Why thank you Sally, I thought he might mean, "Then tell wind and fire when to stop, but don't tell me."

I meant the last line/quote in which Sydney Carton explained the reasoning for his sacrifice.

^^^ Most people would be embarrassed to admit that. And, for very good reason.

Could be the closing quote: "It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever known."
