undone & I started in 2012! But fingers crossed for for both of us finishing in 2016 :-)

And I am very pleased that the BINGO challenge was a good experience for you. Thanks for letting us know!
