It's as much horror as paranormal, but have you read the Frankenstein series by Dean Koontz? It's set in New Orleans and he's started finishing up the series again after a hiatus of a decade (he published the first two books just before Hurricane Katrina hit in 2005 which wrote about an 'end of days' hitting New Orleans, and then after all those people died, he waited four years before publishing the remaining three). He did a good job of bringing the city to life and it was a great twist on the usual Frankenstein tale, kinda like what Wicked did for the Wicked Witch of the West.

Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, Volume 1 Prodigal Son by Chuck Dixon Dean Koontz's Frankenstein City of Night (2) Book 2 by Dean Koontz Dead and Alive (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, #3) by Dean Koontz Lost Souls (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, #4) by Dean Koontz The Dead Town (Dean Koontz's Frankenstein, #5) by Dean Koontz

I believe you can get these as a 5-book set: Frankenstein 5 Book Collection by Dean Koontz

Michelle Olsen | 6 comments It's not really with witches, but have you read the Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon? The majority of it is set in New Orleans.

message 4: by Rachel Annie (new)

Rachel Annie (snapdragoness) Haven't seen that show, but Black Dust Mambo (Hoodoo, #1) by Adrian Phoenix is on my TBR and looks like it may fit your other prerequisites.

Gina Drayer | 4 comments The Ghost Train to New Orleans (The Shambling Guides, #2) by Mur Lafferty

I've not read this one yet, but I loved the first one: The Shambling Guide to New York City

It was funny and had an interesting take on the paranormal world. Good reading!

Wicked Lovely (wickedlovedly) | 2 comments these all look good and I haven't read any of them. I will definitely be checking them all out.
Thank you!

witchyreader13, (witchyreader13) Btw, they are coming out with books based on the Originals. The first one comes out (I think) in January of 2015. There will be three books altogether, all published next year.

Brittain *Needs a Nap and a Drink* (bwilliams2013) | 91 comments Suzanne Johnson has a wonderful paranormal series set in New Orleans called the Sentinels of New Orleans. Not many witches but there are wizards and shapeshifters.

Royal Street (Sentinels of New Orleans, #1) by Suzanne Johnson River Road (Sentinels of New Orleans, #2) by Suzanne Johnson Elysian Fields (Sentinels of New Orleans, #3) by Suzanne Johnson

Elaine Calloway | 18 comments my para romance is set in New Orleans. elementals and fallen angels, family ties, good vs evil. it is Water's Blood by Elaine Calloway.

message 10: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 32 comments I was going to recommend the Sentinels of New Orleans series by Suzanne Johnson, but see someone beat me to it. :D I've only read the first one but I really liked it, and have been waiting for my library to get the rest of them so I can read them as well. The reason there are wizards instead of witches is because in this series, even the female practitioners are called wizards (after you read the first one, you'll understand). The first one even features the ghost of Jean Lafitte; he actually plays a major role in the storyline.

message 11: by Juli (new)

Juli (juli_d_revezzo) | 8 comments I would hasten to direct you to anything by Anne Rice. Everything I've ever read of hers is set in some form or fashion in New Orleans.

message 12: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 32 comments Is "The Wolf Gift" set there as well? I don't remember, I've only read it once so far, and am anxiously waiting to be able to read the sequel (not sure if our library has it yet or not; sometimes it takes them months after a book comes out to get a copy).

Eva Vanrell (evavanrell) | 13 comments If you're looking for witches in a New Orleans setting, Anne Rice's Mayfair Witches series is very well known. The first book in the series is The Witching Hour - https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1...

message 15: by Veronica (new)

Veronica Scott The Shambling Guide to New Orleans was really good and different! Mur created this concept of a "city talker", which I fell in love with, along with the usual paranormal beings. I want to talk to cities LOL! Shortly after I'd read the book, I was lucky enough to be in NOLA and actually met Mur there at the RT Booklovers conference. Had fun chatting with her, lovely person. So I recommend this one!

message 16: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 32 comments OOh, don't tell me too much, I just started reading it a couple days ago! I have to hurry up and finish reading it by Monday though, I have to take it back to the library then. I've only gotten to the part where she's about to go for her interview with the owner of Underground Publishing (I've been distracted a lot).

message 19: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Most of Kresley Cole's books are set in New Orleans. And there are witches, fae, vampires, and shifters.

Holly (bsbabey) | 61 comments I don't think anyone mentioned these yet, but these are all about witches and they are set in New Orleans. :) The Witching Hour (Lives of the Mayfair Witches, #1) by Anne Rice Lasher (Lives of the Mayfair Witches, #2) by Anne Rice Taltos (Lives of the Mayfair Witches, #3) by Anne Rice

Missyb | 8 comments Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost some are in New Orleans, but not all of them.

message 22: by Anna (new)

Anna Richland (anna_richland) | 11 comments There's a brand-new UF/Post-apocalyptic mystery set in New Orleans by debut writer Liah Penn called Pure Death. It's available in both paperback and digital, and the New Orleans in the book is like what would happen to the real New Orleans in a very strange world - sort of Hunger Games without the archery, maybe? Post apocalyptic noir if that makes sense as a hybrid genre.

Anna Richland (anna_richland) | 11 comments I should have linked to the cover of Pure Death - it's gorgeous!

Laurel Wanrow (laurelwanrow) | 41 comments Was Jana DeLeon's Unlucky Unluckyset in New Orleans? Yikes, not sure, but has a southern feel. Not witches, but paranormal / voodoo.

I second Sherrilyn Kenyon's novels. Acheron is my favorite if you can stomach the abuse in the backstory of the first, oh, dozen chapters. It might help to read some of her earlier books first just so you see Acheron as an enigma so you're ready for the poor guy's horrific backstory.

Ria | 14 comments The Casquette Girls by Alys Arden. It's really, really good. It's about witches and has curses and vampires.

Book summary:

After the Storm of the Century rips apart New Orleans, Adele Le Moyne and her father are among the first to return to the city following the mandatory evacuation. Adele wants nothing more than for life to return to normal, but with the silent city resembling a mold-infested war zone, a parish-wide curfew, and mysterious new faces lurking in the abandoned French Quarter, normal will have to be redefined.

Events too unnatural – even for New Orleans – lead Adele to an attic that has been sealed for three hundred years, and the chaos she unleashes threatens not only her life but everyone she knows. Mother Nature couldn’t drain the joie de vivre from the Big Easy, but someone or something is draining life from its residents.

Caught suddenly in a hurricane of eighteenth-century myths and monsters, Adele must quickly untangle a web of magic that links the climbing murder rate back to her own ancestors. But who can you trust in a city where everyone has a secret, and where keeping them can be a matter of life and death – unless, that is, you’re immortal.

Megan (megansreading) | 3 comments I believe the Sookie Stackhouse series is set in LA.

Club Dead

message 31: by Christie (new)

Christie (christineocheallaigh) | 32 comments The Sookie Stackhouse series is set primarily in Bon Temps, LA but she made quite a few trips to New Orleans both for and with Bill and Eric. (And I *still* haven't gotten around to reading the last book in the series! Grrr! Need to get that done before the calendar New Year!)

message 32: by Felicia (new)

Felicia Tatum | 17 comments You need to read anything by Sarah M. Cradit!! I suggest starting with The Illusions of Eventide or The Storm and the Darkness

message 33: by Brandy (new)

Brandy Rivers (brandylrivers) | 17 comments New Orleans and witches? How about Sarah M Cradit's House of Crimson and Clover series?

P.M. Pevato (goodreadscompmpevato) | 27 comments The Mayfair Witches trilogy, starting with The Witching Hour, by the one and only Anne Rice. Just the histories of the Mayfair Witches is worth reading ... Published in 1990 and surpasses just about everything that followed.

message 35: by Jessica (new)

Jessica (jessical1961) Got to agree! The Mayfair Witches Trilogy is awesome! I read this several years ago and absolutely loved it!

message 36: by P.M. (new)

P.M. Pevato (goodreadscompmpevato) | 27 comments Agreed! Just noticed comments previously posted re Mayfair Witches series. Anne Rice influenced many writers and is truly the Queen of paranormal! She wrote about witches, vampires etc before the book market was over saturated ...
