I think it would depend how often! If it was a separate thread it wouldn't be a problem, but if someone was forever going "This reminds me of something in one of my books, where ... " then it would get pretty boring. I'm not interested in Regency Romance as a genre, myself

Yes, I agree with Jenny . No probs with a separate thread, but I too am a Georgette Heyer fan, not at all a generic Regency/Georgian/Romance fan.

& I think that is something that should be up for discussion too. I've read Christy's review of the Kloester biography of GH & she says she no longer reads GH's works. Is there anyone in touch with Christy who could ask if she would like someone to co moderate with her?
I've actually been happy with the unmoderated state of this place & having discussions with people who behave like grown ups & don't need moderating but its issues like this & me putting a thread in the wrong forum that we need help with. :)
& back to Teresa! I'd be happy with authors mentioning their own work if we could give them their own forum. & if like what Jenny says the authors didn't try to turn GH threads into discussion of their own work.
Like some of the others here I rarely read romances of any description.
Sorry to be longwinded!

I think though if we can start new threads and no one minds there being an author's thread it can't hurt anything to set one up. I agree that it's not good as part of general discussions.
Teresa, as you are associating your book with GH, are you aware of this Group? https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
They do allow/encourage book promotion if they are clean romances and not primarily religious.

On the question of moderation in this forum: everyone is so civil and grown-up, I agree with those who say that it operates very well on its own. Which, considering some of the other types of forums I've been on, is pretty incredible.

I've actually found that some YA novels are better because they're forced to concentrate on the plot, and therefore achieve a better sense of romance.
I wonder perhaps if we're more civil because Georgette Heyer (and Jane Austen/Elizabeth Gaskill etc) attracts a more mature audience. I don't mean in age but in understanding?

And also, perhaps the reason everyone here is so civil is because this place is really about our joy in reading Heyer's novels. There is not much to get angry about there.

Abigail wrote: Well, some of her characters are pretty rude--but only for our, the reader's pleasure!
And the rudest characters tend to be elderly. Do you think that's because they feel they have earned the right, or because they come from a more forthright age, or both? But I think in many cases they are more benevolent than they would like to let on. Maybe that's why it's possible to love them, too.
It's fine if you want to make a thread to talk about your book, just as long as that's not the only reason you're here.
On the other topic, I've thought about having someone else to moderate, but honestly, there hasn't been a need. Like someone said, everyone here is civil.
And if anyone is wondering, I don't have it set up for people other than friends to message me, because at one point I was getting a bunch of annoying messages from authors asking me to review their books.
I'll start a thread that people can use to ask me something, and I'll try to check in more.

Is it permissible for people who are active on the GH Fans Discussion Board to mention their own books if those books have some sort of association with Heyer (Regency or Georgian period for instance)? Would other members be interested in hearing about them? Is there already a thread for just that purpose?
I know there are such threads on some of the other Goodreads boards, so I am wondering if the fact that I can't find one here means that this is a practice that is frowned on.
