Okay let me explain. They are at the Gathering. He's doing his thing. He sleeps with a woman. Later he sees the h. He goes to her and says to her "come wi me." He then walks off, but she doesn't follow. A few days later he is at her keep to sign a marriage contract, but she doesn't know why he's there. They don't see each other then--well they do, but only through a window. After he leaves her father tells her about the betrothal.
He then comes back a few days/weeks later--I can't remember exactly how long it was--and they get married. After the marriage feast he takes her back to his clan. His parents, brothers, etc leave. They do not witness the consummation, only the other clan members. Anyhow, when she freaks out about the consummation, he tells her he's always wanted her. When she remains unconvinced he says to her, "remember at the Gathering when I came and asked you to come with me? Not an hour earlier I had just tupped the Widow F, but when I set eyes on you I was hard again. That is the effect you have on me." I'm paraphrasing of course. LOL So, he slept with a woman at the Gathering BEFORE he asks for the h's hand in marriage. And we only hear about the woman after the fact--after they marry--and only because he is trying to convince the h about his feelings for her. The woman is not an issue. She's not a character; we never meet her. I don't know if that makes any difference to you, but I hate scenes with the h or H with another man/woman.
It's crazy how the woman chase him around. They go crazy when he takes his shirt off etc. And it's a little heart-wrenching that in the beginning of the story the h has no idea that the H wants her. FYI they marry about 20% into the book.

LOL I really think you'll like it. I know your triggers re this issue is a bit more sensitive than mine, but I think I have a pretty good feel for what sets you off. I don't think this will be a problem because the woman isn't an issue; we never get to meet her. FYI he tells her he loves her as he takes her innocence. I thought he waited until after. He's such a dolt. I don't know why he didn't just tell her that in the beginning. Men! But who knows, maybe she wouldn't have believed it.

This does bring me a little out of my comfort zone being that the hero continued to whore around after initially meeting and wanting. The heroine, but with the way it's written, I'll be okay I think.

Yes I thought about that. That aspect doesn't bother me, but I know it does you. I have problems with other women after the H and h get together. He definitely has other women after he offers for her, but considering he thought she was promised to another there really wasn't anything to be done. And again, none of this is really expounded on. The story is just too short to dwell on anything, so in a way that's good.
He tells the h he decided to move on because he figured being a chieftain's wife was nothing compared to being a Duchess. I think he was twenty-three when he offered for her and she was only 15. He said that he was willing to wait for her to grow up, but her father dashed his plans. Now he's almost thirty and she's 21. She has no dowry; he takes her for herself. Her father is completely broke at this point. FYI her father is an English earl.
I know you wouldn't like the second book in the series. That one involved adultery; it wasn't focused on, but I didn't like even hearing about it.

Yeah I definitely won't read book number 2 lol!! I am definitely more sensitive because I don't like ow period much less after the hero and heroine meet for sure.

LOL I know that about you now. Haha It's nice when we get the issues we each have with books; it makes it easier to recommend appropriate books. Yes book 2 was an issue for me too, even though the adultery was merely mentioned and the author tried to make it palatable. The book was definitely good; the clan's rituals are funny and weird. But I rated down for the adultery; although I did admit to that in my review. That way if that's not an issue for another reader they can take that into account when reading my review.

Yes I have had trouble with Amazon. I was in the middle of a chat and had to go work so I don't what the deal is now. I'll be here until 9 and I'm going to go back to reading now

Hey EB I hope work is going okay. So you haven't been able to get the loan situation straight, huh? I remember once when I loaned a book I put .co instead of .com. When I contacted Amazon they told me what the problem was and the rep canceled the loan so I could resend it. I forge to whom I was sending the loaner; you or Lark most likely. Anyhow, someone else I know had a similar problem but they told her she'd have to wait the 7 days for the book to be returned if the loaner wasn't accepted, which is BS. Just thought I'd mention that.

I loaned a book some time back and it's not taken out of loan status and now with this other one it just wouldn't go through and now it shows it was returned. I am just so issued bc I'm afraid ill be charged.

Who did you lend the first book to? It's supposed to be returned 21 days later no matter what; and 7 days if the person you sent it to never received/downloaded it. It sure sounds like you've been having issues. I guess you'll be up with Amazon tonight. Ugh! Glad to hear work is going well. I just got home from clothes shopping with my daughter. We had a girls afternoon.

The HEIRESS one? No I haven't. I actually have the book on loan from the library now and intend to read it before I have to return it. That couple is really cute, aren't they? I'm glad you liked MARQUIS. JQ is one of my all time favorite authors!!
What's up for you to read next? I haven't started SPLENDID as yet...shame on me! But I'll let you know when I'm reading it whether or not it's safe. If I remember correctly it is perfectly safe; JQ usually is, but I can't swear to it right now.

I am not sure what I'm going to read next LMAO! I have several Catherine Anderson books on my list as well! I may get an ARC to this book -
and if I do - I know I'll read it. I freaking love that series so damn much!
Okay here is the link Rachel. http://www.amazon.com/Fifty-Ways-Kill.... I should finish it soon and will post my review. The thing is they are only in this boxed set so I will have put it all there but instead of getting credit for 10 separate reads I'll get credit for one. Oh well.

Hey EB, are none of the books available outside of the boxed set? If they are you can post the individual reviews for each book as well. That's what I usually do if/when I read a book that's included in a set.

BTW EB, did you get the problem with Amazon fixed. I just realized something; I was updating a subscription I have on Amazon and they now allow you to indicate whether or not you'd like to use GC and/or promotional balances towards the purchase of a subscription item. Whatever you choose at the beginning continues for the life of the subscription--I assume you can change it in the future if you'd like.
I'm super happy because I always hated it when a subscription item was due for shipment and it would take my GC balance, which I keep for personal use--my hubby gets all over my case when I use it for household stuff. Anyhow, just thought I'd say. I'm not sure if anyone uses Amazon's S&S service.

RF I checked before I started reading and the stories did not show up under the authors only in the box set. As for GC I had $30 left and I ordered some total control when I did it was taken from my GC. I spent four different times trying to have it changed so I still had my GC and the amount would come from my credit card. I like to use the GC for my books. Twice on my laptop and twice on the phone and the stuff arrived which it supposed to be cancelled and no balance on my GC. This last lady assured me that the third party salesman would send me shipping instructions it would happen no later than Tuesday. Well it's Sunday and o just gave up. If I want I'll by a GC and get fuel perks from giant eagle and it it back on. I just won't order anything but books from now on. It's just stupid bc I clicked and checked to use only CC and not GC but no one can tell me why it was taken from my GC. Just like we do t know why my lent books were caught in limbo but a nice rep fixed it when I talked with them last night. I responded a couple more times on my review and this rose85 responded with a guilt treatment. Lol. I think that was the author. The white rose is the trilogy I bet if you looked she was born in 1985. Anyhow I am done responding the witches can tear it apart or not I've said my piece. Lol.

So even though you checked not to use the GC it did? That's not good. I do that too whenever I make a purchase for something other than books or music. I'd be pissed if that happened. When you go to the checkout page I click change next to the type of payment...it will always show a credit card, but when you click change if you have a GC you will notice that the cost is being taken from the GC. I then uncheck the box next to the GC and that usually takes care of it. At least it has so far.
I'm glad they took care of your loaned books. Did they say what the problem was? I'd just ignore those women. But I will check out the latest comment. You think it's the author, huh? That would not be good if it were.
What happened to the days when authors were professionals. I mean when you write a book don't you know that some people are going to hate it, no matter how good you think it is? It's expected; at least the author should expect it. Nobody can write a book that will please everyone. It just isn't possible. If you can't handle criticism, then get out of the business. I know some people can be harsh in their reviews, unnecessarily so, but still, you just have to learn to shrug it off. It's part of the business. Same is true for actors, musicians, and others who put their work out there for the world to see; some people are gonna love, some are gonna hate it. Learn to deal!
I'm reading His Indecent Christmas Proposal. I'm of two minds; on the one hand it's very well written, but I'm not particularly caring for the way the H is approaching the h. She is a governess in his brother's household and the H's conduct is outright harassment. Right now he just proposed she be his mistress; she slapped him in the face. LOL

Don't be disappointed I couldn't keep quiet. These bitches are getting petty and I can be just as much a bitch. I didn't want to drag you ladies in it. Aspoon is backing me up. She's so funny. I made a comment that now seemed a weak thing to say but I was hoping it would stop it and that was when the guilt treatment started but when I didn't respond I guess at that point dance 27 felt she needed to have her say and that bitch is going down. I know it's ridiculous but I don't care.
RF your still not ready for Spendid? I get that way too. I own Annie's Song so I will make my way back just wanted to enjoy some others first.

Haha I get it. Believe me I do.
No I'm not ready for SPLENDID. I don't know what's going on with me, but I lost my reading momentum and have been looking for something to get me back in the game. I figured I'd try something short then move on SPLENDID. That's why I started reading SINFUL CONFESSIONS, but it wasn't cutting it--not that the book isn't good, but it just wasn't giving me the inducement I needed to read. I decided to try INDECENT this morning; the storyline was calling to me. LOL Anyhow, so far it seems to be doing the trick. I'm about 60% in. I think I'll be able to finish SINFUL before taking on SPLENDID. At least that is my hope. LOL
The H is finally redeeming himself. I have to admit I was feeling a bit uncomfortable with his pursuit of the h. Not because he was being obnoxious, but because I know that as a governess she's helpless; I was seeing things from her point of view. He tried to kiss her and stopped immediately when she asked him to, but then another day he did it again. He just can't help himself, but realizing that she was fearful the first time he approached her, this time he was very gentle--not that he was rough the first time, but I think you know what I mean. This time she responded, but when he offered her carte blanche, she slapped him. He's now decided he must have her, so marriage it will be. LOL BTW his brother, her employer, is cognizant of everything that is happening. Apparently the H told him he wanted the governess. When the brother discovered it was not for honorable means he made it clear to the H that she was under his protection. So, I'm feeling much better about the story and about the H's behavior. He's the type that likes to rile her up. He thinks she's wound too tight so he teases her. LOL

Hey it's sunny for the second day in a row. Lol. Another Larry is down and the next sounds funny. We shall soon find out. I didn't realize you never finished sinful. Sometimes you need a break but then I usually write down what I know so when I go back I can keep things straight. That's what I've done with the ones I'm reading. It would be real easy to forget whose who. As for Splendid I can relate Elizabeth Hoyt's book was on my currently reading forever and I still haven't read it but I will when the time is right

I'm good with SINFUL. I just started it yesterday and intend on finishing it today, so I should be able to keep all the characters straight. At least I HOPE I can. LOL It would be pretty bad if I lost track in two days, but with my mind lately anything is possible.
Well it sounds like you've gotten a whole lot of enjoyment from the LARRY books. LOL

The one I'm dying to finish now is about a girl who is betrothed to Larry but she is in love with his cousin. Well Larry isn't ready to settle down so he fakes his own death. She is now engaged to the cousin she is in love and is going to break it off bc she loves him too much to torture him by marrying her. It is the way the author writes that I love. Her name is Susan Gee Heino. Good stuff.

I'm sorry, but did you say she's about to break off the engagement because she didn't want to torture her fiance too much by marrying him? LOL And Larry pretended to be DEAD? ROTFL
I'm reading Coupling of the Chieftain. I just got to the part where the h finds out they will have to consummate their marriage in front of the entire clan. Poor thing passed out! LOL

One thing I forgot to mention--I'd forgotten actually--is that the dialect with which the characters speak is very strong. Sometimes it takes me a moment to figure out exactly what they are saying. Anyhow, he's trying to convince her that they need to do the consummation. The crowd is getting restless and they have to have the deed done before sunset. She asks him why he chose her. She wants the truth. He tells her a part of it, but she remains unconvinced. So he figured, what the heck? She wants the truth so the truth she shall get and propriety be damned.
That's when he tells her that "Ye're the only lassie in Scotland could mak' me hard just by lookin'. And no' just the once. Every Gathering, there ye'd be, and my cockstand kent it each time." Then he continues with "And if ye need further proof, I may tell ye this - I found ye at the brids no' an hour after I had tupped the comely Widow Firsythe. And still I thocht my cockstand would be evident to the world when I set eyes on yer. Very soon, ye will find out the importance o' yer effect on me."
So that's a direct quote from the book when he tells he h about his assignation with the other woman before he saw the h and thought to once again ask for her hand. See what I mean about the heavy dialect?
I'm 62% and still no sex, but Lud this book is making me laugh at times! LOL These people and their crazy tradition! The Bard tells the story of how the tradition got started so you learn the history behind it.

Yes I did it was cute. I am now moving on with one by Deb Marlowe. Did not we read something by her b4.she sounds familiar but I can't remember. Oh god Hannah Howell does the bedding ceremonies and I love them. I read one where the h was mad at the ladies scoring out what her man had to offer and he was mad at the lecherous eyes on her curves but neither had admitted caring for the other. It was called only you I believe. Great read and an awesome villain Kate. He is the H bastard brother but oh is he ruthless. Oooh I forgot how good I thought that one was.
Sounds good RF and that dialect is fine bc in my mind it helps you to hear as though they are saying it. Shoot do know how long it took me when reading HH to know what Ken meant. I thought she had grammar issues and then I pieced it together by sentence context. Lol. I don't mind it.
The HH book was called only for you. I really liked the H bc when she had a big old prego belly she thought it would turn him off well it had the opposite effect and it just made him so much sweeter. You guys remember feeling that way? Another thing to look forward to Rachel. Your horny as hell...sometimes. When your ankles swell and your get tender not so much. But there are those moments and if the man on that cover wanted to ravish me I hell yeah. Lol

Hahahaha that is hilarious, EB! Grammar issues? LOL But, yes it can seem that way can't it? I know some people hate the dialect. It doesn't bother me either; almost makes it seem more authentic. Takes me back to the highlands.
They are about to do the deed now. His father had told him to make it quick and then make it up to her later. All he has to do is break her maidenhead, let the clan see her blood, then ejaculate...yes girl, they've gotta see his "spend" too! LOL However, Adair can't stand to see her hurt and knows that if he breaches her and then continues on until he comes that she will be hurt even more. He also thinks that taking a virgin that way is no good example to set for his clan. He thinks Elisa deserves better, so his strategy is to prepare her first--foreplay--before he proceeds. The h is absolutely terrified. Not only must she give up her virginity in front of the clan, she has to be naked to boot. Oh and they are on a stage of sorts; it's an arena type atmosphere. I don't care how sexy he is, I think I would've headed back home immediately. LOL

I'm sorry, but I absolutely CANNOT relate. Both my pregnancies were HORRIBLE. Nausea and heartburn the ENTIRE NINE MONTHS!!!! OMG! Sex was the last thing on my mind. Ugh! It was the worst! I was even put on bedrest for a bit with my first pregnancy. By contrast my deliveries were a breeze. Twelve hours labor with my first daughter--and she could've been born a easy two hours earlier--and five hours with my son! I'm not sure which would have been better--easy pregnancy, or easy delivery. What I WOULD have preferred was easy delivery AND pregnancy. LOL

So does she know about the ritual or is that going to be new to her too? Sounds like a good one. I'll probably read that one next after this boxed set. I agree the ascents help make it real like CH's ascent makes him sexier. I think that is what appeals to me about Jane Austen the way she phrased her sentences just captivated me. It was like who talks like that but you couldn't look away. Jane Eyre too. I never read the book but the movies and the way she'd say do you not want be friends than sir. It just transports you to that time
I was opposite you. Both boys I had to be induced. My first was 24 hours my second was 5 hours trying natural which then turned into an emergency C section but my pregnancies were relatively easy ones.

Girl she knows NOTHING! She doesn't even have a mother so the little she knows about sex she was told my the elderly housekeeper. You can imagine how that went! The first time she sees the H's manhood tears fall from her eyes! LOL Anyhow, her father signed an agreement in which he promised to tell her about the tradition within a day of the marriage contracts being signed, but he didn't. The H finds out when she fainted at the beginning of the ceremony. LOL He tells her that the entire week his mother had been fretting about why the h hadn't sent for her, because she would have been the one to help prepare the poor girl.
Anyhow, the h is really shy and a bit timid, so the father didn't want to take the chance that she'd balk and refuse to marry the H. They really, really need this marriage alliance for the protection the H's clan can offer her father's people. BTW she's the only child so she is heir to her father's lands.
Girl I'm cracking up. The H thinks to himself that his cockstand had sprung to life when he'd seen the way the h was dressed for their wedding and it stayed that way until it fainted along with her. ROTFL Traditionally there are women who help the h undress and groomsmen who help him, but he is changing that tradition and undressing his own woman. Girl the crowds are allowed to shout out and cheer whatever they want and the two must put up with it! Can you imagine? The H wants to protect the h, but there isn't much he can do. Anyhow, I'm off the read the rest. Yes, please read it after.
Oh BTW in the interest of full disclosure we do learn that he has other children prior to the marriage. The Bard tells her that the H must release his spend so that the clan knows that he is capable of producing children--that is his part of the ceremony. She must show she's a virgin; he must prove he's fertile. The Bard says to her "mind ye, that is no' in doubt. He calls them his wee cough-drops, them few bairns he has seeded around the village already..." The h isn't surprised by this fact; as a matter of fact we are told that she would have been surprised had it been otherwise. Just thought I'd mention that. I know that Rachel is already outside her comfort zone with this book. I didn't want there to be any surprises.
Yes I agree. JA's writing is what I've always considered "formal." The manner and speech of the characters is very true to the time and the culture.

True, but I've heard about women in labor for two days and other such crazy times. But then again, there is an epidural. LOL And both my kids came a few days early. Believe me I was worried they were going to be late!

Have you ever seen the movie What to expect when your expecting? It is hilarious. When the one mother is in labor she says no I don't want drugs. The labor pain progresses and she tells her husband I've changed my mind I want the drugs. He's like no you told me not to give in. She then grabs hold of his shirt and ind a deep voice says give me the juice. I was rolling. Earlier she's this spokesperson for this pregnant event and she just tosses her prepared speech out the window and says gare bear I love you but sometimes I just want to punch you in the face. It is so true to all the hormonal changes. They try to be supportive but nothing they do is right bc we don't know what want. Thanks about the warning bc I do hate that but I think with the heads up it will soften the blow or by blow.

By blow! LOL That's a good one! Ya I don't like that kinda thing either, but honestly everything is so brushed over that it doesn't have time to offend. I also think that I'm more open minded because this is an erotic romance rather than a straight one...a definite double standard. I remember reading this one mention of the H having illegitimate children in one of my romances and it cast such a pall over the story. It was a reread and I didn't remember noticing that the first time around, but then again it had been a number of years since I'd read it--more than 10. The other thing is that they make it so natural in the story; it's an accepted thing and it doesn't bother the h any, so that helped.
Yes I wanted drugs. I was VERY clear about that from the very beginning. By the time I arrived at the hospital and had been settled in my room and they checked me I was already 8 cm dilated! When I told them that I wanted my epidural they told me that they didn't know if they'd have enough time to get it to me! I almost cried!!!! Luckily there was an anesthesiologist in the unit who was getting ready to go into a c-section, so they grabbed him and he started it. That slowed down my labor some and they left me alone because my doctor was out of town...on her way to the Orange County Fair. LOL She was halfway there when she got the call so had to turn back. Then when she arrived she told me that I was ready to push, but Brian needed to go park our car--he'd left it up front when we arrived. Anyhow, she slowed down the epidural and waited for the effects to wear off a bit before she had me start pushing. That's why I say I could've had my daughter about two hours earlier.
With my son I had no time for anything. I got there got my epidural and went to work. Five hours from start to finish. I think I got to the hospital about 6 or a little after; he was born two hours later. That was nice! But then again, my daughter has always been the more difficult of the two. LOL
I never saw that movie, but it sounds hilarious! My poor husband didn't know what to do. He was rubbing my back and I told him to stop touching me! I was soooooo bloody hot!

Girl you got to get the movie bc it shows how hard it is for a man to adjust too. It's got Chris Rock in it and he's the leader of the men that meet on the weekend he's got all these kids. They all go out to a bar. A parents night out and they're drinking and karaokeing. Anyway they are living it up and then the hour strikes 9 and they all start packing up bc they have to go home to their kids. It's just so funny. Jennifer Lopez is in it too and I loved her in it. She can't get pregnant and is adopting one its so cute. The girl that played in Twilight as the class valedictorian is in it too. Also the mother in law who's married to Goldie Hawns hubby is funny. She has a labor that is like nothing and wears a bikini at her baby shower. She's carrying twins too. It is really cute. I have to hurry up with my books. I am on book 9.
LOL!!! I don't think I actually saw that whole movie. I might watch it once I actually get pregnant. I am hoping to reap the benefits of being super horny LOL!! OMG RF - that books sounds good but I have a strong aversion to the heroes having kids with others too, so even though it's a quick novella, I will probably have to skip. I am only okay with other kids if it was from a previous marriage ... not from him just having unprotected sex with lots of females. I don't like that at all LOL!!! Forgive my uber pickiness!
I am currently reading ...
and then I think I might read ...
. You EB and my friend Maayan have been getting to me with these wonderful CA reads!!!! ;)
