Allison Brett | 2 comments I read a romance novel probably 20 years ago that I cannot find. I can't remember the title or the author and have had no luck searching online using keywords. I hope you can help!

I think (though I'm not sure) the story begins in Charleston, SC. The heroine hides in the hero's stateroom onboard his ship. They are discovered the next morning when a local authority comes looking for her. The hero lies to protect her saying they have been celebrating their marriage. When the authority asks for the marriage license the hero advises it is in the ship's safe and the authorities can come by later to view it. In the interim, the hero marries the heroine and then presents the marriage license. From here the story moves to a new location, I think an island. The details are sketchier from this point. I think they live on the heroine's family's sugar cane plantation. The heroine had been engaged to a man named Cort, or Cole, or something similar. He continues to pursue her even after she becomes pregnant. There is an uprising at the plantation, but I don't remember if it was the slaves or a neighboring country's invasion. The plantation catches fire and that's about all I remember.

I assume this was published in the 80's and I'm fairly certain it was not a Harlequin or equivalent. I think the cover was blue with a white jasmine blossom and I thought "Jasmine" was in the title, but I can't be sure as I've had no luck finding it.

Thank you!
