Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies for today. This first one I'm not too sure about. The title is ridiculously long, for one thing. Anyhow, it's a short story; a highland time travel apparently. According to the title it is a new adult, romance, comedy short story. It's a mouthful. In any event, I've seen this title a few times over the past few days and figured I'd include it today in case anyone might be interested in it.

http://smile.amazon.com/Time-Travel-R...

http://smile.amazon.com/Holy-Poison-M...

http://smile.amazon.com/Last-One-Tril...

http://smile.amazon.com/My-First-Jaso...

HOLY POISON is a medieval romance set during the time of King Edward the VI and is centered around a period in history when Protestants and Catholics were being persecuted; one set by Eward, the other by his sister Mary Tudor, who succeeded him to the crown. In this story, the h, a protestant marries the H, a Catholic who elicits a promise from her to adhere to his faith; a promise that becomes difficult for her when the Catholic Mary Tudor ascends to the crown and begins to purge England of the Protestants, including the h's family.

THE LAST ONE is a contemporary romance about a h who is about to graduate college and a slightly older H who has missed out on his youth due to his parents premature death. The two first meet when the H rescues a passed out drunk h and her friend who are stranded on the side of the road. Not a great first impression. LOL Later they meet again when the h is assigned as a student volunteer in the H's town and his family is the host family that takes her in for the summer.

MY FIRST is another contemporary romance about a h and H who are childhood friends and who get a second chance at love when the h returns to town for a friends' wedding. The H and h used to be best friends; the h blew town after her then boyfriend's funeral some ten years earlier.

That's it ladies. I hope you all find something on the list to whet your appetites. TTYL!

Yes, me too. I already had the last one on the list. It's a second chance at love...sort of. The h and H were best friends before she fled town. The other one sounds good too. The h is a party girl; the H a serious man with big responsibility. I have a feeling he may have become responsible for younger siblings when his parents died.

Yes, thank God that did not happen during your shift. That would have sucked big time. Hopefully he is at peace now and I pray that his family will come to accept his passing. Enjoy your walk. I'm heading out the door to do a run now. Luc is home; no school because the electric company had to turn off the lights at his school today for some reason. Anyhow, I told him last night we'd run today and he's been plaguing me all morning!!! There's no way I'm getting out of this one. Sigh!

I don't know how "safe" they are, but if I remember correctly in all of them the H wants the h back, but she's hesitant. I like that plot device! I'm not positive about that, but I do know that that is the case in the third book, for sure! I checked and they are all still free.

Me too, but I'm still reading that SUMMER one. The American western. It's good, but a bit slow. It's set on an Army base. The H is a lieutenant. The h is visiting her sister, who is married to the H's friend and fellow officer. There's a gang of stagecoach robbers and a couple other things occurring on base that does add a bit of intrigue, but it's still slow going. I'm in the mood for a second chance at love too. One where the H is determined to get his woman back! LOL

message 2969: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Yeah this one is kind of slow and the h is a bit of a ditz. She stands up for herself which I like but she doubts the H too much. I'm being patient bc I know the other one I read by her followed a similar pattern until she surprised you by totally backing him up. I think this will be a three star for me though. It has good points I like it the thoughts she gives her characters feel juvenile for me. The H's past with other woman gets brought up too much for my taste. He sees the h in trousers perched on a horse and he gets turned on. That I'm fine with but than he thinks maybe I should visit his first from the brothel or the widow who has offered herald to him and than he thinks immediately no it's wrong I only want Audrey. It is phrased differently in a way that reads adolescent. It takes away from the image of a strong secure man for me. There are other instances but that one is one example. I don't think showing various woman wanting him and brief reflections of them before adds to the image I want in my H. He believed himself in love with the whore who broke him in at 16 and he thinks about it not graphic but it put separation and the romance suffers bc he spends equal time with his job then the h.

I hear you. I like my H to be focused on the h; not having wishy washy thoughts. LOL Why is he thinking about his first woman? Does he still have a soft spot for her? And the adolescent overtones would probably annoy me too. I would expect the h to be naive and maybe even immature--although I don't care for that character trait--but, not the H. I'd think he'd behave like a fully grown man. Especially seeing he has such extensive experience with other women; he should know what he wants now and STAY FOCUSED! LOL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments He is a solicitor and he had to do it secret so his dad wouldn't know. His dad was the heir and had to focus on the heir and spare. So when Jordan was 8 his father made it clear he would have plenty of $$ and could whore around. When he was 16 his dad took him to Ageliques establishment and she tutored him. He believed himself in love with her until he was 20. He's 31 now and he fell for Audrey then M poisoned her opinion of him bc she believed he visited her bedroom at a house party. The following morning however it was not Jordan but Lydell. That is her husband now and as it turns out he lied and in the darkness of her room posed as Jordan to get her. He has told her repeatedly that it was him she is whacked out.

Anyhow Jordan's job first calls him save a widow who approaches him bc her sons fortune is being gambled away but bc of his past everyone believes there's more. The second is at the brothel where his past teacher works and they need help with the brothels future. When he first sees the widow he remembers how they had an affair a yr ago the whore he remembers his love he believed was there. Then at the end Audrey does not understand the doll. Remember I mentioned his half sisters doll well she believes he has a daughter. He then thinks well he should be offended but after all the countless affairs he could have lots of kids but he took very serious precautions to stop that from happening.

I just don't think it needs to be repeated and then I feel the level of emotion just isn't felt. The writing is so that it feels detached. It's like he says I love her but bc his job interrupts their story and M it leaves hardly any time for the build up. She did add when shared kisses he tasted like cake. It became a joke and was cute. I just wish there was more of that and less suspense, lost siblings, job details

Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies for today. This first one is a repeat freebie. It's a regency that begins during the Napoleonic wars...which is where the H and h meet and have one time liaison. They get separated; the H has no idea who the h really is. Some six or seven years later they are reunited; the H discovers he has a daughter.

http://smile.amazon.com/Never-Mistres...

http://smile.amazon.com/Mail-Order-Br...

http://smile.amazon.com/Dare-Desire-L...

MAIL ORDER BRIDE - MONTANA RESCUED BRIDE is about a h who becomes a mail order bride. I'm not sure what the story is really about because the book blurb seems to focus on the fact that the h was kidnapped by a gang of criminals and the H has to save her...will he be able to? FYI it's a novella of almost 60 pages.

DARE TO DESIRE is another second chance at love contemporary romance. The H is a former football star; the h a social worker who he hurt in the past and now wants back. It's part of the Dare series, but is a standalone romance.

Anyway, that's it ladies. A very skimpy list today, but hopefully everyone will find at least one book that appeals to you. TTYL!

Good morning, ladies. Here are a few freebies today. This first book is a set of ten EXCERPTS that involve governess romances. I'm not sure why anyone would want to read an excerpt of a story, but I guess it could be a good way to get acquainted with an author's writing style. In any event, I'm including it on the list because, 1. it's free, and 2. although I don't want to read it, that doesn't mean that one of you wouldn't love it.

http://smile.amazon.com/Governess-Rom...

http://smile.amazon.com/Miss-Moseley-...

http://smile.amazon.com/Mail-Order-Pr...

http://smile.amazon.com/Montana-Bound...

http://smile.amazon.com/Texans-Irish-...

http://smile.amazon.com/Cooking-Chris...

http://smile.amazon.com/Western-Roman...

MISS MOSELEY is a repeat freebie. It's about a h who is asked to matchmake for the man she "thinks" she's in love with; a man she has been friends with since childhood. But then another man enters the picture and now the h isn't so sure about her feelings.

MAIL ORDER PROMISES is another mail order bride romance. It's the second book in the Montana Mail Order Brides series. We recently had book one, MAIL ORDER REGRETS, on our freebie list. In this one, someone unspeakable happens that results in the h being shunned by her family. She escapes to Montana to become a mail order bride to the H, who is a blacksmith. The H has a hard time trusting women after a bad past experience; he has decided to give love one last chance and all he wants is a woman he can trust. But the h has a secret. There is also mention of someone "watching" the h.

MAIL BOUND is yet another mail order bride romance. In this story the h goes west as a mail order bride after being left at the altar. When she arrives, however, she discovers that her fiance is dead. The h is invited to stay as a guest by the H's sister. The H has a sweetheart back east and is ecstatic now that his widowed sister has attracted a suitor. However, the arrival of the h is wreaking havoc with the H's peace of mind.

TEXAN'S IRISH BRIDE - in this book the H is trapped into marrying the h by her father after the H is seriously wounded saving the h from kidnappers.

COOKING WITH LOVE is about a h who is seeking adventure. In her quest she travels west to become a "Harvey Girl." Harvey House is a restaurant and she works there as a waitress. The H is a widower who is the chef at the restaurant. FYI it is described as a Christian romance.

OREGAN KISSES is a set of four short western romance stories--and I do mean short. The book is listed as having 115 pages, so each story can't be more than 20+ pages.

Well ladies, that's it for today. It's a western fest! LOL All but two of the books listed are westerns. TTYL!

I never read CLAIMING, but I did read another book in that series, AWAKENING. It's one of the other sister's story. There are three in the series. I started another American Western...an inspirational romance. I don't know, but I've been in the mood for westerns the last couple of days. But that mood keeps warring with a need to read one of the second chance at love CRs. Anyhow, I've been wanting to read this book for a while, so I figured I'd give it a try now.

It's about a h who is accused of murder; but she has no memory of the incident. Her sweetheart is a U.S. Marshal who has been away working for five years. He's back now and intends on clearing her name. I'm only about 12% in, but it started with bang! LOL

I totally understand! There's been plenty of times where I'll pick a book as the next one to read, but will not get a chance to start it until later in the day because of my schedule. When I finally get to it, I'll find that my mood has totally changed. It's frustrating as heck, but what can you do? I liked AWAKENING when I read it; it's been a while though. Yes I liked it a lot. That sister is now widowed; she suffered through a horrible marriage so wants nothing to do with marriage again. She's the sister that was in love with a knight when she was younger. I think the sisters talked about it in the prologue of the book that you just finished reading. Her father refused his suit and he went away. He wasn't a suitable parti because he had no lands, etc. You know the deal. Now he's back....for her, among other things. But she's been so mistreated that she cannot conceive of being under the rule of a man ever again. I really liked this one; wish it were longer though. I just sent it to you.

FYI ladies, I just discovered that all of Kathryn Loch's books are available for .99 cents on Amazon today! If you haven't read any of Ms. Loch's books, and you like medieval romance, then you are really missing out!!! Without a doubt she is one of the best medieval romance authors I've ever encountered. I've also read one of her Highland romance books; while I didn't love it like I do her medievals, it was still worth a read. EB is you wanted your own copy of BLIND IMPULSE, BY ANY OTHER NAME, or any of the others you read, now's the time to grab them. Regular price is $2.99.

HEART'S RANSOM is the book before HEART'S WAR. They can be read as standalones, but you're better off reading HR first. It's also, IMO, the better book, and I really think one would would enjoy HW much more having read HR first. There's also her Highland romance books too that are on sale; I haven't provided links to those.

Here are a couple of freebies that I found. The first one is a contemporary romance. The h and H are fellow college professors. The H wants the h, but the h has a policy of not dating colleagues. The h also has a secret; she is working on a computer program that can rewind time.

http://smile.amazon.com/Once-Again-in...

http://smile.amazon.com/Aarons-Story-...

http://smile.amazon.com/Heart-Stone-A...

http://smile.amazon.com/Dancing-Eleph...

http://smile.amazon.com/Mark-Love-Lau...

http://smile.amazon.com/Dutch-her-Goo...

AARON'S STORY is the second book in the War Leader trilogy; we've had books 1 and 3 on previous freebie lists. It's a medieval romance.

HEART OF STONE is a romance with a bit of fantasy intertwined.

DANCING WITH ELEPHANTS is a romantic suspense set in the wild west. The h lived a blessed existence right up until the time she married an older, wealthy gentleman and discovered he's a monster. She flees to the west where she finds romance and adventure. I think the book is set during the early 1900's.

MARK OF LOVE is set during the 1980's and is about a h who has a large birth mark on the right side of her face; a discoloration. Her mother has hidden her away all her of life because of this mark, and she has grown up in the shadow of her beautiful sister. Can anyone say major self-confidence issues? And can you blame the poor thing. She finally gets a job where she meets the handsome H, but decides to set him up with her sister, who she thinks is more compatible with him. The h and H get involved in some undercover work at the job--something to do with uncovering an embezzlement plot. Presumably love blossoms between the two. FYI I read a few pages of this book; it looks to be an inspirational romance. There's a lot of reference to God even in the few pages that I read. Furthermore, at some point in the story the H gets engaged to the h's sister. It also appears that the h was involved with another co-worker; someone she thought she better deserved--poor baby--but who she never loved, of course.

DUTCH JO AND HER GOOD TIME GIRLS is a story about a Madam and her "girls" as they travel to and settle in the West. I'm not sure if this is a romance.

That's it for today, ladies. I don't believe there is anything exciting on today's list, but hopefully you will all find something to whet your appetite. TTYL!

Yea I agree RF everything seemed blah with the list. I'm sure the authors would love to hear that after all their work but still. I'm going to be leaving for work soon and wanted to grab a few minutes to say hi. My dad stopped in for a bit. I finished Claiming and really enjoyed which is odd bc nothing really happened in it. Their is no villain except the H in the beginning I guess could be considered one but their is no suspense. It's just a straight out romance with the H trying to convince the h she can trust him. The love scenes are hot and there are two full ones. They did make mention of the sisters bad marriage in this one btw. I got book 3 from my email so thanx for that.

Haha You're a mess, EB! You and your villains. A straight romance just doesn't do it for you, huh? ROTFL! I'm glad you liked it. AWAKENING was a bit touching, I thought because of all the h had suffered. She just couldn't conceive of getting married again. The H makes a big gesture of love at the end, that was quite touching.

Nothing on the list really grabbed my attention today, either. Oh well, that's life. I got the Loch books I wanted on sale, so I'm happy. BTW how's your Dad doing?

The h Catriona is in love with Branana, he was sent away to foster with a neighboring family. The H/h grew up together and Branana has every intention of returning to marry her. The problem is her father signs a marriage contract with this other man and then is murdered. She ends u[ marrying him but I don't think they have a chance to consummate bc the keep is attacked and the new husband actually is a good guy he is just caught in the middle of this love triangle. It was a weird experience for me bc I couldn't hate him even though I wanted her to be with the H. It all works out but it is the journey that through me for a loop. I ended up getting all four but I saw a mention of a fifth book. They are all stand alones at least book 1 was and the other Loch books I've read were as well. I like her writing even though she can make her characters a bit dramatic I still love them. Thanks for the heads up RF

I have the first MIST book too, but I haven't read it as yet. I read book 2, which for me was a 3 1/2 star read. I just didn't love it like I did her Medieval books. I also got book 4 as a freebie so I went ahead and piked up the other MIST ones that I didn't have. I plan to read them all; maybe book 2 was a fluke for me. I find that I don't particularly enjoy books where the h is a dedicated healer. Weird I know considering my background as a nurse, but oftentimes the healing takes up too much of the story.

That's what happened in DEMON LAIRD. It's a well written book and overall the story was good, but aside from the healing another thing I didn't like was the fact that by the end of the book there were unanswered questions regarding the h's heritage. I supposed we might learn more the answers in the next book, but I didn't like that at all.

I'm not liking what you're saying about book 1 either. LOL Did the husband die? Is that how she gets to end up with the H in the end?

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Yea my dad said he thinks its all out of his chest now. His aneurysm was at a level that is not medically necessary for a surgery. They will recheck him every 3 months. I will have you know Miss Pescatore that I gave Claiming a 5 star review. LMAO. I am growing up so fast ain't I? I did so bc when I began to write my review and I wanted to highlight my likes it occurred to me that there was no villain or battle. It was just a straight up budding relationship. It stunned me that I was content without something major taking place. The characters were likable and the sex was hot what else was there? LMAO

Yes he sacrificed himself to save her. That is why I couldn't hate him bc he really did love her but she is in love with the H not him. She loves him but not in love. It's been a while but after they are wed he talks with her when they are in the bedchamber and that is when I really started to like him bc he was so kind to her but he just picked the wrong girl. He deserved better and in the end died for following his heart. That's so tragic. She does end up with the H it is just getting there and I think now that you know its not returned affection or consummated it may be okay. I guess your just going to have to make that call on your own.
