Ooh good idea, EB! Cinnamon rolls are one of my favorite foods. Yummy!

Rach, don't worry about your lack of participation....there was about a five day stretch where I was completely absent. This summer has been super busy. It's more so than usual because my niece and nephew are here without their parents. So, it's up to me to take them out and about to enjoy the sights and engage in various activities. My mom claims she's too old for that stuff. LOL

Anyhow, we went to the beach today and after about fifteen minutes were told we had to leave. They closed the beach due to a nasty storm. Sigh. Oh well, we'll try again tomorrow.

That book you just finished, by Jillian Hart sounds pretty good. Too bad it fell apart. I've read several books by that author and have enjoyed them very much. One of my favorites by her is [book:Homespun Bride|2590975, which is about a couple who get a second chance at love five years after they are separated by the heroine's father. In the years they were apart, the h was involved in an accident and lost her vision. It's a beautiful story. FYI it's Christian fiction. As far as I know, JH usually writes that genre of books. Was COOPER'S WIFE a Christian romance too?

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Omg Caron you actually took the time with all that's going on to do the freebie list!! Idk what Kate says your awesome. Lol. I have reading the brightest star in the highlands by Keira Montclair is about Jennie who is Alex sister. You remember hunky, powerful Alex don't you RF? He is in this one feisty as ever and battle ready. Jennie is struggling as a healer and all the wounded and death that surrounds her. She is taken to the abbey and meets a handsome laird Cameron who is determined to protect his clan. It is different than her other books as Jennie is tormented by her nightmares of all that she has seen as a healer versus a raped or beaten h which is what is her norm. Jennie is sweet and thanks to her big protective brother naive of men. A anyhow I'm at 43% so I should be done soon

Oh man, of course I remember Alex. Yummy delicious! LOL So Jenny is finally all grown up huh? Sounds good. I'm about to start another regency, Viscount Vagabond. It was on our freebie list a couple months ago. As for the freebie list, I haven't been on Amazon in what? Weeks? I figured I had a few minutes today so I might as well see what was available.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I have a couple books I want to check out after this one. One is the one you just finished ( did you do a review) and the other is one I got from KS. I haven't been on there in a month. I've got like 3-4 books coming from them anyway so I'll let them catch up. Lol. Yeah Jennie is a healer and she sews up the laird Cameron. Alex took her back for safety reasons but now has two men trying to court her. The only brief thing I've seen wrong was in reference to a boyfriend. That kind of knocked me out of the time period but it was just once. It's a unique twist for KM not to have her h abused but you no Alex would never allow that. I'd say her others too but he is the family's main badass. Lol

Review? Haha! Heck no! Up until now I haven't managed to read, much less review. LOL TS is really good though...I'm assuming that's the one you're referring to? It's about a h and H who knew each other since childhood. The h has loved the H forever, but he doesn't even notice her really. She's his best friend's little sister. When the H is 18 he leaves home to become a fur trapper up in the wilds. His father is extremely abusive towards him and his mother so when the mom died--because of the father--the H left home. Years later, the h's parents are murdered. Her brother tells her that it's the H who did the killing and that he's going after him. He arranges for to marry a man she doesn't love and also sells the family's farm to him. The h sneaks and follows her brother. Of course, nothing is at it seems. Before they get to their destination, the h is kidnapped and the H ends up trading for her once he becomes aware that she's being auctioned off! He is super protective towards her. His big issue is that he believes he's like his father and will hurt a woman. His father was an abusive loser drunk...the H doesn't even drink because of that!

Haha that's so true about the "young blood" thing. LOL Yes, he's a fur trader. When she first sees him for the first time in six years he's all covered with hair, etc. But very quickly he cleans up and becomes the sexy man she remembers. Anyhow, at first she thinks he killed her parents, but then she begins to believe him when he said that he hadn't. He had gone to St. Louis for the first time in years, and did go to see them, but his real reason for being on her farm was that he had seen her from a distance and recognized her and was drawn to her. He couldn't resist going to visit with her family, then got caught up in that mess...I'll let you read about that for yourself. The thing is though, that when they do come face to face, he's been obsessing about her for months because of that one glimpse he'd caught of her a few months earlier. She, of course, has had the hots for him since she was about 13. LOL It's a great book as far as the protective alpha male aspect. They pretty quickly overcome the misunderstands and admit their love to one another, but then the issues with her family/dead parents, come back to haunt them and interfere with their happy life together. I loved it!

Elizabeth wrote: "Okay rugged mountain man meets infatuated younger girl. I'll check it out after I finish my book"

Haha Not so infatuated anymore when they meet. She's a little spitfire because she believes he's not the man she once knew. One thing I really liked is that they actually waited to have sex, even though technically they were married. According to the mountain customs, when he bargained for her that was tantamount to a marriage. LOL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Oh lord more strange customers. Remember the hand fasting? If nothing else these books introduce you to some strange customers. Mountain laws...ROTFLMAO! If you see a bear run like hell. That would probably help me survive about 3 seconds in the mountain world. If there isn't a 711 close by I'm lost. Those survivalist that filter water through sand and rock just to get a drink I am not. Wiping my ass with a pine cone I can proudly claim to have never done. Lmbo. Educational and romance we shall see if I can take the altitude. Lol. I'm sure it won't be bad if you liked it. ;)

I think you'll like it. It's a sweet romance and the h and H are both nice. The H is most definitely not a whore, and the h is no shrinking violet. She also is not one of those women who puts aside her pride and chases after the H like an idiot, but neither is she one of those overly tough types. It's a great story. The mountain stuff is just background. But yes, the marriage thing was pretty funny. That's just because they didn't have any preachers around. Don't worry though, he does marry her all legal and Christian like by the end of the book. ROTFL

BTW I LOVED the comment about using a pine cone to wife your butt!!! LOL

Rachel | 443 comments Hmmm I am always iffy with second chance romances. Does christian romance mean that there is no intimacy? Do you remember if the hero moved on during this time period of them not being together? I always hate it when the hero moves on but the heroine doesn't. Cooper's Wife was not christian, but western. It was pretty cute. I loved the kids, but it wasn't a fantastic read. :D

You ladies are funny! LOL

Hey EB! I'm so confused about the whole handfasting thing. Remember we discussed it when I was reading that one Highland romance with the H and h who handfasted and it was said that if they were intimate it would become permanently binding? I don't know the actual ins and outs of it, but I do know that authors have twisted things around to suit their various stories. So, at this point, I have no idea who is correct and who is using artistic license. LOL In any event, most books I've read that involve handfasting has it lasting a year and a day, unless the couple decide to remain together after that time. If any children are born to the couple during that period they are considered legitimate. HOWEVER, I think someone told me that the one story we discussed had the right of it...if the couple sleep together the commitment becomes binding. The handfasting was more of an engagement than a marriage.

Rach, the book I was talking about was a Christian romance, which usually means no intimacy before marriage and no details. In this case, the couple didn't marry until the end of the story, so no sex. The H and h were separated for five years. He only returned home because his family needed his help. The h's father was responsible for running the H out of town. He was very powerful and wealthy. His bank held the mortgage on the H's family's farm and the h's father threatened to call in the note early. No other women were referred to. He worked as a cowboy and rustled cattle, moving from one place to another.

Anyhow ladies, hope you both had a good day and will have a good night. We went to the beach today. It was wonderful. It was overcast, so we didn't have to suffer the effects of having the sun beating directly down on us. It did rain a few times, but we pretty much ignored it. Other than the scattered light showers, it was a perfect day!

message 3621: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 443 comments Thanks for the information RF! I think I will probably pass on that story for now, but with how it sounds if it's christian, the hero shouldn't have been with other women during that period of time so that should be a plus! LOL

Have a great weekend guys!

Hi guys. Here are a few freebies. The first is a regency romance. It's one that I read...it's been a while, but I remember liking it. It might be one that you already have. It's been on our freebie list in the past. The second book is a western novella.

http://smile.amazon.com/This-Kiss-Vic...

http://smile.amazon.com/Desperate-Nov...

http://smile.amazon.com/Times-Enemy-R...

http://smile.amazon.com/Heart-Gold-Ru...

http://smile.amazon.com/Claiming--Med...

http://smile.amazon.com/Loves-Christi...

http://smile.amazon.com/Sheikhs-Daugh...

http://smile.amazon.com/Hearts-Under-...

TIME'S ENEMY sounds like a thrilling time travel romance! Just be aware though, the second book in the series has the same H from book one, so it seems the story continues in that book.

SHEIKH'S DAUGHTER is a CR novella.

That's it for today, ladies. Hope you all find something that you like. TTYL! Today is my baby girl's 8th birthday. She woke me up with her sniffling at 3 a.m.!! Coincidentally, that's the same time she woke me up eight years ago. LOL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I was beat yesterday after the museum. It was spectacular. My god all the walking and fun their was to see. Then we saw Spy. OMG you guys have got to see it. I laughed so hard it wasn't even funny. The lady that played Tammy was the main lady and she's the eyes and ears to Jude Law. Oh and she's in love with him ( can talk blame her) but he's an idiot and doesn't see it. Takes her for granted so anyhow Jason Stamantha who played in Transportator and expendables plays in it. He is hilarious bc he acts like some super spy but isn't. Lol. I'm telling you if you need a good laugh it's a good movie to put on your list. So I got home after 9 and crashed bc I had to get up for work at 6. It's a short shift so I'm done now. I started TS and almost half finished. It's pretty good I like the cast but I miss my England and Scotland. I think I'll be heading that way soon I'm not sure I just got another book from KS so I may read one of those next. How about you ladies whatcha reading. I lost track. Rachel id you take too many swings at the piñata. Lol. Vitamin B12 does wonders for energy. Lol

Hi EB! Glad you enjoyed TS. It's was a pretty good read for me too. It was sad about the ending; but that nicely sets up the next book which features a romance between Alex and Evie's son and Whispering Water's daughter, Sophia.

I got inspired by your trip to the museum. Bri took a week off when we get back home, so I'm going to take the kids into one of the museums in Boston. I absolutely refuse to drive into that city, so it's best done while he's off. LOL We're also planning on taking the kids to Story Land, which is a theme park in NH.

You got school shopping done?! I'm jealous! I'll have to do that next week when we get back home. Before that, however, I have to finish planning Hannah's bday party. We're having it at Michaels...the kids will be making fairy houses. LOL

I'll have to check out the new CH movie! We watched the first Avengers movie the other day...umm umm yummy! ROTFL

How ya doing, Rachel? Have you recovered from the hard partying you did at that two year old bday party as yet? ROTFL!!!!

message 3633: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I hope you have as much fun at the museum as we did. The kids were sad for it to end and I wanted to take them to an aquarium around there but it was too pricey. :(

Yes I've noticed that the covers on a lot of the e-books are recycled from one book to another. It doesn't bother me as much as it does you, but I certainly don't like it. It also makes things bloody confusing! Especially when the author keeps changing the cover of the book. While I was searching through the freebies yesterday, I clicked on a book that I thought was a new one only to discover it was a book I'd read forever ago, only now with a new cover. We certainly never had that problem when books were published on paper!

Our aquarium is pretty pricey too...the tickets are one thing, not too bad, but not great either. However, it's the parking that's ridiculous! Parking prices in Boston are way off the flipping charts!!!!

Rachel | 443 comments Ugh that bothers me too! I hate when I see repeated covers REPEATEDLY hahaha!!

message 3636: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Yeah old books updating their covers bugs me too. A lot of Lisa Kleypas books have changed covers to where I thought it was a new book. Lol. I'm reading Winter Peril it is a KS book it's pretty good so far. I'm in the mountains again in a snow storm. It's CR and a woman gets stranded with s complete stranger. There is also a mystery bc the mans wife was killed or is dead and he wants to find out what happened. I just started it so I'm not real sure what happened to her yet. There is a twist to it and I know what it is bc I flipped to the end and it's a cool twist. BTW ladies my husband went to his dr yesterday and the # his dr looks at concerning his kidneys is looking better. He said it still needs to get better but it is looking good and he will not need to go to a specialist.

Hey Rachel. It looked like you had a fun girls night out. LOL. I have been searching for a good P&P variation that fits my taste and I have a splitting head ache. If they weren't too short it was Elizabeth being married to Collins or both previously married. I even saw one that had Elizabeth married to Wickham. YUK! Thanks for the input about OUTLANDER, Rachel. I read a number of reviews and so many of them had tons of comments. Clearly people who read it felt strongly on both sides--pro and con. For me the big turn off was the fact that the heroine was married when she time traveled and met the H. I didn't like that aspect of the story at all. That coupled with a few others things mentioned by other readers decided me against the books. I tried watching the series on television, but didn't care for the actors portraying the characters. And a virgin hero is not one I particularly care for, and Jaime was that! LOL That, however, was a super minor issue!

Hey EB, sounds like you're having a hard time finding a P&P variation that suits you. I remember we've had a lot of them on our freebie list in the past, but most of them weren't very appealing to you...if I'm remembering correctly. I'll keep my eyes open for a new one and will send you the links for any good sounding ones that I find.

FYI I'm heading back home tomorrow. This week will be pretty busy once I get home; I have a couple of doctor's appointments and Hannah's bday party is on Saturday. But come next week I should be around more. Hope you all have been having a good summer so far. TTYL!
