RF~ I just read your post about fur god. I agree I think she should label her review with that line. LOL

Thanks RF I see The Devil's Prey is back on the free list. I got it this time. It wasn't a favorite but you'll never know when the mood hits. LOL
OK, so as you all know I'm currently reading The Highlander's Bride. I started it yesterday afternoon and I'm already at 90%. I'm loving it, but there's a BUT, a huge BUT!!!! I cannot understand WHY the heroine refused to tell the H who her grandfather was. I know EB read the book, but I'm not sure if Noreen or Kate has. Here's a little synopsis...
The h is half Scot, half English. She's going to go live with her grandfather, a Scottish laird. En route her escort is attacked and she is kidnapped. The man who kidnaps her is cruel and wants to marry her. She refuses and is beaten. Ultimately she escapes and later wanders into the H's camp.
At first, she withholds her story for quite a while and when she does tell the H what happened she lied and told him she was kidnapped from her brother's lands in England. Why does she do this? Because she is scared for her grandfather and his people's safety. The evil man who kidnapped her, and his even more evil father, had threatened to attack her grandfather's people if she tried to return to them...or rather go to them. She doesn't know anything about her grandfather's clan, if it's a strong one, or a small one, or anything, so she is concerned for their safety. OK I can live with that.
She has some ridiculous plan to protect her grandfather. She plans on disappearing during the spring. Changing her name, etc. so as not to bring any danger to his clan. Where the hell is she going to go? She has no idea, but that is her plan. She plans on getting word to her grandfather somehow, to warn him of a possible impending attack against his clan by the Douglass Clan (the ones who kidnapped her) and then just going off into the world to fend for herself. I should point out that when she left England, she had to promise her half-brother that she would not return for any reason--that was the only way he would agree to let her go live with her maternal grandfather--so returning to England is not an option. But, even that I am willing to tolerate...I'm choking on it, but I was willing to go along with it.
What I cannot for the life of me fathom is WHY WHY WHY when the H finally gets the true story out of her, she doesn't tell him who her grandfather is. At this point, the H wants her to marry him. She tells him she can't and tells him the whole story. He says he can protect her family--he is laird of a powerful clan, this she knows! But she refuses because she is trying to protect everyone. STUPID STUPID STUPID! She then agrees to marry the H after he tells her he will let her go in the Spring if that becomes necessary to protect her family. He's lying of course. LOL I don't know how she didn't see that. Who the hell enters a temporary marriage in damn medieval Scotland????
Anyhow, from clues he's picked up from things she has said, the H figures out who her grandfather is. We, the readers, already know that the g/father is a close family friend of the H's family. He's actually the H's godfather! Anyhow, the g/father's clan is a powerful one, and the Douglass threat against them is thus an empty one. Sigh All this drama over NOTHING!!!!!
One reviewer rated the book low--1 or 2 stars, I can't remember which--and unfavorably compared this book to the Garwood's THE SECRET. I can see the similarities, but I don't agree that this book is a poor ripoff of Garwood's book. I really, really like this book, but OMG the premise is so stupid I almost can't take it! I'm gonna go look for another book by this author. I think she writes very well.

I see we have a new member. Hi Tracy, welcome! So you moved from Cali to PA, huh? I moved to MA from Cali two years ago. I too hate the winters. I'm not looking forward to my third one.

RF~ The book your talking about I read and vaguely remember but honestly most is sketchy it sounds from your description it was the frustrating on sense. I hate when an author stretches out an ify story plot. I have overlooked if I liked the couple but if the plot keeps up stupidity I tend to leaf through which is probably what I did. It's funny because I have to copies which tells me it looked like it would be good but left no overwhelming influence on me. I bought it when Borders was still around. That is one very nice feature on Kindle if you've already got it on your device it tells you.

Thanks for the list, RF. Grabbed that Mermaid one too. :) Glad you and EB are getting such a kick out of Fur God. I suppose I can go edit the review and make EB happy. lol

Hi Tracy and welcome to our little group.RF, I did grab Devil's Prey also but it isn't in my list of to read soon. lol
EB, I love that about the kindle! My memory is horrible and I love clicking on a book and seeing I already own it or not. If they didn't have that feature I would probably have several copies of a bunch of them. lol
Okay...changed my review...just for you, EB. ;)
EB...I am loving Red...think I am about a third of the way through. Hope you enjoy The Invasion of Falgannon Isle as much as I did. :)I was browsing the free top 100 best sellers again. Here are a few that you might like:

Ok ladies. Please don't tell me that fur god and flea guy are going to start hanging out together. I'll be scratching all night. My reading is all over the place this weekend. I read a cowboy book. Follow the Stone by John Locke. A quirky western about a cowboy who makes his living talking whores into going to work in Dodge City. Then charging them a fee to transport them. One partner is a witch. The other to odd to describe. I liked it it made me laugh. Stupid book.
Then I read 77 Days In September. It's about a man struggling to get home to his wife and family 1500 miles away after a nuclear bomb 300 miles above the United States knocks out all the electricity. Interesting story. It was a first for the writer and I liked his style. He wrote in a very understated way the effects and downward spiral of a society stripped of life as we know it . I thought it gave it more realism.
Last but not least. Romance. I finally got to Intimate Deceptions. Really liked it. Still think the opening premise is dumb but I liked Grace and Vincent so much I'm willing to overlook it. Thanks for recommending it gals. Gave it 4 stars.
I was up until 4 am reading yesterday. It's 3 am now but I don't think I can turn in until I go over the Freebie list. Won't be able to sleep if I miss something.
Storycartel.com has over 60 free books available right now. They're free to anyone who agrees to give an honest review. Mostly new writers. The books are loaners. I just picked up a childrens' book for my granddaughter.
Noreen wrote: "Reading Fanatic wrote: "OK, so as you all know I'm currently reading The Highlander's Bride. I started it yesterday afternoon and I'm already at 90%. I'm loving it, but there's a BU..."
Good, Noreen. When you've read it please let me know what you think. At this point I've gotta wonder if it's just me, or if the premise was really so stupid! Ugh. I gave the book 3 1/2 stars and rated up to 4, because I honestly enjoyed it...A LOT. But every time the grandfather situation was mentioned I'd want to pull my hair out. Thank God they only discussed it a few times! When they weren't talking about I pretended it didn't exist. LOL
I think the author was influenced by Julie Garwood to a certain extent. There's nothing wrong with that. Garwood is one of my all time favorite authors of highland and medieval romance. I actually liked some aspects of HIGHLANDER'S BRIDE more than I did Garwood's THE SECRET, and that's saying something!
For one thing I really loved the heroine. Yes, she was physically perfect, just like Judith in THE SECRET, but girlfriend had a temper on her! There were times when she had to restrain herself from stomping her for like a child. I actually thought that was kinda funny. God knows there's been plenty of times when I've been so mad I've had to hold myself back from throwing something!!! LOL.
Yet for all the good parts, the h's reasons for hiding her grandfather's identify made no sense to me, especially after she agreed to marry the H. At one point she says--or thinks--that she didn't know that her grandfather was the laird of a powerful clan, she thought he was vulnerable. I hoped she didn't mean that she didn't know he was a laird, because she'd been to visit him often as a child when her mother was alive. There's no way she couldn't have known that he was a laird...that his clan was powerful maybe. I decided to go with that premise, but the way it was presented it could've been taken the other way too. Sigh
BTW thanks for the list. I'll check it out. And I think it's awesome that you changed your review. I'll have to check it out. LOL

I understand, EB. It's probably been awhile since you've read it. I liked it a lot. It just had a couple serious plot weaknesses which were unfortunate. I haven't read the reviews to see if anyone else was bothered by the same things that I was. I know there was at least one reviewer that gave it 1 or 2 stars and pretty much trashed the book with an unfavorable comparison to Garwood, which IMO wasn't fair. But to each his own.

Hey Kate it sounds like you had quite the eclectic collection of books this weekend. You're all over the place! Thanks for the tip re Storycartel.com. I'm definitely gonna sign up with them!
We're having some terrible weather this weekend. Two storms back to back. We keep losing electricity on and off. Gotta love New England! How's the weather down there in New York?
Glad to hear you enjoyed INTIMATE. I loved Vincent and Grace too, especially Vincent. Yes I hear you, the premise of the story was a little far fetched. The father and the evil potential suitor were a bit too evil, but other than that I loved it! Well she could've tried to lose her virginity anther way too, but I was ok with the way it was done, considering how close Grace and Hannah were. BTW, Hannah gets her own romance in a subsequent book, with a vicar of all things. ROTFL. I don't remember the title of the book, but maybe it should be, THE FANCY LADY AND THE VICAR? LOL
I'm almost done reading Fragments of Grace. It's my first book by Le Veque. It's pretty awesome, but really different from the standard medieval romances that I've read. I think she makes get characters more real, more flawed. The men are stupid, the H cries, the h is a typical medieval woman. She's uber beautiful, but she has a low pain tolerance, she she's emotional, etc. But when it comes time to make hard decisions, she's calm and level-headed. Her mother stitches, even while they were under siege, locked in a bedroom, with men outside the door trying to break in!. ROTFL The h's older sister, reminds me of Kate in Shakespeare's TAMING OF THE SHREW...not really swish, just blunt and outspoken. They're just so real and not always in a good way.
The H lost his family in a siege three years earlier. He found his wife and daughter's bodies partially burned, but have never found his two year old son. His mind kind of fractured and it took him over a year to be restored to full mental health. Now he's functional, but cold and distant. When he first meets the h, he is immediately drawn to her...well after she stopped banging his fingers with a block of wood and trying to gouge his eyes out! LOL. Anyhow, he's scared shitless by his feelings for the h, and initially tries to ignore then and her, but of course he can't. He soon succumbs, and the two are set to marry...this is no, I'm still pining after my late wife story! There's a man who's wanted to marry the h for two years and will stop at nothing to get her, and that is where the intrigue to the plot comes in.
What I really love about the book is how vulnerable the H is when it comes to the h. This man cries with no shame. I think it's so realistic that he would be terrified of losing her, considering how closely associated he is with grief. Of course the book is not perfect.
It needs an editor for one. I don't know if the book was released in paper format and then digital and errors occurred when they converted it, or what, but there are a number of mistakes that are noticeable and jarring. There are other things with the story itself that I didn't care for, but nothing too terrible...and I can't really remember them right now. I'm about 80% in and it's a four star read for me.

EB, did you see that Naughty Girls has another book up for review? I saw the post on the reviewers message board. It's another contemporary. Really, I don't know how many reviews I'm going to be doing for them, if all they have are contemporary romances. I rarely read contemporary romance books, one every few months or so. I don't think I can tolerate reading too many back to back. I guess it's too soon to tell, though.

Yes Noreen, there are a few sets of three or four medieval romance novels that are currently available for .99 cents. They all include books by Le Veque as well as other authors. I actually got FRAGMENTS OF GRACE as a freebie several months ago, as well as two other of her books. They all sound good!
I also just picked up another set of 4 books, 2 of which are by Le Veque, for .99 cents. The other two books in the set are by Suzan Tisdale, who is not a favorite of mine, yet still the set was more than worth the .99 cents price tag to get the Le Veque books, which are each sold separately for $4.19! That's funny, I clicked on the link in your comment and turns out it's the same set I just purchased!
Here are the other .99 cent sets...

Yes, FRAGMENTS OF GRACE is awesome! The H loves the h so much, you can actually feel the emotions coming off the page as you read the book! And he definitely is NOT pining for his late wife. That marriage was an arranged one. He and his wife grew to love each other and had two small children. They were 4 and 2 when the family was murdered. He realizes that his love for the h transcends anything he ever felt for his late wife, and that does make him feel a wee bit guilty, but there's nothing he can do about it and so he just carries on. He's strong, smart, fair, and an amazing warrior, but shameless cries when the h is hurt. So romantic! Sigh
OK, you guys are really cracking me up with these FUR GOD vs. FLEA GUY comments! ROTFL We should write our own book where the two face off over a woman. It will be one of those books like the one Kate read this weekend...fun, but stupid! LOL

LOL

Yes exactly, EB! I gotta have me a duke, laird, or knight at least several times a week. I can't do too many corporate CEO's or the like. LOL Did you see the book they have available for review?
Reading for Storycartel.com sounds less stressful. You download the books you want, read at your leisure, write your review, and submit the way you normally do, whether on Amazon, GR, or wherever. That sounds a good deal better to me. But, like I said, it's still early days yet with Naughty Girls.

I checked out the site, EB and they do have historical fiction and romance novels, as well as children's books, and other types of genres. It's quite a collection. Looks like you simply join, download the books you want, and then write reviews and submit them where you normally would--for instance on Amazon. I signed up, but I didn't see any books I'd want to read right now. There is one children's book that sounds good, but I don't think my daughter would be interested...it's for fans of Harry Potter, which I am. But I read too many children's books nowadays to the kids to want to read another by myself. LOL

ROTFLMAO! I hadn't even realized how that sounded but yes now that you mention it...LMAO! I was referring To Beguile a Beast. I don't know if anyone got it but the book called The Heart of Hannen is about a mauled H so I thought it may be of interest to you Kate. I got it myself. Just another book on a huge ass pile. LOL

It certainly isn't the story that every girl dreams of but it would certainly be good for some laughs. We could use that magic lotion to clear away that matted hair. I seen where that same author wrote a book about Thor but I'm afraid she'll ruin the image that Chris created. LOL!

Yes and because he's a god he probably tastes better than normal people. He's probably like filet mignon compared to fish sticks.
OMG! You guys are terrible! Haha BTW I just finished writing my review of that book I read...HER PURRFECT MATCH. I liked it, but I think the h slept with the H way too quickly, not to mention agreeing to have his cubs (he's a tiger-shifter, remember?) Anyhow, I had to re-think that one, because I realized that if Thor (aka Chris Hemsworth in his gorgeous godly persona) were to show up on my doorstep, I'd probably agree to have his little god-babies in zero seconds flat! ROTFL
Yes EB, FRAGMENTS is yours when you're ready. I'm at 92% right now, and it's exciting as hell. This book is full of sieges, sword-fights, etc. The author really creates a realistic picture of medieval times. I mean she even describes the H's condition after he'd been at war for a couple of weeks. He left to rush to the h's side after he hears she was injured. He's described as filthy and smelling of sweat and dirt! The author doesn't dwell on it, thank God, but I like the fact that she made it so real. I mean after weeks at war, not bathing, constantly fighting, killing people, and wearing the same clothes, of course you're gonna stink! Haha
I'm at a really good fighting part now...it's a siege. I had two other books by this author, Spectre Of The Sword and To The Lady Born and today I just got two others in that four book set I bought, The Savage Curtain and The Fallen One. I think I'm gonna read THE SAVAGE CURTAIN next. That one sounds good! It's the third book in the DRAGONBLADE TRIOLOGY. FRAGMENTS is part of that series too, though I'm not sure where it fits in...it's either a prequel or a sequel, because it sure isn't one of the THREE books in the trilogy.
It's not the prequel either. I just checked. There are three books that are listed as books one, two, and three, then another that's the prequel. Now I count FOUR books in a TRILOGY. Plus, FRAGMENTS is listed as part of the DRAGONBLADE series, so that makes FIVE books in a TRILOGY! Can anyone help me out here? I could've sworn trilogy meant three? LOL

Aw, EB! You've got me tearing up. LOL I know what you mean though. Now I don't have to bother my husband as much when I read. I used to bitch, moan, and complain to him when there was stuff in a book that I couldn't stand. Now I do that with you guys. Aren't y'all lucky? LOL
BTW I've changed my mind about which book I'm going to read next. It's gonna be Le Veque's To The Lady Born. I think it's gonna be a tough read, though. According to the blurb, the h gets abandoned to the enemy by her brother when their castle comes under siege. When the enemy take over the castle, the h is beaten and raped by the garrison leader so badly, that one of HIS soldiers feels sorry for her and hides her away until the new garrison leader arrives to take over--which is the H. From a review that I read, the h is suicidal and tries to kill herself a few times. The H has to save her, but has no idea why she's trying to kill herself. Turns out the poor thing was pregnant from the rape by the former bastard. Before the end of the book there is a showdown between the H and the rapist.
BTW something that seems to be a standard in Le Veque's books is that she doesn't wait until the end of the book for the couple to fall in love. That happens fairly early and then they have obstacles to overcome. That was the case in FRAGMENT and seems to be the case with LADY. I'm off to enjoy my book.
Oh EB, I volunteered to read and review a paranormal book for Naughty Girls. If I'm gonna get stuck reading a contemporary novel, it might as well be a paranormal one. I just submitted my review to Alyson today.

Ya, I hear you. I decided to take the paranormal, because like I said, if I'm gonna read a contemporary I kind of prefer that it be a paranormal. At least I know that just about nothing in the story will be normal. LOL Yes, Storycartel.com sounds like a good option. Free books for reviews, with no pressure.
I started TO THE LADY BORN, and OMG! It's so good so far. He just arrived and has already saved her from killing herself once--before they've even met!

I hate the actors but love the story so far so I'll just overlook it if I can. The book I'm reading is called The Invasion of Falgannon Isle and it is putting me in the mind f Austenland. This lady is trying to find available women for 213 single scots lads. There are Mackenzie's, Grants and Frasers. It's funny because they keep pestering her on any interested candidates. It's starting out really cute. It is modern but my Scots are still there. I guess the only unmarried woman are either lesbians or twins in their 60's. LOL! Tough luck. Any way I'm not very far but it sounds like we will both have a lot to share.
Thanks Noreen it's really cute so far. Have you ever read or seen Austenland? I got the book and the movie and enjoyed both. I can see if it's a loanable if you ever want to check I out.

That's how I felt, Vampirate! LOL I rated it 3 1/2 stars, but rounded up to 4 because I really liked it. But honestly, I had to restrain myself from pulling my hair out. LOL The grandfather secret was just plain stupid! I hate when an author ruins a perfectly good story with a ridiculous storyline, or as in this instance a ridiculous aspect of the storyline. I mean she could've had any number of good reasons for not divulging her family's identity. In THE SECRET by Garwood, the h's father was laird of an enemy clan. It made sense under those circumstances that she wouldn't tell them who her father was.

Did I mention that the wolf shifter wears a magic necklace. Some say it was the prototype of the first flea collar. Who knows?I probably never told you but I've been named Queen of the Insomniacs five years running.
I just downloaded Medieval Warriors a 4 book set. Two Suzanne Tisdale which I have already read and two LeVeque. I haven't read Leveque before. It was free on KU. I was going to try Fragments but it was $3.99. I figured I'd try a freebie first and see if I liked her.

Yes that's the way to do it. I have three of her books that I got for free. The one I'm reading now I've had for over a year, to my shame...I've probably had all her books for that long. I never read her before FRAGMENTS either, which was quite good...4 stars for me. I'm liking TO THE LADY BORN even more.
I bought that set today, the one you downloaded on KU. I read exactly one Tisdale novel, which was a three star read for me--or maybe 3 1/2. I can't really remember now. The story was nice, but didn't really do anything for me. It was the first in the series that includes the two Tisdale novels in that four book set. I can't remember the title now.
BTW, Kate FRAGMENT is included in another set of books that sells for .99 cents...there are three books in the collection. Here's the link...

Might as well get three books for .99 cents instead of one for 3.99, even if you have read the other two.

BTW, I apologise for my familiarity, your Majesty. ROTFL
Can I just say I'm loving the way this author works. I'm only about 22% into the story and the H has already decided he wants the h. Le Veque's heroes don't mess around! Damn! I mean even the H in FRAGMENTS that had had his heart ripped out by the vicious murders of his wife and small child, didn't take long to commit to his lady. I like it!!

Not to change the subject but has anyone been on Amazon to read Kate's review on Intimate Deception? Their are several reviews below her review that are only 1-2 words. When you click on the persons profile they're all a colored square with the persons initials. I clicked on the abuse button and complained. The one named "me" has several reviews she or he has done that are 2-3 word reviews. I know that maybe it isn't upsetting to some but I'm seeing it more and more. I feel like it's a slap in the face to those of us who try to give god reviews. It could be the authors or publishing house doing it to create sales for all we know. Of course I wouldn't buy something based on those reviews. Mine are not perfect but if I hate it I at least take the time to say why and if I liked it I would explain that too. They don't explain or give any indication that they even read it.

Noreen you should so label your review Fur Guy or God. ROTFLMAO! That is such a good way of putting it. Love it! I thought I'd be able to start your book that you lent me yesterday. Sigh. I spent Thursday laughing with all of you and yesterday I played catch up but I still have some more to go. I'm planning on a Sunday attack. There's the contest on FB today and I'm helping my friend today with her final on Excel. She's almost done.
