CthulhuKitten | 11 comments I'm looking for a collection of fantasy short stories.

The only story I remember, is set in future London. By this time, the earth has been taken over by aliens. The main character is a detective who is trying to solve a crime I think. I think he might do it with a new lodger he just got. In the story he visits the queen, who is an alien. It seemed like the people were happy with being taken over by aliens because it saved them from something. There is a lot of references to Sherlock Holmes throughout the story.

SPOILER ALERT:
At the end you realize that the protagonist of the story is Sherlock Holmes' main enemy, and that the bad guys were actually Sherlock Holmes and Watson.

It is also in Neil Gaiman's collection Fragile Things: Short Fictions and Wonders so you may have read it there.
