In my book smoke Pattyn has recently moved to the the ranch in Southern California to work. She recently has been meeting and discovering new people and friends and starting a new era of her life. She has recently changed her name to somthing a little more common. She keeps on touch with her sister who lives in eastern Nevada by writting her letters and helping her understand that her new life has just been started. The past is behind her at this point and she is recovering from the dark times of the past
