Hope you enjoy it. I read quite recently, so won't be re-reading but am looking forward to discussing.

Sandy | 458 comments Thanks Jo. I can't believe I've never read anything by him.

Sandy | 458 comments Really good so far.
Hope everyone gives it a try. : )

Gisela Hafezparast | 242 comments I'm about a third in and it is so much better than I expected. Whilst I think the language is not as elegant and the character descriptions are not as good as Dickens, the grappling with difficult topics of the day is just as good and more brutally honest. Also think the story could be transferred into the 21st Century as it is, we are still struggling with the same issues!

Nikki Mcgee | 209 comments I am just starting this now, have also never read any Trollope before

It was my first Trollope. Still my only one but I plan to read more.

Cathy | 553 comments Just got this from the library and hoping to start in the next couple of days. I love Trollope but I've never read this one. I did see the BBC adaptation a few years ago with David Suchet as Melmotte - does anyone else remember it?

Maureen Lo It is my 1st Trollope too. Though I have heard of Barchester Tower during my secondary school days, I was not inclined to read any of his books till now. I must say I prefer his writing than Dickens. I am enojoying The Way We Live Now so far. ;)

Suchet was fabulous in this. He was my mental picture of Melmotte even though it was on about ten years ago.

Pamela (bibliohound) | 359 comments I am going to start this in the next couple of days (once my current 950 page brick is finished). Read The Eustace Diamonds at school as our English teacher loved the 19thC novel. Enjoyed that so have high hopes of this read too.

Nikki Mcgee | 209 comments I am trying not to be intimidated by the 100 chapters!
