Pamellia (michiganparents) Kimberly, just above the comment box on the right side you will see (some html is ok). Click on that. About 3/4s of the way down you will see how to place spoilers in a comment.

Oh, Addy, I'm so sorry to hear you are under the weather. I hope it's not any thing serious and some extra rest and hot Elderberry tea will cure. I too have what I call the III (Iowa Invasion Infirmary) that my husband brought home about 10 days ago. It's difficult to read, but I'm going to try this one soon. Feel better very soon. Drink plenty of liquids, doesn't have to be water, but steer clear of loads of caffeine. Rest as much as you can...like lie down and rest. Keep your bedroom as clean as possible, like open the windows when you aren't sleeping to air it out. Feel better soon!

Thank you, Pam!!!

Addy | 5111 comments Thank you Pam! So sweet of you:) I do feel better. I had pressure built up on the backs of my eyes that gives me a mean headache. Had it for 3 days. I think it's allergies plus my kids have been sick too. Gotta love fall right? And everything it brings.

? For everyone. I've read some more and wonder if bullies can be that cruel? Maybe I'm out of the loop and my kids are too little but I've never been bullied that bad. Is it different for guys? I have two boys by the way.

Addy | 5111 comments At 11% things are getting interesting!

message 57: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 19 comments Bullying is bad, especially for boys. For my Master in Human Development I had to read a lot of books on adolescence. I focused more on boys since I have a teenage boy. It's horrible how bad they are to each other. The pecking order is really bad and the stuff I was reading especially from books Like Raising Cain: Protecting the Emotional Life of Boys opened my eyes. I would talk to my son and his friends and I learned a lot about what is going on in the life of a teenage boy that I never even thought about. I was disturbing to find out. Most of it is from what we project their role in our society. I recommend the book to parents, especially single parents like myself.

Boys and girls and be cruel and the newest evidence they are finding in bullying behavior is now that it isn't a social-economic factor anymore. Now the popular kids are doing it even more to stay on top of the pecking order. They will turn on those around them and bully them to keep their status. Also, those kids (especially boys) that are the lowest on the pecking order and get bullied, once someone else cracks, cries, or freaks out, they are the newest on the low of the pecking order and get bullied on by everyone. The previous of the kids that were bullied are glad it isn't them anymore and kids of become ghost like to not draw attention to themselves to get bullied again.

Girls that a totally different system. I remember being horrified finding out that the girls will take photos or videos of the girls they are bullying and post them online. Girls can be nasty. It's more psychological and cat fights.

I'm in the 25% mark in the book and finding it really interesting. Things have picked up.

Sorry--I just re-read two of Moore's books, and I posted that comment in the wrong forum. Although this was the "first novel", it was one of the ones that I discovered later. As such, it was really interesting to see how his characterization skills progressed. (view spoiler).

Pamellia (michiganparents) I have lost interest in this book. Maybe I'll open it again some time this week. For now, I'm not sure.

I read it too slowly from 40% to 80% which impacted my impression but it was a bit bloated. At least 50 pages worth of things I didn't need to know in order to appreciate the story. Good story though. It deserves proper editing.

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 19 comments I'm going to get to the 50% mark today.

message 78: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments I've been slacking on this one but I think I have a system in place with all the books I'm reading. I'll get back to it tomorrow. On the plus I'll be traveling soon which will free up more time to read. Yay!

I finished my re-read a while ago....just waiting for others--LOL!

message 83: by RachelvlehcaR (new)

RachelvlehcaR (charminggirl) | 19 comments Nope. I am still reading it. I just don't want to get too far ahead. I was thinking if finishing it this weekend but now you are back to reading it I will take it slow.:)

message 84: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Cool! Good to hear it! I know this thread has been kinda stagnant, so I was hoping others were still tackling it. I have to say that Moore is very thorough in this book. Always letting us know what everyone is doing or thinking. So far I think some of that could be edited, but starting to enjoy it a little more now.

I think it was one of his first novels, so it's not nearly as "concise" as some of his later work. I started with the later novels, and noticed that difference, myself.

message 86: by Addy (new)

Addy | 5111 comments Is anyone a Shane Mckenzie fan? I'm not sure if I am. I've read a few things from him that were good but for the most part, too extreme for me. Anyway, this book reminds me of one that Shane wrote about a boy who also makes friends with a bookstore owner except he's more into the comic biz. This boy also gets bullied and somehow awakens an evil nymph? Well, something like that. This nymph changes his life where the boy can do just about anything, but way more perverse I couldn't finish it. A lot of similarities. Can't remember the name of it though...

I've read a few of his, but nothing like that one..... I can read extreme when I'm in the mood for it, but sometimes I like the more "quiet horror" reads.....especially when things get tense at home ;)
