Liz (liz_the_librarian) Hi all, I'm going back to a One Minute Book Club prompt I put up on CPL's facebook a couple of weeks ago:

If you could read a book from a different character's perspective, whose would it be and why?

I thought this was the type of question that warranted some actual discussion, which isn't always easy to get on Facebook.

Without a doubt, I'd want to read the entirety of Harry Potter from Severus Snape's point of view. Snape is one of the few characters Rowling has said she had figured out from the beginning. He is a complex character with a lot of darkness, and he always seems to get the short end of the stick. He's a tortured soul, who despite being a hero and a loyal protector of Hogwarts, is repeatedly criticized for being a Death Eater or double-crosser. Even though he gets some of the credit he deserves by the end, it is post-mortem. I would love to get into Snape's mind, and see the world of witchcraft and wizardry, the halls of Hogwarts and the gatherings of the Dark Lord through his eyes and from within his mind. I think the story told by an adult like Snape would be much darker, and potentially, even more intriguing.

Ann (ann-fracturedfiction) | 516 comments I love the idea of Harry Potter from Snape's point of view. I think reading Sherlock Holmes from his own point of view might be interesting, Watson can be a bit much at times.

It's always interesting to hear what other people say to this question. There are unlimited answers, and I love getting into other people's minds.
