You might have seen this puzzle before and you can get answers easily in net.. But the process of solving this would be really intersting and when you find the answer yourself, you feel good.. Try it..

Let us assume that there are five houses of different colors next to each other on the same road. In each house lives a man of a different nationality. Every man has his favorite drink, his favorite brand of cigarettes, and keeps pets of a particular kind.
1.The Englishman lives in the red house.
2.The Swede keeps dogs.
3.The Dane drinks tea.
4.The green house is just to the left of the white one.
5.The owner of the green house drinks coffee.
6.The Pall Mall smoker keeps birds.
7.The owner of the yellow house smokes Dunhills.
8.The man in the center house drinks milk.
9. The Norwegian lives in the first house.
10.The Blend smoker has a neighbor who keeps cats.
11. The man who smokes Blue Masters drinks beer.
12.The man who keeps horses lives next to the Dunhill smoker.
13. The German smokes Prince. (Not me. It's a brand name )
14. The Norwegian lives next to the blue house.
15. The Blend smoker has a neighbor who drinks water.
The question to be answered is: Who keeps fish?

Hari | 88 comments A,B,and C divide an amount of Rs 4200 among themselves in the ratio 7:8:6 respectively, if an amount 200 is added to each of their shares, what will be the new respective ratio of their shares of amount?

message 113: by Reshma (new)

Reshma (ReadAway) | 170 comments @Prince The German keeps the fish.
@Hari The new ratio will be 8:9:7.

message 114: by Anjali (new)

Anjali (smiley_faces) i don't know prince's answer and i got hari's right. 8:9:7

message 115: by Hari (new)

Hari | 88 comments @ Reshma and Maths...yup i admitted , But i would like to know how u solve this problem...there may be a diff stuff dear ones...so expose urs way "wch wy u both reached the final ans?"

message 116: by Reshma (new)

Reshma (ReadAway) | 170 comments Given, A:B:C::7:8:6 & A+B+C=4200
Therefore, 7x+8x+6x = 4200
=> x = 200
=> A=1400, B=1600, C=1200
Adding 200 to each share, A = 1600, B = 1800, C = 1400
Therefore the new ratio is 1600:1800:1400 which is 8:9:7.

Hari | 88 comments may i .......

Given A:B:C 7:8:6 so total 21

Given amnt 4200
4200 / 21 = 200 ie single share

Here adding 200 in each ie, 1 share ..so add single share in each ratio nothing but "1"...new ration 8:9:7

so simple than urs

message 123: by Hari (new)

Hari | 88 comments Amongst five friends P,Q,R,S and T each scored different marks in an examination out of a total of 100 marks. S, scored more than only T. R scored less than P. only one person scored more than Q. The one who scored second highest marks scored 87 marks.
If S scored 23 marks less than the marks scored by Q, which of the following could possibly be R's Score? Justify your answer
A)64 b)61 c)93 d)89 e)78

message 124: by Reshma (new)

Reshma (ReadAway) | 170 comments Lets rank P, Q,R,S,T according to their marks as 1,2,3,4, and 5.
Given, S scored more than only T, => S is in 4th position and T in 5th.
Only one person scored more than Q => Q is in 2nd position.
R scored less than P => R can only be in 3rd position.
Now, 2nd highest score is 87 => Q=87
S = Q -23 = 87 - 23 = 64
Score of R is greater than S and less than Q, therefore 78.
