So I read this short story in school a few years ago(2016) and I cannot for the life of me figure out what it is. So it’s based in like Victorian era time and there is a girl and her mother who are sitting at their window and a man comes to visit and he keeps bugging them so the mother and daughter tell the man that the husband and son of the family died several years ago. A little while later the husband and son come walking towards the home and those in the house see them through the window and the visitor freaks out, thinks they are ghosts, and runs away. The husband and brother are not actually dead, they just lied to scare the man away. What is this story called?!!!

I agree; definitely The Open Window by Saki (only the girl makes up the story; her mother isn't involved).
