I've been a long-time lurker in the group and thought I'd come out of the shadows and introduce myself. I'm Brenda, 50s, live in Southern California and love to read. I read pretty much anything but true crime and celebrity biographies depending on my mood. I'm currently reading a lot of historical fiction, mystery and scifi - quite the mix, huh? In addition to reading, I do quilting, crochet, jigsaw and crossword puzzles, bake and dote on my plants. Currently without a furry family member but expect to change that this year.

I like many genres - historical fiction is #1, thrillers/plot guessers, non-fiction, classics, true crime - almost anything as long as it's well-written. Live in Texas, love reading, photography, horses/dogs/cats, traveling, good food/wine, volunteering, my family and life! I have a long commute to work so audiobooks are saviors!

Hi! Our group is a reading challenge group. We have a number of challenges where you follow the rules stated in the first post of that challenge's thread.
For example, in Classics Catch Up challenge you post all of the classics type of books that you read during the year. Genre Challenge is a monthly challenge and the schedule for each month is in the first post in the Genre Challenge thread. However, please post messages for each month's specific genre in that month's thread. (i.e. "August'22 - Contemporary" is where you'd post the books you read for that month's genre challenge.)
Please look around and see if any of these challenges look interesting to you. Feel free to join them at any time.

It's ok to lurk for awhile, too, until you get the hang of being in a group. You can give other types of books a try, just to see if you like them. That's what I did, and I found alot of great books that I might have otherwise avoided reading. And you can always post your thoughts on any book that you are reading in the thread I linked below:

Well, what I do to find new books is to click on Browse at the very top of the Goodreads page. There you can find menus such as New Releases, Explore, Genres, and Lists. Just look around and read book reviews until something looks interesting and give it a try. I use my local public library to get books to try. That way there's no waste of money if I don't like the book.
Also, you can look at the books our members post here in the various threads. Many members post what they thought of the book, and say if they liked it or not. Reading tastes are so specific to each person, so I really can't give you my own recommendation. Just look around Goodreads and try a book.

I have my profile set to Private, so not everyone can see my books.
I suggest you use the actual Goodreads webpage, as the app (whether iOS or Android) does not have every function that the website does. Also, you can ask questions like this that are not specific to this group at the Help page. I am not a Goodreads moderator, only a moderator for this specific group. If you have questions about Goodreads in general, please go there and you'll get better answers. Click on the green button to the right that says Ask a Question.

In order to begin the new year on the right foot, I thought I'd re-introduce myself (and I would urge all of you, the already active members of RMFAO, especially the moderators, also to do the same so that the newer members would get a chance to know all of us better.)
My name is Heena and I am a writer from India. I live with my husband and 7 rescued cats and I LOVE reading.
I started RMFAO in 2014, almost 9 years ago, in order to share my love for reading with others and, looking back, I feel so grateful to have met such amazing, friendly, knowledgeable and loving bibliophiles! I have made many great friends over these nine years thanks to RMFAO and have read many great books because of the challenges regularly hosted here.
I hope that all of you will find amazing reading recommendations here and form comforting bonds with fellow RMFAO members.

Hi everyone! My name is Hannah, and I am a 21-year-old college student. I live close to the mountains and absolutely love hiking, biking, running, my dogs, and reading outside every chance I get. I started reading at a very young age and have not gone a stint of time without a book. I will read just about any genre as long as I enjoy the book and it fits what my mind and heart are needing. I take suggestions very seriously, and am only slightly offended when someone doesn't like the book I give them ;)
I am a reader that has no shame in leaving a book behind if I don't like it (even if I get half-way through). I am also all on board with every type of book format - Kindle, audiobook, physical book - you name it and I will go for it!
I enjoy writing for my blog, spending time outside and on adventures, playing with my dogs, advocating for mental health and wellness, living sustainably, and meeting new people. So excited about this group!

No sympathy for me but since fall of 2018 (not including pandemic) I have had major health issues and surgery. Struggled with physical therapy to walk again, could not visit elderly sick father because of said surgery, lost my spouse unexpectedly (he was my care giver after surgery), probably need second surgery but postponed because my father’s health declined and I had to travel to see him and then his death.
While away the person watching my pets and house allowed her drug addict grandson to slowly steal most of our belongings. I had to stop dealing with things in Delaware to return to New Orleans to press charges, get my pets returned (it was like hostage exchange because they removed pets during one of seven hurricanes this past summer). Rifle through 30 years of belongings to determine what was stolen, broken, salvageable. Still waiting for trial but kid got felony charges....I hunted down witnesses not the police.
Decided I could not live in my dream house anymore, packed what I could salvage... not much, but at least the drug addict didn’t want to read my books, and moved back to Delaware temporarily. Anyone want to buy a house in New Orleans? And does anyone know a good back surgeon in DE, MD, or PA(eastern)?
Nothing is near back to normal... I only got 3 of my 4 dogs back and trying to blend my three with my father’s dog and cat has been like dealing with preschoolers that do not want to share and are themselves grieving. They range in ages 9-15 years!
Doing everything I can to keep my sense of humor. I had to read for escapism not broadening my horizons but finally feeling ready to put my toes back into other genres. And the public library system is slightly better even though this is a smaller town.
Am thankful for what I still have and each day I move a step forward(literally and figuratively).
Sorry for the long ramble.... just needed to write this all down so I can let it go.....
