Dave | 3 comments The novel is set on an island, although I think it begins on a road where there is like a cross and a empty cabin or something. On the island, there are these mysterious people that live in caves and tunnels and come out at some part of the story, and the protagonist is made prisoner by these people. I remember a scene where the the protagonist and her friend try to get off the island in a canoe but forget the paddle in the house, and when she or he goes back inside they are captures. There is also something inside the island that emits energy or light and a detective comes at the end to save the day. I think at some point the inhabitants try to get off the island but are killed when the boat crashes near the island.

When did you read it, or when was it published? Is it realism or does it have fantasy aspects? Standalone or part of a series? Is the island in a real geographical location, or fantasy location?

Dave | 3 comments I read it in high school, it has a fantasy aspect and it is a standalone.

Eliene | 38 comments Might be Apocalypse by Tim Bowler? The main character is trying to figure why the islanders are acting weird. There's a boat crash. People live in caves. I think there's a cross too and there are some odd religious/cultish undertones.

Here's the plot summary at wikipedia: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apocal...

Dave | 3 comments From what I remember, it has very similar elements but I don't think it's that book. The beginning and the end are completely different from what I remember. Also I think I read it in French, so it might be a French book, but it could also be a translation.

Dave, are you still looking for this or did you find it?

What years were you in high school?
