Johanna Levin | 1 comments I read a book when I was younger and I really want to find it again!

The first part was mainly about a man that lived outside a bigger town with a big tower for witches and wizards if I dont remember incorrectly.
He found a child outside abandoned and took her in. He gave her a stone that was alive as a pet. I think something happened like a war or something so a witch from that big tower to hide the child.

She hid her under her bid cape and the girl was looking down at the woman's pointy shoes as they walked.

Unfortunately I dont remember more.

What year did you read it, or what year was it published, approximately?

Andy | 2124 comments A ring with a dragon biting its own tail would be called an Worm (or Wyrm) Ouroboros ring, probably, since "Worm Ouroborous" is the name of that image. Your book is probably not this one though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Worm...

Jaina Rose (ireadtilldawn) | 52 comments That definitely sounds like the first Septimus Heap book, Magyk. Incidentally one of my favorite books. :)

Posh | 13 comments could it be Talisman of El? I know it looks more like a snake but thought it was worth a shot.

Maybe Robert's autocorrect took over - I think he is referring to A Fish Dinner in Memison by E.R. Eddison. Same guy who wrote The Worm Ouroboros.

Although "Fish Dinner in Me Muslin" is an attractive title.

A rollicking tale of life in Regency England among a family of staunch pescetarians. Pretty cook's assistant Helen Halibut battles to preserve her virtue from the attentions of the master of the house, decadent Lord Caviar, and his son Reggie (a.k.a. "Fishpie") who makes off-color jokes about "pieces of cod, nudge nudge wink wink" every time he sees her, all while while hunting down the ultimate recipe for sole du roi, reputedly consumed by Charles II as his last meal before his execution. Complete with sizzling gypsies.

Are the gypsies being cooked?

No, they're just hot.

*ahem* I fear that we have hijacked this thread; my apologies to the original poster. To refresh our memory, we are looking for this book:
