Are things going the way you expected? What do you like most and least about the book so far?

*SPOILERS present below*

Miss Diana I'm really glad we get to see a glimpse of Eli's and Serena's perspectives in this section. Their relationship is so twisted, yet I am so interested in seeing how their power struggle turns out. Serena seems like such a badass character, but I just don't trust either one of them.
I'm also stoked that we get to see a bit of what happened in the prison between Victor and Mitch - I've been wondering about that for quite awhile now! I hope we get to see more before the story wraps up.
Oh, and I love that everyone keeps just barely missing each other at the hotel. So frustrating but so good!

Alexis U (axisinspired) | 15 comments WAIT they're all in the same hotel. I think it took me a lot longer than most to figure that out and I FREAKED OUT. I'm getting way too excited. I actually only have 60 pages left and I'm at work and can't read right now. Last night I just kept thinking "I'll just read one more chapter" but then the chapters were like 2 pages, 4 pages, 3 pages, 6 pages, and then I had read like 40 pages before I finally had to put it down. That's just good pacing.

Serena is a really sad person, and also the ultimate baddie at this point. Eli is too much of a religious nut to be as terrifying as Serena, and I think it's because people without any sense of morality are terrifying-- when Victor and Serena came back, they kind of lost their sense of right and wrong. Eli's is a little (a lot) warped, but he's too focused on doing right by God to really be a threat to humanity. I really like how the concepts of traditional good and evil are completely warped in this book, where I kind of hesitate before rooting for anyone. So I think I'll settle with rooting for Mitch. Yay, Mitch.

Tascha (misskattiec) | 22 comments Finally you found out more about Mitch! I loved that. I wondered how he and Vic got in contact and how they became friends/partners.
Eli and Serena are such twisted souls and there is only a thin line between good and evil which everyone seems to cross quite a few times. This makes the book so so good.
The relationship between Vic and Sydney is awesome. I like reading about them a lot.

Lily I've come to really feel sorry for Eli... he just seems to want to do the right thing. His right thing is just..wrong. I love the way V.E. Schwab can pack such philosiphical stuff into an actionpacked superhero story. Serena seems the most powerful so far and her name matches her power, which is interesting. I love seeing both points of view, seeing how both are plotting and planning to destroy one another.
I find one moment I'm liking, the next moment I'm hating a character. As said before, Mitch seems pretty cool and sane, which is extraordinary in this story.

Kassie (sassyykassie) | 36 comments I find myself completely unable to see how Eli is able to think himself as different than the other EOs in that he's something good and everyone else needs death (again)

It's just crazy to me

I'm flying through this book, it is SO riveting!
I find myself just constantly wanting to read it even if I'm unable right at the moment.

I love victor, of course he isn't perfect, and at first I was like this guy needs to have some self reflection, especially in the beginning because he really wanted the spotlight and everything. But I find myself just loving his character so much.

I want to know more about Serena! I want to know how she was so easily brainwashed by Eli when she herself controls emotions and everything
That's crazy to me!

message 8: by Lu (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lu (analureads) First of all, thank God we finally got to know more about Mitch's past and his interactions with Victor, because ever since the beginning I've been dying to know about it. Also, it's great that we get to see Eli and Serena's points of view since they're so different and yet fascinating.

Eli just has a too big God complex for me to feel sympath towards him whatsoever, and the fact that he tries to excuse his behaviour by blaming it on Divine want irritates me so badly. Victor, on the other hand, is so flawed that he becomes human, even if Eli wants everyone to believe he's lost his ‘soul’.

Keshia Barbee (kesh_dots) | 5 comments I got so excited when I flipped to part 2 and saw Eli's prospective. I thought that the first part made him seem too cold and evil.. and since this book seems to be about straddling that line and how good and bad is relative by perspective I was excited to get his perspective. .. this soo far is the most surprised I have been by a book because to be honest I wasn't sure I would like it when I picked it up... but I am flying through it.

Lauren Blankenship (lovelaurenemily) I have mixed feelings. I want to love this book, but I just don't. Yeah, it's entertaining, mostly, but I'm losing interest. I am just ready to be done. I really enjoyed the middle of the book, so I hate that I'm losing interest.
