Jess Myname | 60 comments I just finished the book "My family for the war". It takes place during WWII follows a little girl for 7 years as she bounces around from place to place during the war. At one point she is in London and I was intrigued by the rationing, clothing coupon books, victory gardening, country side evacuations of children, Large homes being volunteered for war work etc.

I would like to read a fiction book(s) about the day to day life of people living in the UK during this time. I am hoping for a story not a history lecture as I have a hard time reading those. I know I might have to read multiple books to quiet my curiosity as there is a broad range of ground brought up in the book I just finished that I would like to learn more about.
I know that each part of the UK had different war time experiences. I would like to learn aoubht both what happened in London(city life) and in the country. I am not intereset in the actual War part of the history just how the people where effected by the war, how they lived what changes they had to make. What they did to make it thought the war.

Thank you for any ideas you might have.
Oh the last note I am open to books for any age. I usually read books for kids and teens mostly... actually I have never actually read an book for "adults" all the way through I don't think I have ever made it past the 3rd chapter.

Abigail (handmaiden) | 199 comments The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society is set just after WWII, but tells a good deal about the characters' lives during the war.

Charmaine (wistad) | 23 comments I second The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I LOVED that story! I wish there was a sequel. I had never heard of the German occupation of the Channel Islands until I read that book. The character develop is excellent and the historical content is very well done and interesting.
