With all you've listed I think many of us would not need to "buy" a book for the next year....or even two, as some don't read more than 40 or so per year. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Sheila. Yes my Amazon purchases support my children's school. But, I don't think that that applies whenever anyone else makes a purchase using that link unless they have their own charity. I'm not sure. 🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️🤷‍♀️ It is amazing how many free kindle books Amazon offers on a daily basis. I've found a few treasures among them over the years and some new favorite authors.

Hi Liz! Those cookies looked sooooooo good! They just about made my mouth water. lol I certainly hope you get to slow down soon. I've been going a little crazy myself. With the kids homeschooling sometimes I feel like I'm back in elementary/middle school. 😢😢😢 Anyway, I am managing to eek out a little time to read so it's all good. I finally finished Wallflowers. I am sorry to say that it wasn't as great as I was hoping. It started out awesome, but by halfway through I wanted to slap the heroine more than a time or two. I actually put the book aside for a few days and read a couple other novellas before going back to finish it. I still haven't written my review as yet.

Hi Kate! Yeah, I'm trying to get back into it. It's nice to be reading again! I don't have nearly as much time as I used to but it's good to spend at least an hour with a good book each day. I hope you found a couple of freebies to tempt you. I posted a list on Monday too and some of those books are still available.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Well I began reading the royal companion by Tanya bird. I confess in my rush I only selected it bc a good ole Scottish book sounded appealing. From the first page the heroine had me wrapped up in her tale. I always flip to the last pages to make sure I don’t waste my time. Well I did not do this until recently and I’m 25% in. I did research and now I’m learning there are 3 books to find out Aldaras and Tyrons ending. To me it sounds reminiscent of the twilight series. You have the meeting and love blooming but book 2 sounds just like New moon. She’s separated from Tyron for her safety but pining and the 3rd he is captured and beaten and it sounds like she tries to save him. I just wondered if any of you had read the 3 books and if they’re worth all the torture. I am not a fan of long drug out love romances. I’d confess I’d rather see the movie it’s not so hard to endure. Lol

Oh no! That's that freebie I posted on Monday. I hate when that happens!!! I wish they'd make it clear in the book description that it is not a standalone. Ugh. Sorry, I haven't read that book. I didn't even download it. And thank God. I have no patience for a three book series! I have soooooooo many books on my kindle that I only download the occasional freebie. I could read for about five years without buying another book. lol Right now I'm re-reading an old favorite, Isle of Lies by Donna Fletcher.

I have over 100 on my Kindle unread.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Oh I remember that one! I ended up starting highland secret by Kerrigan Byrne. I’m at 34% I’m liking it. It’s a short read and I think is has a conclusion. Again I did not look but with it’s length I’ll be okay. Kate you may enjoy this one bc the Heroin is mute. Evelyn is a seer and is on her own. I have the bridal shower tomorrow so I don’t think I’ll make it all the way through. I’ll keep you all posted. Take care

Like yours, some of mine I’ve had for four/five years. I took a break from reading for a while and am just getting back to it. And now that I’m reading again I’ll read a new book and then go back and re read an old favorite. I don’t think I’ll ever get through the books I have now. 😳😳😳😳 And even with all the books I have sometimes I can’t find anything to read that appeals to me. 😫😫😫😫 It’s like having a hundred television channels. 😂😂😂😂😂

kate | 203 comments You know me well Elizabeth. Downloaded Highland Secret immediately. Love the strong silent types. Probably my favorite mute heroine book was Without Words by Ellen O'Connell. A western which I'll probably read after secrets. Thanks for the tip. Its been awhile since I visited the highlands

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Sheila which p&p book is that? Brenda Webb has done similar in an honourable gentleman. Lizzy is catatonic the first part of the book. I believe there’s another where Lizzy is injured from a horsing accident before meeting Darcy. One of my all time favorites though is Catherine Anderson’s Annie Song. Regina turned me on to her and I have enjoyed that book a few times.

message 3873: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Kate is Ellen O’Connell the author and it’s called without words? It’s weird in the book description of highland secret it said it was originally called without words. The hero in this book may be big but he seems gentle. Love that the only thing is we have yet to hear what he’s thinking it’s Evelyns thoughts we hear. Her name is Evelyn Woodhouse lol. She’s English come to highlands for a reason we don’t know fully yet but the whole time all I can picture is Jane Austen’s Emma lol

Yes! That was the book I was talking about, Annie's Song. I remember you talking about it while you were reading it and how much you absolutely loved it! LOL Never Seduce a Scot is one of my all time favorite Highland romances. The heroine, Eveline, is a deaf/mute. Well she's not actually mute, but she never speaks, at least not initially. The hero is laird of an enemy clan and the two are forced to marry. Everyone in her clan thinks Eveline is daft. No one knows she's deaf. I've read that book twice cover to cover.

A belated good morning, ladies. I hope everyone's weekend is getting off to a good start and that you will all find some precious time for reading. Here are a few freebies available on Amazon today. I apologize if there are any repeats.

https://smile.amazon.com/Wild-Moonlig...

https://smile.amazon.com/Kissing-Enem...

https://smile.amazon.com/Earls-Winnin...

https://smile.amazon.com/Sensing-Dang...
This book has paranormal elements. The h has "abilities" that she uses to protect the H who someone is trying to kill. Her family is sworn to protect his. Here's a little excerpt from the description..."Legend says the Sinclairs heightened senses are a result of a long ago pact between them and the powerful Raven family. To Honor and Protect is their creed, but the current Duke of Raven doesn’t make their task easy."

https://smile.amazon.com/Gentleman-Wh...
The hero is forced to marry for money because his parents are left penniless and he needs to care for them. The h is a widow with a young son and needs to marry to safeguard her son's inheritance from his uncle. One review says it's a strong heroine, with a kind and sensitive hero. Glowing reviews.

https://smile.amazon.com/Second-Chanc...

https://smile.amazon.com/Bear-Grass-S...
This one is a two full length novel "box set."

https://smile.amazon.com/Dukes-Bride-...

https://smile.amazon.com/Bruces-Angel...

https://smile.amazon.com/Dress-Season...

https://smile.amazon.com/Chance-Histo...

https://smile.amazon.com/Wicked-Kiss-...
Ooooh this one sounds like the Regency version of the movie Clue. lol I grabbed a copy of this one for myself.

I think that's it for today. Be sure to grab anything you find of interest. Some of these books are only free for a day or two and then they're gone. I see that Highland Secrets is no longer free. Enjoy!

Good morning, ladies! Happy Monday! Here are a few freebies available today. I hope you find something that whets your reading palates.

https://www.amazon.com/Dare-Scandalou...

https://www.amazon.com/Viscount-Vixen...

https://www.amazon.com/Hathaways-Inde...

https://www.amazon.com/Blushing-Blue-...
There are no reviews for this book. The first book in the series has a four star rating, but no actual reviews. The heroes are brothers, orphans who grew up in poverty. Presumably they are now successful but as of yet have not managed to break into the cream of London society. Honestly, I can't even tell what time period the story is set in. It's also a novella; the page count is listed as 59 pages.

https://www.amazon.com/Sleeping-her-H...
This book also does not have any reviews. But I did check the author's page and, she's written several other Highland romance novels and they all have high ratings; 4 1/2 star and above average.

https://www.amazon.com/Duke-Misfortun...

https://www.amazon.com/Mystery-Missin...
This one might appeal especially to Liz and Sheila. It is a prequel variation to P&P. It's styled as a P&P mystery, but it does have a romantic aspect. FYI it's a novella; page count is listed as 69

https://www.amazon.com/Second-Chances...

https://www.amazon.com/His-Ring-Bride...

https://www.amazon.com/Miladys-Chambe...
This is the first in a series of regency mysteries profiling main character John Pickett who is a bow street runner. In this first book he meets his lady love. However, from reading the blurbs for other books in the series, it seems he and Julia (the heroine) don't actually end up together, so I'm not sure how the romance plays out in this book. Maybe it's more mystery than romance? In each of the following books they reconnect so it seems their relationship is an ongoing and developing one. But the issue of the difference in their backgrounds is a major obstacle. Julia is a member of the nobility.

https://www.amazon.com/Passage-West-R...

https://www.amazon.com/Never-Lawman-W...

https://www.amazon.com/Seven-Nights-S...

https://www.amazon.com/That-Healing-T...

This is another P&P variation.

Well there you go ladies! Have a great day!

You're welcome! It's nice to be appreciated. But I have to say that I do enjoy doing it. I finished reading Angel of Skye yesterday. It was my second time around. I loved it just as much as the first time. I'm now reading another McGoldrick novel, The Dreamer. This is my second time reading this book too. It's been a while since I've read both, so there's a lot I don't remember about the story, which is great. I'm back into my Highland romances now. I just love my Highlanders. Sigh.

How'd the appointment go? Are you all a go?

message 3889: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments You are definitely appreciated. I am in the highlands too must be in the air. I’m reading knight in Armor by Amy Jarecki. I know I’ve read her before and enjoyed the book and am enjoying this one.

My sons appointment is still overwhelming me. So I know you have nursing background. When my son was diagnosed with crohns he was really sick. He had 2 holes in his colon and had the infection leaking in his gut. He almost died more than once. He’s had the ileostomy for 3 years now and is so much healthier than he was then. He came home with tube feed. So his surgeon reviewed the mri the what’s left of his colon has a very thick wall. They don’t know why. That leaves a small Chanel for evacuation and crohns naturally causes narrowing. This is not even mentioning the week it will take before his equipment starts flowing and the 10-14 days it will take that it’s sealed well. It also doesn’t go into the fact when he had the leakage all the stuff stuck to what is left. That means the surgeon said he will need to carefully pull everything apart and take out the part of his colon he removed. The reality of the 72 days we spent up at Akron Children’s hit me on the drive home and it’s something that you apparently don’t get over. My son doesn’t know if the risk is worth the fear of going through what he did last time. It breaks my heart bc he’s so young to have the bag. Ironically the paper had an article that today is national ostomy awareness day today.

Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies.

https://smile.amazon.com/Highwaymans-...

https://smile.amazon.com/Knowing-Your...

https://smile.amazon.com/Lady-Varneys...
From the reviews, this book sounds a little steamy. It's a novella with a page count of 102 pages.

https://smile.amazon.com/Life-Caberne...
This one is set in the 1950's. This is also a novella with 98 pages.

https://smile.amazon.com/Unmasking-Ap...
This one has a paranormal aspect. We're told at the age of 25 the heroine's fairy godmother gave her the power to change shape. So she's a "shapeshifter"??? lol Anyway, she assumes the shape of a man, leaves the horrible relatives on whom she's been dependent, and take a job as the hero's secretary. There is also a mystery in that someone is trying to kill the hero. Sounds interesting. Good reviews; almost a five star rating with over 900 reviews. FYI this is not a clean romance. One 1 star reviewer said it had explicit sex and cursing...which, apparently, is why she did not like it.

https://smile.amazon.com/Lady-Danger-...

https://smile.amazon.com/Bride-Price-...

https://smile.amazon.com/Stone-Devil-...
I'm not sure about this one. It has a good rating overall; almost five stars, but the first several reviews are 2s and 3s. The storyline itself is interesting. Heroine is scouring the slums of London trying to find the men who killed her father. Hero becomes aware and decides he needs to protect her. Complaints about the book were varied, but in general it seems it was too graphic, another said it was unpleasant. It sounds like some of the scenes were maybe a bit too "realistic?" for some readers. Not sure.

https://smile.amazon.com/Marti-Talbot...
FYI this book includes three novellas each about a hundred pages.

https://smile.amazon.com/Highland-Cap...

https://smile.amazon.com/Sheriff-Harn...

https://smile.amazon.com/Highland-Yul...
This is another novella.

That's it for today, ladies. Have a nice day!

I've been reorganizing my collections. I have them broken up into groups, by genre: Bristish Historicals, Contemporary, American Historicals, Celtic Historicals, Children's and so on. Each genre is divided into groups by title. I have four groups for my British and American historicals because I have so many books in those genres, and two Celtic. Only one group for Contemporary and the other groups. I checked the other day and I have over two thousand books! It's crazy! I am now going through, checking ratings, deleting books with low ratings and anything I don't think I'll ever read. And as for the freebies now, I only download the occasional book.
