Sorobai | 365 comments I just happened to ear someone talk about reading inside a train! For me, trains are the best transportation to read. Specially when everybody are doing the same as you and keeping their mouths shout! lol Good day everybody!

Sorry to hear that Andrew, better luck next time.

Eheh Sorobai, never thought of it that way, everyone sitting near each other reading. I think it must be particularly funny when a person cannot help but gasp or smile or have other instinctive reactions to what they are reading :)

message 556: by Sorobai (new)

Sorobai | 365 comments Yes, it happenned! About 4 or 5 people reading on a train, not a single sound besides the rolling forward of the train itself. It's heaven! But the contrary and most despleasant is when you get someone talking on the fone all way long or a group of animated friends after a meeting out. That's like hell and their words force their entry inside your head even if you closed all it's doors. Nock, nock, I had a wonderful lunch, the problem will be to diggest all this meat and beans! Other awfull thing is the displeasant sound of someone coughing and the eco it produces in everybody aboard, since like a malicious repetition everybody feels their duty to do the same thing. It's like a never ending of frighful displeasing sounds. And when you realise your reading is gone forever! But the wonder of wonders is when you find yourself riding a train all by yourself. It flys over the railways like a flying machine and you feel you are going to end at another planet. Which in fact you will!

I'm taking the train from Western Mass. to Washington DC in June, and can't wait to sit curled up with a good book. Love traveling by train!

message 558: by Sorobai (new)

Sorobai | 365 comments I was refering to commuter trains. But if what you are going to catch is a long run train that's even more wonderful! Oh! The pleasants of traveling by train with a book! You read a bit, you put it on the bench besides you, you gaze out for a while, you pick up the book, you read another bit, you skim some pages you put in on your lap and gaze outside. You shut your eyes for a while, you pick up the book and read a few passages, you wonder it's meaning, you invent a meaning of your own. You put the book at your side, you get up and strech your limbs, you sit back up and curl in a confortable position, you pick up the book and open it wide in front of your face, you realise it's covering you from the sun and you lower it a little bit while reading some more, you look out, you look in, you read and you stop and you read again some more. Meanwhile you reach your destination and you wish you had decided to travel farther away so you could had finnished your book!

message 559: by Kandice (new)

Kandice I have only ridden a train a few times, and that was with small children, so no reading those times. :( What you are describing Sorobai, sounds absolutely lovely.

When we have log car rides, which is often (for soccer) my husband always drives and I feel rude to bury my nose in a book and not keep up conversation. Now that my children are all older I often let them sit in the front so I can bury myself in a book in the backseat with no guilt. They think I'm being nice, so it's a win-win.

Kandice I will stay off the thread, at your request, but moving forward, this is a "public" discussion. I understand Andrew doesn't have private messaging at the moment, but there are many other options for a "private" discussion. You can comment on his status, thus making it a conversation between you and him, or the two of you can exchange email addresses.

Barring those two options you can start a new Private, Invitation only group and invite Andrew.

Sorobai | 365 comments You can find heaven inside a train, but better yet is to find yourself!

I completely agree Sorobai, and people seem to talk extra loud while on the phone without realizing it, it's so annoying!!

message 575: by Sorobai (last edited Apr 22, 2015 08:56AM) (new)

Sorobai | 365 comments I don't mind people chatting around, because when I open a book I go inside another reality and I just forget everything around me. But there is a limit and that's your ears health. It's hard to feel confortable either reading or not when there's someone screaming at your ears! Some people think they are heavy metal singers and they scream to their phones like they would scream to a microfone. Why the hell are you screaming so loud at the machine, I can't even understand what you are saying! At those times I just close the book and appreciate this funny thing: a person discussing alone, like a madman arguing against himself and geting mad by his own incompreension! That's the funny part that saves the day, I mean the trip home!

message 576: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Yeah, I agree. It's especially annoying when they don't even position their phone properly, are basically covering the mike with their cheek or hand, so instead of fixing it they shout louder... Funny but annoying when you are trying to get immersed in a good book. I wish I could focus effortlessly but noise really distracts me.

message 577: by Sorobai (new)

Sorobai | 365 comments You must train your mind to concentrate and then you feel you are pulled in. Off course a good book helps with this!

message 578: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Hope you feel better Andrew. I have a sore throat and hope that's all it is!

How are you all doing? All ye sick folks, feeling any better?

message 583: by Kandice (new)

Kandice Hello! My throat is killing me, but thank goodness I have no fever. I am cooking and hosting a Mexican themed dinner for our Torah School families tonight at work, so can NOT get really sick until tomorrow.

I hope everyone has nice weekend plans.

message 587: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My dinner last night was a huge success, thank goodness! Today I plan on reading between loads of laundry and tonight is the final night of my children's musical, so a big group of us are going. It's been a busy week!

Busy weekend too, I see! Hope you feel better by now.

message 589: by Kandice (new)

Kandice My throat still hurts, but nothing else. I don't have fever either which is good because I work tomorrow and the rest of the week and can't really afford a day off this coming week. The end of the school year is just too busy.

I cannot wait for summer when I work only 5 days a week. It'll feel like vacation!

Kandice I'm at work and just checking this here and there. I wasn't ignoring you!

Did you hear back about your interview/application?

message 593: by Sorobai (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Ouch, hope you get better soon! And I am sure you will, there's still plenty of months till the year as over and you can grab some shorter books ;)

message 595: by Sorobai (new)

Sorobai | 365 comments Thanks for your support Ana. I really hope to feel better soon, I need to increase my reading and I can't if I feel bad. Anyway I though about putting some shorter books on my list. But, don't you feel it's kind of cheating...?

message 596: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Nah! I actually like my books to average 200ish pages, up to 300. The one I am reading right now has almost 500 pages, so I think it's only fair if I read shorter ones. There's plenty of free ones in Amazon for instance. They even have a section for 15 minute reads, and also 30 and probably 1 hour.

message 597: by Sorobai (new)

Sorobai | 365 comments I feel the same too. I like to change from larger to shorter ones from time to time. But most books I want to read are quite big... I didn't know about the section for 15 minutes read at amazon. It seems interesting! Need to check it out!

message 598: by Ana (new)

Ana (anaslair) | 2312 comments Mod
Yep, make sure you order by price so the free ones appear on top.
Hi, Andrew.

BTW, I always feel like I'm cheating when I add short books to my challenge, so I know what you mean. ;)

Good morning Andrew!
