(sorry this is all very vague)

People in the office are giving him a lot of favours to help him out but their patience is running thin. Seem to specifically remember emails from a female (perhaps colleague?) but could be wrong.

Male protagonist goes to meet strange men in a dodgy location and is blackmailed somewhat.

There's a drug deal at some point with a lot of money involved, one character wants to take the money but the other thinks there's something dodgy about the deal, which in the end there is.

I think there's a woman meeting a man who is just out of prison.

It was set in America I'm sure. Read this a year or two ago, and I definitely don't think it's that old a book. It was like a thriller - scary, intriguing, investigative. SO GOOD aside from the fact I can remember barely anything about it! Thanks so much for your help.
