Oh yes, I found it. It's The Hellion and the Highlander. The hero is a friend of the heroine's brother and is recuperating at their home. It was another LOL funny!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I’m gonna have to lay down I work tonight and the next few days. I started it last night and some this morning and then here this afternoon. Yes it’s really cute. There was one I think Kate told me about and I read where the h got caught on a horse and paraded on a horse naked. It wasn’t intentional I forget the whole scene but remember it was an awkward moment like this one. I think we all read it at one point. The h had some bad meat like someone was trying to kill her.

Hey, EB. I don't know what happened. I wasn't able to read for a couple of days, and by the time I finally got some time I was no longer in the Highland mood. But, I still hadn't finished my Sands book. So, I decided to read a couple of Regency novella's to get the reading juices flowing again. It worked, so now I'm moving forward with Sands An English Bride in Scotland. I actually managed to get through a few pages last night. Hopefully, I'll be able to finish it tonight. Not sure where my mood will take me next.

Hi EB! Oh my, I don't know why I didn't get an alert regarding these messages! And I usually get alerts EVERYWHERE! I mean via my Goodreads app on my phone, my kindle, AND via email. I'm just seeing it now because I decided to post a list today.

Anyway, I see that you've been up to your usual Super Woman stunts. LOL I finally finished with Ross and Annabel a couple of days ago. I loved it as much as I did the first time I read it. Yes the sister was a mess; I almost felt sorry for her because it was her parents fault she was so horrible. On one hand the spoilt her rotten, but on the other they constantly put her down comparing her to Annabel. How they could have done that I don't know, seeing as they knew NOTHING about Annabel. What horrible parents. Ross is a dream hero!! Just love him to death. That time when Annabel snuck out in the trunk and he discovered she was missing. His men told him that the trunk had dresses that was being sent to the seamstress who had stayed home sick that day. And Ross says to his men, "and you think your lady, my sweet Annabel would send work to the woman while she's sick?...I just love the way he loves her. Sigh.

Since then I've moved back to good old Regency England. I read a couple of unpopular Margaret Bennet novels. Finished her The Poor Relation, and now I'm reading The Hopeless Hoyden. Both of those books overall got poor reviews on Amazon, yet I loved them both. They are both re-reads for me. And the funny thing is I really can't say that anything the other reviewers said about them is wrong. They need editing, and the love came about rather out of the blue. Yet still, I love the author's style of writing. Anyhoo, I'm about to post a list. Chat later!

Good morning, ladies. Here is today's freebie list.

https://smile.amazon.com/Substitute-B...
This is an American novel. A mail order bride. H has been in love with h's identical twin sister for years. He moved away then wrote to the sister to propose. Sister does not want to marry the H, so the heroine, who has loved the H for years, goes in her stead. From what I read it does not seem that she tried to trick the hero.

https://smile.amazon.com/Unexpected-L...
This is a box set of three books. Two are post civil war set in Texas. The other one is a western.

https://smile.amazon.com/Daliah-Needf...
This is a wagon train story with religious undertones. FYI reviews are positive but a couple do mention there are a lot of grammatical errors.

https://smile.amazon.com/Spinster-Hig...
Highland romance but unusual in that it's set in the Scottish royal court.

https://smile.amazon.com/Godsend-Brid...
This is a full length mail order bride romance with a religious aspect.

https://smile.amazon.com/Sin-Temptati...

https://smile.amazon.com/Highlanders-...
Unusual highland romance. Heroine was blinded in a fire that killed her parents (her father was laird). The fire was due to treachery. She went into hiding and now works in a tavern. Hero (laird of his clan) is scarred from an explosion that killed his parents and his fiancee. They have an unknown shared past that comes back to haunt them. Anybody wanna guess that shared past has anything to do with the fire/explosion? FYI it's over 500 pages. Ah just read a review that explains....the h and H were engaged, but didn't know each other. The heroine is the hero's fiancee that supposedly died in the fire. Apparently the hero's parents were visiting at the heroine's castle when this explosion occurred. Needless to say there is intrigue in that someone is trying to kill the h.

https://smile.amazon.com/Sirens-Song-...

OK that's it for today, ladies. I hope you each find something to tempt you. Have a great day!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments The last highland read sounds interesting but 500 pages that’s a long book

Yes I thought 500 pages was a lot too. If It's really good the pages will fly by, though. I downloaded a copy. I also got a copy of the one set in the Scottish court, although I'm not so sure about that one.

I finished the Margaret Bennett book I was reading earlier today, The Hopeless Hoyden. Then I read a quick ninety page novella, and now I just started another Regency quick read. I'm feeling like I need to go back to the highlands though. Maybe after I finish this short story. It's only about eighty pages.

message 3976: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Lol Caron you are like speeding through these stories. I am reading undressing Darcy. It’s a modern based book about a man trying to save his family home in England. It’s fell in disrepair and will cost millions to restore to its former glory. The H who portrays Darcy wrote a book entitled my year as me Darcy and is now working with our h (his pr rep) to make public appearances and do signings amongst the unveiling. The h is taken In by his good looks and his estate. She also has this aunt who has dementia and has pending test results for olseimers. The aunt is my type person bc she has known this man for years while visiting England. The aunt is trying to play matchmaker as she basically raised her niece Vanessa. It’s really cute.

Wow! These P&P variations exist in every time period. lol

The book I read yesterday was only about ninety pages. The Mistletoe Mistress. Such a cute story!!! It's about a duke— by default as he likes to say since he inherited the title after his brother died—he's on his way home for Christmas and knows that his mother will have lined up a bevy of debs for him as possible brides. He wants nothing to do with so is dreading the holidays. The heroine's father died a few weeks before so now she's all alone in the world. She's trying to head to her old nurse's home, but runs out of money so the coach driver abandons her at an inn. The hero sees her sitting on her trunk outside in the snow and invites her in to have something to eat. Then he comes up with the crazy idea for her to pretend to be his fiancee. He is the sweetest hero. The two literally fall in love in like a couple of days, but I liked the way the author did it. His mother is a piece of work! OMG she easily wins coldest mother of the century award. As the hero says, a Siberian bear is warmer than she is. Anyway, that was a nice quick easy read.

Then I started The Governess Who Captured His Heart. That's only about eighty pages. I haven't finished it as yet, but I really needed to go back to the Highlands so I started The Highlander's Accidental Bride which is a re-read for me. I gave it five stars the first time I read it.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Oh my goodness ladies this book has me so torn. We have this Darcy poser he is true to the whole Darcy image. He is sweet and thoughtful and seems like every woman’s fantasy. But there is another H in this book and he too shares an interest in our h. What makes him more interesting is he has a brief history with Vanessa. He also has been striking me as more of the Darcy type. He does wear coat tales he is a jack sparrow twin. I don’t know why but me darcy(Julian) is a dream but he seems more like he’s playing a role. He has no faults or so it seems but he doesn’t show a fire side in fact he is almost too perfect. Now this pirate(Chase) has spirit and sadly Vanessa just broke his heart a bit. She is obsessed with posting updates and such and Julian is Darcy ready with proper manners and perfectly tied cravet and she is zooming when she sees something out of the corner of her eye. Chase has witnessed the whole thing and has shown his fire side with a proper sit down so to speak. I had to share bc I am rooting for Chase aka Jack Sparrow.

OK, I did read that back in 2015 and gave it 4 stars. I have read so many hundreds of books since then that I didn't remember it. I do remember the title just didn't remember if I read it.

message 3989: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Caron, I’m wondering if it’s going to replicate Darcy vs. Wickham. Wickham was the con artist and smooth talker a too good to be true golden boy. This is how Julian is sort of appearing. Than you have Chase. He is charming, witty and a flirt but in a down to earth sort of way. It comes across in a natural way where as Julian he is well read in Austen in the history of British attire. He quotes Austen and he eats up the attention from the ladies. This was not Darcy. He hated large crowds and women fawning all over him. This guy he doesn’t miss a beat he knows how to work a crowd to get the right response just like Wickham. He is a wolf in sheep’s clothing I think. Chase seems genuine in his interest and makes our h laugh. She admits she hadn’t remember laughing so much as she did while sparring off with our pirate friend and yet she is getting sucked into this false image I fear Julian is hiding behind. Manipulating our poor Vanessa and slowly pulling her in.

message 3990: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Sheila, just read your review it was very well written. I just wrote Caron going in I’m thinking what you did. A wickham vs Darcy scenario. Now I guess I have rethink or tag along until it’s revealed because your review hints of a different turn than I was thinking. I at one point wondered if they were the same person bc they were never appearing at the same time. Hmmm. Ok thank you you for your opinion on the book you’ve given this girl more ideas to toss around.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Caron I think you are resembling an addict that fell off the wagon. Lmbo. You have went so long without you’re grasping out for quick fixes and variety. Lol. The book does but while it is funny and suspenseful I agree with Sheila. This girl has put her job in front of all else and now two guys are vying for her affection and she is back and forth depending on which one she’s with. She has only shared fantasies and kisses so far but I do miss her focus on one true love. Sigh

I've read it before. Sigh. And I still have yet to finish my highland romance AND that other short regency one. Smh

Hi EB! Yes, we read Marked. That was an awesome book! Please stop reminding me of the amazing contemporary books I've read. I cannot add another book to the repertoire I'm reading. 😂😂😂 FYI I have the next book in that series, Targeted in case you'd like to borrow it. And I have another book of hers from another series, Singed.

I've been re-reading a lot of old favorites too. I think since I haven't read in such a long time I jumping around from one favorite to another and sprinkling the occasional new book here and there. BTW I cleaned out a ton of books from my Kindle. I had over two thousand and now I'm down to just over 800! I deleted anything with overall low ratings, plus any book with a storyline that I realistically don't think I'd read. I also found a bunch of books I'd already read; some of them I hated! I have no idea why I didn't delete them when I finished. Anyway, I of course kept some favorites. 😁😁😁

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Honey I think I bought a boxed set and have multiple ones too. Lol. I am committed to this book but the h has disappointed me. I’m at 68% so I need to finish but it is agonizing. I think my gut was right with Darcy he kept telling her how he wanted her blah blah blah and in a weak moment they had sex in a bathroom on the 95th floor. She was committed to his enjoyment but he was only in it to win it. She woke up the next day he leaves her this vague bogus note and left for England. She has spent a week looking for some sign that it is meant to be and has took off to England in pursuit but hasn’t had the chance to surprise him. What’s worse is Chase has sent her these big beautiful cabbage roses and a card asking her he was worried. She was in a car accident after Julian left and has never called or anything. I hate that the author had her have sex with him and I hate that the author chose her to be a wham bam thank you maam. Then a door mat by jumping the pond to chase after him. I like my couple to be so crazy for the other they couldn’t think of being with another. Poor chase volunteers to play jack sparrow for sick kids birthday parties and is so considerate to her feelings and wellbeing and she’s just oblivious. Ugh
