I really loved the "Cowboys vs Aliens" movie". I have no idea if there was a book for this, as I have really been too busy with lots of stuff in my life to read for fun anymore.
I am new on Goodreads, and this group caught my eye, as I like all kinds of cowboy stuff, and even the weird new mixes, like alien cyborg time travel ghost town themed stuff.
Anyway glad to meet all of you.

Good to meet you Clare!
Yes, in fact there is a book for "Cowboys & Aliens"; is a comic book (a few weird westerns are comics, most notably Jonah Hex), but it is the source material. Here's the Wiki on the comic if you want to take a look for yourself: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboys_...
Glad to have you on the dark, dusty trail with us!

Welcome aboard, Clare.
I actually liked the movie better than the comic. It's not often you say that the movie had more polish to the narrative than the source. Still worth a read though.

Welcome Claire!I saw Cowboys & Aliens, I actually enjoyed it. It was good seeing a movie with Daniel Craig where he wasn't playing a stale James Bond.
Thanks everyone, and the holiday was ok. Been busy doing lots of stuff, and trying to make all of it work. :)
So, here's a question for everyone. What do people like to see in About sections on sites and in books? Does it even matter?
That sounds aa bit more like interview questions than the little blurbs you see on jackets and the back of books and their Amazon pages. Is that really all stuff you want in those? Though I can see how those qquestions fit better on the about section of a site. Thanks!

Though I can see..."You know guys being new to all this, I don't know much, but I always bought and read books based on what the back cover said the story was about, and only read about the author on the back cover AFTER I was done reading the book. It never mattered much to me if the person had a PhD. in english or not, or was a graduate of some such fancy school of writing. What mattered most was if the story was good, and if I enjoyed it, and if there was a sequel, then I would go and look for more.
Just my 2 cents.
John wrote: "+1 Clare. Except for nonfiction. Then I'd at least like some credentials or pertinent background."Okay, John, there you have a point, as in a nonfiction situation, I too would want to know if the author was at least somewhat versed in what they were talking about.
Afterall. it would not mean much if they were telling you how to "fix a car" so to speak, without any knowledge of how to do this.
Right, so, it seems that keeping the author blurb "boring" can be okay, or a bit silly, but website pages should be at least a few paragraphs.
I'm tryin to figure this out since I'm working on web stuff right now. I kind of loathe writing about myself seriously at all. I'm too damn silly.

I think you can keep it pretty simple Ashe. Just say as much as you feel like, you can keep it short if you feel better that way. Most "about" stuff in books just says "So and So lives in so and so with his his wife and kids, or dogs, or whatever. On a web page, as mentioned earlier, you can list influences, hobbies, things like that, but I'm like you, I dont like writing about myself either.
It's cool to get a peek at someone but yeah, writing about myself like I'm a potential toaster or somethin seems weird. Or just all. I have a hard time giving details and not making jokes at my own expense.
That usually requires copious amounts of self-deprecation and dick jokes. Mountains worth. Book blurb I'm less worried about. Thanks for the input.
Yeah, "About" sections seem to be a bit of background on the author, influences, and why they write what they write. Personable, funny, witty, or dry seem to be the most common choices of author voice when doing this section. But above all be yourself.
Happy Holidays everyone! John I havent seen you around lately, good to see you! Hope everyone has a good Xmas and New Years and such.
Yup. Happy Holidays to all! It has been quiet around here - too quiet.
I'm just gonna relax and enjoy the holidays, not gonna do anything major book wise. Wait till next year is what I say.
Too many things to do right now, although once things calm down I hope to try to be reading with all of you.
With a bit of holiday money I finally got a copy of one of the "Merkabah Rider" books (book #2), and as a few of you guys have said before, it is indeed awesome. I do however wish the publisher had made the first book available for Kindle; I'm buying my new reads there as I'm trying to consolidate my library ahead of a big move and I wish I could have gotten the first book in the series digitally.
But that being said, did anyone pick up any new books over the holiday?

It actually was but book 1 is out of print now. Ed's gonna be getting the rights back and will re-release them once he figures all that out. You might send him a message on facebook (or here) and see if he has a pdf or something you could paypal him for. Damnation Books is pretty terrible.

Ok, I might do that. I figured it was a publisher decision, not his. Good on Ed for getting the rights to his books back! Re-releasing them on his own isn't really difficult, but the legal wrangling with the publisher might be the tricky part, as I understand it.

Well, he gets them back next month, i think. I can't remember all the details. Still exhausted from the move. End of contract though.
Hey is there a weird musketeers novel out there? (I don't mind a love story but preferably light on the whole love story thing please love stories annoy me)
That's actually not a bad idea. Or maybe the Scarlet Pimpernel getting chased by Things From Beyond.
I mean, I grew up watching the Disney Three Musketeers with Charlie Sheen and Kiefer Sutherland (and Tim Curry devouring everything on screen with him), so there's no way I could ignore using them. Especially considering, despite all the swashbuckling swordplay, THEY WERE SPECIALISTS WITH MUSKETS! They were rifleman! That translates so easily.
Happy New Year all!My weird western min-ebook (meaning mini-book...does that work? :-)) is published tomorrow. The cover changed a little bit in the end:
End Trails - Two Stories of the Weird West
