I have read hardly any this week and hope this weekend gives me an opportunity to catch up. Damn job just gets in the way! ;)
I was just kidding, but I do really look forward to weekends when I can read more, even though they somehow feel more packed than the week.I work at a synagogue, but we do have a lovely library on the grounds that I have complete and total access to. It's really beautiful, but small.

@Ana I have found myslef quite often mislead by others or the book descriptions classifications. For example, I feel that publishers will often put books is the best selling genres, in order to attract readers, but that's not how they really feel to me when I am reading the books.So I prefer to read the book first and make my own opinion of it.
@Kandice Having access to a library at work, that's great! I must admit that I don't know much about Jewish culture and litterature.

A bris is when a boy is circumcised and named on his 8th day of life.Aaron, if the baby was wailing it must not have been a very talented moyal! I am not Jewish, but my pediatrician is. My first son was circumcised by our (at the time) pediatrician and it was the most traumatic experience of my life! Because of that I decided NOT to have my younger son circumcised when he was born, but the pediatrician arranged for her Jewish Moyal to do it (in a non-religious setting) and my baby never even cried! The room was dimly lit, there was soft music playing and they had him suck on a piece of cloth soaked in sugar water which serves as a soother for infants.
A Moyal circumcision should be much, much less traumatic than a hospital or office one.
I really like the Jewish tradition, specially the Kaballah studies, but that's something I could never set my mind to agree on.
That's actually something I've always wondered at: why circumsise boys if not for religious reasons? It seams quite popular in the USA, but it's really not common i France for non-Jewish (are there other religions that request circumcision?).
Supposedly, during wartime, men were circumcised because it kept infections down in "that area". Soldiers are often unable to bathe in a timely manner in the field and being circumcised makes it easier to keep clean. Sounds like laziness to me...We did it because my husband was and it was what we knew. When we decided not to do it with out second son, our pediatrician said that it often causes a feeling of disconnect when male children are "different" in such a visual way from their father and siblings. Had we not circumcised our first son we would not have done so with out second.
If my children have sons I will encourage them NOT to do so.

I could swear I heard the opposite too, that it causes more infections, because the sensitive parts are more exposed, but not sure about that.
the nonsense excuses people invent in order to justify their religious faith or traditions. Better call it what it is a religious tradition and you agree with it or not without need for other excuses.As for me I respect the people who belive it as I respect people who don't want to have a blood transfusion, but I can't agree with it anyway I see it. For me it is a violation of the rights of the child and it is what's the point here. We are talking about this child and his future and not of his fathers believes. That's my view.
We could still burn people in the squares in the name of tradition. Why we don't do it anymore? Because we are human beings and we evolve (hopefully!)

I hope that is a sign of our "evolution" as well. Being able to see things from both sides, regardless of our beliefs.

I wish I could have slept longer!
I will take a few days off work starting wednesday till friday, probably won't do much but relax.
Our weekend was incredibly busy, so I almost feel like work will be a little more relaxing today than the weekend was! O_oOnly a week and a half left of school! Yay, then I get the bathroom and kitchen to myself in the mornings (mostly). :D
On vacation after this week, can't wait! Hopping on a train Sunday to head down to DC for three days, to take in the monuments, buildings, and the Smithsonian. Very excited.Happy Monday everybody!

Hi Anita. How you doing!? That's great, cogratulations for your new aquisition. First you will need to look for an app to read ebooks. Usually the devices already have one installed but maybe you will like to try different ones and see what fits you better. Then you need to go online and look for ebooks to download them to your device. There are a lot of free ebooks online, that are under copyright protection but if you want something new or specific you must pay for it.As for the apps they are almost all free with some paying extras for advanced users.
You can download the Amaozn Kindle App, the Nook reading app and others. The nice thing about you using the tablet as your reader is that you are not stuck buying books only from Amazon or Barnes & Noble, or others. You can download all the apps and buy/download books from everywhere!In truth, I have a Kindle App on my Nook, I just don't use it. O_o

I personally dislike romance and I love that they never show up in Bookbub emails!

I don't mean to sound ungrateful, but how would you like to spend five months sandwiched between Jane Eyre (drama queen) and Fundamentals of Thermodynamics (pyromaniac)? I know the trip to meet you will be long and fraught with peril, but after the close calls I've had, I'm ready for anything (besides, some of my best friends are suspense novels). Morning world! It's the weekend, so yay, but it's jam packed so won't be relaxing, just not paid for work. O_o
Sounds yummy! It's actually a bit gloomy here which is unusual for us. There is no rain in the forecast, though.
I was looking at my book stats today, and I noticed a funny fact. Both Aprils, this year and last year, were blank monthes reading wise for me. I.e. I didn't read anything during these months. I'm now wondering if there's something special about April for me that I just don't seem to read during it? I'll need to check on this next year too, just 2 incidences are hardly enough to make a conclusion.
That's interesting Melaslithos, what's about April!? Could it be because of Spring!? As for me I have no months without reading, matter of fact I have no day without reading!
Well, when I say without reading, it's without reading a "proper" book according to GR definition. I still read a lot of articles, magazines, fanfictions, etc.But I'll have to dig into it!

@Kandice BD - Bande dessinée, also know as Comics in the USA.
I unfortunately never read Sandman, never could get my hands on it. But yes, I like BD. But it's hard to get some here. It's usually quite expensive, more expensive then books, so I used to go and borrow some at the library, or read them directly in bookshops when I was in France. But here, it's impossible to do that...
BTW, BD, mangas, I like all of those.But I have to admit I never really tried american comics.
If you could read portuguese you have your problem solved. Anyway you should try comics, like super heroes. They are very nice but in general they are oriented to YA.

How is everyone doing? Any plans for the weekend?
My youngest son graduated from High School today, so that was a highlight!My husband and daughter are out of town this weekend for soccer, so I am having a sleepover with a couple of girlfriends. The 3 of us did NOT vote for this month's selection for the movie/book club we attend so are going to watch the movie together and take turns reading out loud to get us started on the book.
