Below is a list of books beloved by Chomu Press authors, and in many cases considered hugely influential in their writing. These are all culled from interviews, reviews, facebook discussions, goodreads profiles, forum posts, blog posts, nocturnal mumblings, involuntary vocal emmissions etc. The list will be added to as a hopefully ongoing process. I have intentionally neglected to mention which Chomu authors praise which book as an attempt to preserve a sense of mystery.
Some will be obvious, as they are openly mentioned as influences on the Chomu page, but I have hopefully included many that further expand those vistas.

I will start with just a few for now, as I have very little time, having just returned from Iceland. So, in no order whatsoever, we begin.....

The Beak Doctor: Short Fiction, 1972-1976
Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio
The Member of the Wedding
The Quest for Corvo: An Experiment in Biography
The Rediscovery Of Man
Moravagine
Là-Bas
The Sanatorium under the Sign of the Hourglass
A Strange Tale from East of the River
Hopscotch
Swann's Way

many more to come.....

Sirensongs | 4 comments Great, just what I need, more books to add to my wishlist! *grumble, grumble* All joking aside, thanks for compiling this list, Ross. I love the fact that I have to guess which books influenced which authors!

hehe, yes I imagine for some this list will be quite a burden! Hopefully the works themselves will be rewarding enough. I don't estimate there being much here that will be particularly hard to find or expensive. There is more to come by the way, much more....

Doesn't he say that "the more you know, the more your 'anti-library' grows"?

No, he would say it has to be "entertaining"...yes, I suppose you are right.

Indeed. I certainly hope this list isn't seen as something to be daunted by or as an imposition. This certainly isn't a 'you must read these if you like Chomu Press' list. They are merely curious alleyways to slip down, curtains to peer behind if one so chooses.
