Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Hey Rach! I can't remember which book by CA that was but it doesn't surprise me that you've read it. Lol. It was a great book though. The H was so sweet to her. Battling with his own tragedy and he puts it all aside for her and her baby boy.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments As suspected I looked at under his discretion review and someone negatively voted for it. Mind you that every other review is 4-5 stars and all helpful votes. 5 out 5 ...etc. but mine bc I wasn't a positive reflection get false votes bc I was honest. It is nothing personal I was kind in my comments and could have been a bitch and I realize the author has had a rough past. Yes I won a GC from her but does she want to become a better author or just squeak by with people who feed her crap? Your never going to get better if you don't accept negative constructive feedback. But I guess it's better to have lies spelled out. Well no I am a fan who bought your book and as I said Keira Montclairs goon who attacked me I would not bother if I didn't like the work she has put out prior. I know it must suck to have it in your face but I was respectful.

Yes the book we read with Flea Guy was THE MACKINNON'S BRIDE. LOL. I didn't think GR would allow u to rate a book twice either, but maybe that was two different editions? It shouldn't matter, but maybe that was it. I'd give it 4 stars, not 5... I'm talking about FOG BTW. I think the 5 star rating was a mistake, and I later amended it to 4.

EB don't give those people another thought. UR entitled to your opinion. I've been there, being the only one to not like a book. It only seems that way because so many people don't bother to leave reviews... especially if they don't like a book or didn't/couldn't finish it. Wait until more people start to read and review it... People who aren't friends, family, or who haven't been solicited for their "honest" opinion. LOL Then the truth will come out; and I'd be surprised if there aren't more complaints about the same issues you had with the story. Unless of course people read your review first and are warned ahead of time.

Yes the curly hair does make him look girl-like. LOL We keep his hair cut short nowadays, but every once in a while we slack off and it gets a bit long before one of us gets him to the barber. Don't feel bad; you're certainly not the first to mistake him for a girl. I think Lark said the same thing the firs time she saw a pic of them. LOL

I check and for some reason GR allowed me to rate 2 different editions of FOG and kept both ratings. I may be mistaken, but I think the site allows you to do that; I'm not sure why. The 5 star rating was the first edition that I rated. I will usually leave a review/rating for the exact edition that I read, which is the 4 star one. I think I may have given 5 stars by mistake...well it must have been. LOL

That's kinda funny re the GC. LOL How are you liking LION HEART so far? I never read it; I don't think EB did either, but I do know that Noreen did. She read the entire series. LOL If I remember correctly, Flea Guy's story was extremely similar to that of the MacKinnon--at least the description of the two sounded very much alike.

Good for you! You've gotta let them all know that YOU'RE the one charge! LOL I haven't had a very good reading week; kids are home. Next week wont be much better. I'm gonna have to do some extensive cleaning as the entire family is going to show up for Hannah's First Communion. My parents are coming up from FL for a few days, and then of course all the in laws will be here too.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Damn phone. Lmao. Well I am reading 50 ways to kill Larry. It was that boxed set I told you about last week. It's so silly. Lol. I just finished Jane Charles book and it kind of leaves things hanging so my intent was to search the other books in the series. God it's so funny. Bc I was searching while listening to TV and just typed the tittle in before realizing I wasn't on Amazon. On my phone I went to my internet icon but it was already on this page and instead of me typing it where I should have I did it on here. Lol. Talk about embarrassing. Lol. Lack of focus. Anyhow that is why it is on here bc I wasn't paying attention. My life story I'm afraid. How was the zoo? It is sunny and going to be in the fifty' today. Such odd weather. I am taking the boys to the drive in next Friday so I can see Thor....I mean so they can see the Avengers. Lmao

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Hey last night a bitch on Amazon tried to discredit my review. I know you said not to worry but oh hell no! She wasn't rude but she did a review below mine and I'm like what?! The voting is all rigged clearly as the only helpful reviews are the 5 starred ones. I wasn't going to say anything but I was just sharing.

That's kinda funny. So which JC book did u read that left u hanging? I've read two of hers; HIS IMPETUOUS DEBUTANTE and that Danby novella, COMPRISED FOR CHRISTMAS. I really liked the DEBUTANTE one. CFC was okay.

Yes I'm sure you're taking your sons to see The Avengers, but I'm positive that YOU are going to see THOR!!!! I'm not judging; I'm actually jealous! My kids aren't old enough yet; actually my five year old would probably like it, but my daughter is at that very girlie age so she probably wouldn't. Not to mention the fighting would more than likely make her nervous. Sigh

The zoo was great, but the weather not so great. It was about 50 degrees, but it felt more like 30...The sun was in and out, mostly in, so it was cold as heck. At least it didn't rain. The kids had a lot of fun. I thought the zoo was small, but after Los Angeles Zoo, they all seem small to me. I'm tired as heck today though. I'm getting too old for this. LOL. I think I'm gonna chill at home today.

Tomorrow I have to go shopping for shoes for Hannah for her First Communion, and I might look for something for myself to wear. I'd go today, but my son is not very fond of shopping...he hates it! He's such a man. Anyhow, I certainly don't feel like going shopping with two kids, especially when one of them will be miserable most of the time.

Rachel, I hope you have a nice day at work! Make that money while you can because you're not gonna want to do all the overtime when you finally have your baby. Thirteen hours huh? God love you! BTW r your shifts eights or twelves? I used to work twelves in the units, but PACU was eights. I only worked PACU on a per diem basis so I never had to do call. When I moved to California, I worked at an outpatient surgery center for a year in their recovery room. It was easy and fun, and pretty fast paced. They NEVER had any call and the shifts were eight hours.

Anyway, I'm watching a documentary...one of those true crime ones about an ex wife who gets her husband murdered. I'm a fan of those types of shows...a leftover occupational hangup from my criminal law days I guess. Well I'm off to finish my show and then MAYBE I'll start a new book...we'll see. I've been meaning to read JQ's SPLENDID, but I seem to have lost the interest in reading it. Unfortunately, I'm not in the mood for anything else, so...

Oh EB I'll go check out the reviews for that book. I hope she didn't mention your review in hers. I hate when people do that. Just write your own opinion and leave other people with theirs.

EB, I saw the comment. I agree she wasn't rude, but it's clear she was trying to get you to see the book from her point of view. It's funny when people do that. The truth is if you love a book and I hate, I really wish I could see it the way you do. I mean no one wants to hate a book...do they? I don't! I read for enjoyment and, I wish every book I read would be a five star experience. That's what I want. I do realize, however, that that isn't a very realistic expectation. And that's okay. It's okay for me to take umbrage with the occasional book. It's okay if I hate the occasional storyline. And it's okay even if everyone else loves it! I know that when I have an issue with a storyline that others are going to love it...it's okay that they disagree with my opinion; that's what makes us different.

I can understand the urge to try to convince someone to see a book the same way you do--especially if you loved the book and felt a connection to the characters--but it's an urge that I usually resist. If we are discussing a book, I'll give all the reasons why I loved/hated it, but I don't try to change another person's opinion. The reading experience is a truly individual one.

Good afternoon, ladies! I'm a little late today, but as they say, better late than never. I've already been through the freebie section and I only found a few books for today.

The first one, SCANDALOUS WAGER is a ninety page novella. I've read that book and really liked it; I gave it 5 stars. FYI it has nothing to do with a wager. LOL

It's unusual in that it doesn't involve the English aristocracy or overly rich people. It's about a h who is the older daughter of the Detective Chief Inspector. The H works for her father. He is a Detective Inspector with a promising career. Every man that her father invites home for dinner, usually falls all over the h's beautiful, younger sister. The h is described as quite plain; she's also a bit of a bluestocking, if I remember correctly. The H however, has absolutely no interest in the h's sister, but is totally enthralled with the h. Nonetheless, she is strictly off-limits as the H is very ambitious and intends to scale to the height of his career. He can hardly do so while dallying with the man's daughter.

The h too is extremely attracted to the H. She has no interest in marriage, but decides she wants to learn about carnal delights with the H. When she shows up on the H's doorstep one night, and offers herself to him, the H thinks he's dreaming. LOL The story progresses from there. It's really short so everything happens quickly, but I really enjoyed it. It's set in Victorian England during the time of Jack the Ripper...FYI the H is actually working the Ripper case at the time of the romance.

http://smile.amazon.com/Cheyenne-Than...

http://www.amazon.com/Chasing-Rainbow...

http://www.amazon.com/Romancing-Lady-...

http://www.amazon.com/Rebel-Soul-Hist...

http://www.amazon.com/UP-CREEK-J-R-Wr...

CHEYENNE THANKSGIVING is a repeat freebie. It was on one of our lists last November. It is book three, I believe, in the Sweet Cheyenne Quartet Series. We've had all four of the books on our lists at one time or another. FYI book one, CHEYENNE CHRISTMAS is still available for free.

CHASING RAINBOWS is an American historical. The H is a drifter accused of a murder he did not commit. The h is the former member of a gang, who claims she is going "straight." LOL The H agrees to escort the h on her journey in hopes that she will lead him to her former gang who is guilty of the murder of which he is accused. I'm not sure what exactly the h's connection was to the gang, or how involved she was with them.

ROMANCING LADY STONE is another repeat from a prior freebie list back in November some time. It's about an older h. She has fully grown children after years of a marriage of convenience. When she learns that her son is about to marry a woman who is not his social equal, the h travels to Russia to try to stop the marriage. She ends up in trouble and the H comes to her aid. He's Russian.

REBEL SOUL is by Jenna Stone. It's book 2 in her Scottish Rebels series, which about three brothers who were transported to America after a failed Scottish rebellion against the English. This is brother Quinn's story. The story is set in the 1700's. Once there he meets the h, and Indian, as she is giving birth! FYI we've had book 1 in this series, REBEL'S KISS, on our freebie list in the past. I've read Jenna Stone before and remember her being a good writer, although I can't recall offhand what of hers I've read. I believe it was only one book, though, so I'm certainly no expert on the topic of this author. LOL

Here's the book blurb for UP CREEK: If there was ever a marriage meant to be, the one between Tate Gallagher and Mattie Bell, the second for each, had to rank near the top for compatibility, especially since there are five children involved. But what happens when the two of them team up to wildcat for crude in an area of 1910 Oklahoma not known to have any of the stinky black stuff? Excitement over the prospects of striking it rich leads to hardship, and hardship leads to disaster. But through it all Mattie manages to hold the family together. This is a suspenseful story of love and eventual triumph against forces that are determined to have them fail. Killer cunningness in this untamed land lends new meaning to the state's moniker; Sooner State - sooner dead than alive.

That's it for today, ladies. TTYL!

Hahaha I'd tell her that I will rate it as a trilogy when it is marketed and SOLD as such. As it now stands it's an individual book being sold as a stand alone. Thus it gets it's own rating. Furthermore, were you to take her unsolicited advice the five star reviews you gave the other two books would be decreased. But thank you for taking the time to leave the comment; it's so nice when "experts" give away their input for free, even to those who aren't the least bit interested in it. LOL

I've been there girl...with the trembling I mean. That was me and that stupid idiot that commented on my review a little while back. Some people just have nothing else to do, but stick their noses into other people's business. Ugh! I can understanding loving a book so much that you cannot understand how/why someone else didn't love it too, but to attack that person is so pathetic!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Yeah when I got it I hadn't really thought it through and when I was on these on the second book it hit me. There is a Larry character in every book. The second book is the only one I haven't cared for. It was by Caren Crane and it was about a woman who has an affair with a married man and winds up pregnant. Need I say more? Anyhow I am on the fifth book and Ava Stone is yet to pop up. She's like the last book I think. A good set I must say bc it has so much variety. Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments No the husband has a massive heart attack. Believe me when I say it was a waste. The girl has a cousin who takes a picture of them and causes trouble it's kind of hard to explain but long story short she breaks it off with him and then finds out she's pregnant. Tells him when she's five months along. He offers money and support but she refuses until she's dead ass broke and their son is sick, car broke down. I just kept saying why? It was meaningless IMO and the husband has a 16 year old daughter and is 15 years older than the h. The others are really entertaining though so far.

ASpoon just sent me an email via Amazon. One of those that says "X would like you to see this item." It was a link to SINFUL CONFESSIONS. LOL

BTW I know you like a good erotica every once in a while like i do. Here's one that's currently free. I read it before and really liked it. Beware, it's rather voyeuristic...the H and h have to consummate their marriage in front of the entire clan. LOL But the H is just so darn sweet with the h that I couldn't help but love him.

He's loved the h for years and even asked for her hand, but her father refused. She didn't know this. Anyhow, he offers for her again and this time the father agrees because he needs the coin and protection for his lands that the H's clan can offer. The father was supposed to tell her about the clan's weird requirement of consummating with the clan witnessing the act, but he didn't. The h is really shy and private and the father thought she'd balk if she knew. So the poor girl finds out when it's time to do the deed. The H was absolutely lovely with her and when they were done he confessed his love. It was sweet...despite the voyeurism. :-) I gave it five stars!!

Yes I saw her comment and then the other heifer attacked ASpoon. So you're saying that these three "ladies" are attached to the author somehow? My God if I ever write a book I hope no one I know attacks someone for leaving a negative review. It reflects so badly on the author. I wont touch any of her books for that reason only. Suppose I don't like one of her books? I won't put myself out for that. There are too many books and too many authors out there for me to take a chance on being attacked because of my opinion. It's ridiculous!

Speaking of which, I deleted all of my Francine Howarth books from my cloud yesterday. Remember the author I had problems with? I refuse to read anything else by her.

STOLEN KISSES is book 2 in the Leap of Love Series. We've had book 4 on our freebie list recently. It's a novella of just over 100 pages. The H is a widower with a small child who decides to move west and become a Texas Ranger. The h is caught in the middle of a decades old feud between her father and another man; a man who will stop at nothing to make her his. The H is the law in the area and has to protect the h from this man.

HEART'S STOLEN is about a h who is kidnapped by Indians and then rescued by a Texas Ranger some five years later. At this point the h has a four year old son, and the blurb mentions something about her still being married to the child's father--presumably the h was in early pregnancy when she was abducted. Anyhow, this is a Christian romance.

Here's the blurb for PILGRIMS OF WAR: Beautiful Italian doctor Magdalena Russo is headed to a medical conference when the ship she’s traveling on is seized at the Panama Canal. World War II is raging, and the passengers aboard the Italian ship are deemed a threat to the United States. Magdalena and the other passengers are sent to Ellis Island where they are interrogated and detained. During her forced stay in America, she lends a hand with medical services and embarks on an unlikely friendship with hansom ship's captain. Will the prisoners make it home to Italy before the friendship becomes something more? From reading one of the reviews it seems the h was already married with a husband and young daughter who she left behind in Italy. While imprisoned here in the States she receives word that her husband was imprisoned in Italy for treason, so presumably he'll be killed off in the story.

COURAGE TO LOVE is book 3 in the Flynn Family Saga. We've had book 2, DANGEROUS MEN, on a previous freebie list. FYI these books are to be read together. I don't know if any of them end in a cliffhanger, but all three stories are about different aspect of the same couple's life together. In this book, the couple's first child is a stillborn and the H runs from his grief and his past, abandoning the h when she needs him the most.

That's it for today, ladies. TTYL!

Hey Rachel. I'd say it's safe. The story is the H asked for the h's hand in marriage when she was 15 or 16. Her father knew about the clan's weird practices--although the exact nature is top secret and known only to the clan members. Anyhow, because the h is so shy and retiring her father didn't think the H would be a good match for her. Now some five years later he is super popular with the ladies. There is always a string of them hanging around him AND his mother. LOL

Now that he's getting close to 30 the H knows that he really needs to marry and since the h is still single he once again asks the father for her hand. The father agrees and signs a contract agreeing to inform the h of the requirement of the consummation, but he doesn't tell her because he doesn't think she'll go for it. The H is so romantic with the h during that whole crazy scene that even though there were hundreds of people watching them I couldn't help but find it touching.

There is no other woman, BUT when he's trying to convince her that they need to consummate he finally tells her the truth about his feelings. Up until now she just thought that it was the usual arranged/marriage of convenience situation. There is one scene where he had approached her and asked her to come with him, but she didn't. He then went directly to her father. He tells her that on that day he had just slept with another woman, just an hour before, and even though he had just "been satisfied" let's say, as soon as he saw the h he became erect once more. This was his way of showing her how much she affected him, that he didn't marry her for convenience. Aside from that confession from him there isn't any mention of any other woman.

NO!!!!! Hell no! LOL He slept with a woman and an hour later he sees the h and decides he's gonna ask for her hand again. When the h's father refused the H's offer for her hand, he told the H that she was promised to a Duke--the h is English, living in Scotland. The H then believed that she was lost to him, so he moved on. But now he had to get married soon, and since as she was still single, he decided it couldn't hurt to ask again.

I think you'll like it. These nuances usually creep me out too; or make me uncomfortable. I didn't get that feeling when I read this book. Maybe it's because HE is confessing it to her because she needs to understand why he decided to marry her. He is asking her to please let them work together and get the deed done and basically she asks him "why me?" He loves her, but he's a man, thus an idiot and instead of telling her I love you, he goes into this long spiel. She's still hesitant so he finally says look, this is the effect you have on me, then he tells her about sleeping with the other woman. It ends up convincing her. AFTER they do the deed, he says to her "I love you my Elise." Sigh. I've read a few erotic romances; most of them aren't very romantic IMO. This one I thought was.

BTW Rachel, I should mention that this happens at a Gathering; a fest/competition of some type that all the clans attend each year. This is where he sees the h each year.

Rachel | 443 comments Okay that's doable! I was so confused. I don't usually like the Rake types but we don't have to read about him sleeping with anyone but the heroine so I'll deal. They meet again and get together early in the book?

Yes, it's only about 80 pages so everything is quick. They are at the Gathering. The h sees his mother walking around with a flock of hopefuls--girls who want to marry him. The h thinks they are potential brides for the H, but later he tells her that his mother was being diplomatic, that she's always known that the h is the one he wants. Anyhow, it's at the Gathering that he approaches the h intending to ask her to marry him, but she thinks he wants a dalliance and has no interest; the only thing of value she has left is her virtue. He then goes to her father and and shows up at her keep a few days later. However, she doesn't find out he offers to marry her until after the contracts are signed. Over half the story takes place at the consummation so they marry very quickly in the book. I'm telling you, this clan is crazy! Wait til you hear the reasons why they require this ritual. LOL

The second book in the series is even crazier! That one made me laugh, but I didn't like it as much because the H slept with other women WHILE married to the h. But that's another story. :-)

Have a good day at work, EB! Don't let those nay sayers bother you. They are losers who need to get a life.
