I hear what you're saying. But honestly, if that is a pet peeve of yours I think this book would probably annoy you. I am at 70% and the hero is still trying to withdraw from the h, even after marrying her and having great sex, which is even better than with his late wife. Actually I think that is what spooked him...he's feeling a little guilty at the negative comparisons between his present wife and his late one. Plus he's still not reconciled to the idea of being married--it's only been two days. He has no idea why he married her; it was a spontaneous act. He feels an overwhelming urge to protect the h, and has almost from the very beginning, even while he was desperate to get away from her because she tempted him in a way no other woman has since his wife died. It's been three years since he lost his wife and son to a fever.

He went to a monastery, where he stayed for about two years, I think. His plan was to take holy vows and devote his life to the church in memory of his late family. Before that could happen, he went with a monk on a pilgrimage. The monk died, but not before extracting a promise from the H. He wanted the H to take a valuable, sacred relic to his brother in England for safekeeping, and also made him promise not to take his vows until after he returned from England. The monk said he didn't believe the H was meant for the life of a monk, especially because of the reasons he had come to the Order--grief. Because of his promise, he still had not taken his vows but intended to fulfill his promise to deliver the relic and return to France to take his vows according to his original plans. Even now that he's married, he's thinking to leave the h with his brother and--????--do what he's not sure. But he's thinking he doesn't want to be a husband--he can't be a husband. I'm almost ready to smack him myself, and the prolonged mourning is not one of my pet peeves.

You better hope you don't pass away soon, otherwise I'm coming to Ohio to get Ken hooked up with a girlfriend. I'll tell him "Janet wouldn't want you to mourn too long. It was a pet peeve of hers, so I'm sure three months is more than enough time!" ROTFL

RF~ Easy tiger...LOL. I do get the need for grief and in those times people had to dye their clothes black and wear arm bands to express their mourning so I'm sure it never left there thoughts. I think people appreciated life more because it was so dear and short back than.

The funny thing is I've watched plenty of movies where the H or h are still mourning and it takes a while and never minded it but I grow impatient when I read, don't ask me why and keep your floozy away from my husband. ROTFLMBO! He is ruined for all other women after me. LOL! You just want to come and collect my books.

Speaking of which I had a fun thought ladies. I won this book on Facebook that I just finished reading and I loved. I also have other books upstairs that are just collecting dust what if we got addresses and mailed them to each other. I don't know how you guys feel about that we could pass e mails if you'd prefer it more private or maybe each person only give their address to one of us and take turns alternating books to one particular person.

What do you guys think? I thought since I won the book it would be great to share and keep my karma going on. I also would love to hear your guys thoughts. Let me know I just thought it would be fun but I understand if it seems a little odd to you guys.

EB you're a mess! I've said it before and I'm gonna keep on saying it. Seriously though, I think the reason it's so much more annoying when you're reading is because your stuck with the characters for a longer period of time. Think about it...The average movie lasts for about two hours, whereas a book can take at least a day or several days to read, depending on how fast a reader you are. It makes the story last longer, and any aspect that's not quite right can start to grate on your nerves. LOL

Well I'm done with the book, and I really, really liked it. I confess that the hero's hesitance about a relationship with the h was just starting to grate on MY nerves. It wasn't until 90+% into the story that he realizes that he cannot abandon the h with his family and return to the monastery. It took him just a bit too much time to reach that conclusion...although to be fair the entire story occurs over a two to three week period. Yet still, to get so close to the end of the book before reaching a resolution about the relationship was a bit much. Truthfully, I would not have minded so much if he was still torn about the relationship, but knew that he would be staying with the h. I mean once he married her, no matter the reason, he was, IMO, obligated to remain with her.

That being said, I've just borrowed another of the author's books Dryden's Bride, which I intend to start next. But first I'm going to peruse her The Highlander's Desire, which I believe I've read before. I'm gonna check it out to determine whether or not I'm right. If I'm wrong, who knows? I may end up reading that one instead.

As for your idea about the books, EB. It's a solid one, except that all my fave books are stored at my mother's house in Florida. I usually re-read then when I'm there in the summer. I have only one here, His Wicked Promise, which I reread cover to cover last summer. I don't really read hardcopy books anymore though. I much prefer to read on my kindle. As to exchanging addresses I'm cool with that, but it would have to be via email or private message on FB. Don't forget, any nut has access to our message board here on GR. ROTFL

Here are the other books I know I have in Florida--at least at last check. My mom has a tendency to steal away my books and take them to Jamaica! Until You, Whitney, My Love, Gypsy Lord, A Year and a Day, and Merely Married. Those are the ones that I can remember off the top of my head. I'll have to ask my mom for an accounting when next I speak with her. Darn it I was just there too!

MERELY MARRIED is an absolute hoot. The H is a completely irreverent duke. He's sick of being a target for marriage minded women, so he comes up with the crazy idea to marry and become a widower. He thinks he'll then be safe while he enjoys an extended mourning period. LOL. He discovers the h is gravely ill, believed to be on her death bed. His equally irreverent childhood friend, who is a clergyman, performs the ceremony. He then leaves his ring with the h and returns to London to enjoy the fruits of his labor. He tells people his beloved wife is deathly ill, but insisted that he not remain at her bedside. When the h shows up in the middle of his dinner part declaring to all and sundry that "darling I got better and I'm home" I almost died laughing!!!! Now he's stuck with a WIFE!!!

The h had intended to launch her younger sister into society in the hopes of securing a successful marriage. What better way to ensure her success than being sponsored by her sister, who is a DUCHESS?! LOL. So she pretty much blackmails the duke and the game begins. I loved that book. Adrian, the duke, was a complete mess, and you know how much I LOVE messes!

BTW you better hang in there, because otherwise I'm gonna find Ken a sexy California bimbo to come keep him company in Ohio! ROTFL. Here's a better idea, whenever you read a book with a H who is mourning too much pretend he's Ken. That'll really piss you off every time he kisses the h. Hahaha. I'm cracking me up! LOL. Sorry EB, I promise I'll behave from now on. Sigh!

I know you have my e mail so we're set and I wanted to see how others felt too. I have some I would want back but others that I would like to see go to good homes. LMBO! I am dispersing my children ladies I have to look after their well beings. My babies I would want back are my Lisa Kleypas, Hannah Howell's, Gaelan Foley. My orphans I have are Lorraine Heath, Liz Carlyle, Bertrice Small, Kat Martin. I have more but this is off the top of my head. I'll write down a complete list. Kat Martin, I think she's the one that wrote GYPSY LORD. Yes, I do think you'd love Adrian. I'll ask my Mom to go through the books and give me a complete list of what's there. Umm Gaelan Foley, I'm not familiar with that author.

And as for behaving, I know how to behave. I just choose not to....that worse though, isn't it? LOL

She did the knight family and one of the Knight twins name is Lucien. My favorite Knight brother is bad boy brother Alec. I'm trying to think what book you would like by her. Let me peek through them if she's who you want to try I got all the knight brothers. The duke was probably my least favorite. Big surprise it was because he was so duty bound he insulted the h but he shined at the end for the knight he was. In all reality though he was being true to his title so you can't really fault him there. I've actually grown since I read that one. The twins are nicknamed Damian and Lucifer as kids. Ones a spy the other suffers from PTSD. There bastard brother, Jack has made his fortune on the high seas. Jack let's you see what can happen even being a bastard connected with a well off family still did not protect you. The mother was loose. They have a sister named Jacinda and her friend Lizzy gets her own story too. The cousin Georgina gets a story. If you liked Kat Martin I have a series from her Bride Trilogy Reese's Bridewas my favorite. I literally cried at the end. I also have Madeline Hunter, Mary Barlough, Linsay Sands, Stephanie Laurens.

Let me look closer at what I got to see which book I think you'd like unless you see one you'd like to try. The Jaide Heist is super short and I know you'd finish in an evening so I want to send another one with it for you.

That would have bothered me as well. Bastardy was a huge issue in that time period so if the H and h actually loved each other they would have moved heaven and earth to get married before the child was born.

OMG! This is just NOT my day! I had a list of about ten or so books on the freebie list. As you know I'm working with a handicap, because I have no computer. I have to switch back and forth between webpages in order to copy and paste the links. Each time I come back to Goodreads I hold my breath because I'm afraid the list I've started so far will be gone once the page is done refreshing itself. It's so much more reliable switching between webpages on a computer! Up until now it's never happened. Just now it did!!

I can't go through that again. So the freebie list is going to be super short today. Ugh!!!!

http://www.amazon.com/Unavoidable-Ore...

http://www.amazon.com/Knights-Time-Bo...

http://www.amazon.com/Black-Thornes-R...

http://www.amazon.com/Fortunes-Flower...

I just realized that I lost that entire first list of freebies for a book--and I use the word loosely--that's thirteen pages long!!!! Unbelievable! UNAVOIDABLE is a thirteen page--what would you call it ?--short story, novella, composition? I should've stopped while the going was good. Ugh! Anyhow, the KNIGHTS book is actually a set of three full-length novels. Yes a book collection FOR FREE! Yay!

I'm going to stop now. I'm too scared to try to add anymore books to this list. I'll probably do another list after this one. I'm not sure, but I think a couple of the books I had listed on the previous list were new freebies. If that's the case I don't want to take the chance on missing out on the opportunity to snag them. I'll have to double check and see.

Hey Noreen, welcome back! I was starting to wonder where you were! Ya can you imagine being given that info about sex? Women's lot in life sure sucked back in the medieval period.

Of course Sigimore didn't give his new, naive wife any of this sex ed until AFTER he had satisfactorily consummated the marriage. LOL

As far as the bastardy issue, we're all in agreement then. No one wants to read the book. LOL. It might've been a very good story, despite the stupid ending, but I'm not taking any chances. The author will more than likely have the daughter of a viscount being addressed as "lady." Ugh!

Well have a nice day, everyone. I'll stop by for a chat later.

Ladies, I'm not sure who, if any of you, bothered to pick up that freebie from a couple of days ago, The Convenient Bride, but I wanted to add to my thoughts about the book. You may remember I blasted the book a few days ago. It's one that I couldn't finish, not cover to cover at any rate. Well I went back and flipped through it a second time, to remind myself why I had hated it so much. For one, thing I think mood might've played a big part in the whole debacle. Add to that the botched job with the titles and forms of address and it's no wonder I didn't get past 20%

But in all fairness I have to say the writing isn't bad. This book is actually written by the same author who wrote MURDER AT LOCKE ABBEY, and she's still learned nothing more about titles, etc. In CONVENIENT, the h is a countess, having inherited the title from her father. How is it that a female inherits the family title? Is it by a special royal decree or some such? No, we are told that it's by virtue of the h having had no siblings. Of course we all know that women did not inherit titles in that time period, absent some special circumstances.

I think I must've been in a foul mood when I tried to read this book, so the author's many transgressions relating to one of my pet peeves really rubbed me the wrong. When I flipped through the book this last time I can honestly say that, while everything I said about it before still stands, the relationship between the h and H is a beautiful one. They were childhood best friends, a friendship that continued into adulthood. They both love each other, but each thinks the other only loves him/her as a friend. Luckily this misconception gets cleared up fairly early in the story--it's not dragged on forever and a day. LOL Of there is also an ex-mistress who tries to cause dissension, and is a little successful at first. I love this aspect in a story, especially when, as is the case in this book, the hero remains faithful to the h. So I figured I'd amend my total hatred for this book. I felt bad having so thoroughly bashed it. It's not all bad.

If you're not as picky as I am about titles and forms of address, and you can tolerate a little modernism, then you might very well enjoy this story, because at the heart of it is a sweet romance. It's most definitely a better read than DEVIL'S PREY--at least IMHO. I think that's what prompted me to browse through it again...the fact that I read DEVIL'S PREY despite all its obvious flaws, but couldn't be bothered with CONVENIENT. That's a mood for you...it can make or break a read. LOL

Anyhow, CONVENIENT is still free. Here's the link in case anyone is interested.

Don't feel badly, Noreen. I actually don't mind posting the freebie list--I could even say I enjoy it! It's so easy to do and I check for freebies for myself almost daily anyway. It just gets a bit frustrating on those rare occasions when the computer acts up, or when, as now, my tablet has t a glitch. I'm just aggravated about my computer and am hoping to be up and running again soon. I'm not looking forward to calling Dell though. That's gonna be at least a two hour phone call. Sigh

I'm glad you got CONVENIENT. Hopefully you'll enjoy it. I remember getting intensely disappointed when I didn't like it because the storyline is one I love, and I was really looking forward to reading it.

Noreen Kellner | 190 comments Glad that you enjoy doing the list, RF. I myself enjoy going through the 100 best sellers free list when I have time. I always try to check for the historical romances at every opportunity but also the sci/fi and fantasy and westerns. lol I get easily sidetracked and my memory is not the best so sometimes I lose track of where I last searched. I read Butterfly Gardens awhile back. Don't remember all the details but I do remember I liked it. I don't usually read Amish stories but it wasn't a typical Amish. They had sex.
I had read two other AB books. Undeniable Rogue which was pretty good. Then I read Unforgettable which I hated so I took a Blair break. But I had forgotten she did Butterfly G. I think I'll go back and try the third Rogue which I was going to pass up --but the odds have now shifted in her favor.

kate | 203 comments I'm having nostalgia week. I did two rereads which is not my usual since I have about 10 books on my short tbr list. But I reread Highland Unconquered which I still liked but it had a lot more narrative and introspection then I remembered. I also read His Enemy's Daughter which I liked even better. Did I mention she is blind and he only has one eye. I think I may need therapy.

I also read The Model Master. It was a hot mess. The author writes a great sex scene but falls short on story. Right from the beginning they are panting after each other. That might have been OK but they are in the room with her two deathly ill children who have the measles and a terrible coughs. Nonetheless before the night is over she has bared her breast to him and he has jerked off twice. Maybe it's just as well the children are semi conscience. I really loved the scene where he rubs her down with lice powder. Now that's romantic.

Kate~ You crack me up. Rubbed down with lice powder eh? LMBO! They should hook up with flea guy. Have a parasite fun fest. ROTFLMBO! I am reading The Key which was on the freebie list a couple days ago and so far the violence reminds me of Bertrice Small. This mans poor baby was left with a knife sticking out of it's chest and his wife's throat was slit and left contorted on the floor. I was tearing up and haven't made it out of the Prologue.

RF~ Flipping to the end this is a series and it has a cliffhanger and you have to continue with the series which is a pet peeve of mine but what am I to do now I am hooked? I want to read this book and OOOOOOHH I hate that but maybe my library has it.

You're a hot mess Kate! Freedom?! ROTFL. That's kinda like when my husband deadpans and asks me why on earth would he want another woman once he'd gotten rid of me?! Romantic isn't it? If course I've threatened to haunt him for the rest of his life if I go first, so we're pretty much even. LOL

I've read HIS ENEMY'S DAUGHTER and absolutely loved it. EB read it too. That book is more than worth a second read. But I'm telling you, you need to read the other two books in the series, The Mercenary's Bride and The Conqueror's Lady (The Knights of Brittany, #2). Those two were just as fabulous...although I think book two, CONQUEROR, was my favorite. Of the three women, that heroine was the most feisty. I love a feisty heroine...that's probably because I'm somewhat feisty myself. Who am I kidding, I'm completely feisty. LOL. Brice, the hero in book two, was also my favorite of the three Briton knights.

Thanks for the heads up re MODEL MASTER. The reviews seemed mixed, leaning towards the negative, but I want sure. You may have noticed that MODEL HUSBAND, by the same author is a freebie today. It too has mixed reviews. Some readers seem to love the books, but there are quite a few who rated then really low.

The ah rubbing down with lice powder scene sounds too delicious to pass up. ROTFL What the hell was the author thinking? And sex with sick kids in the room...with ANY kids in the room, but especially sick. That's just tacky!

Well if extended mourning for the dead wife is a pet peeve of yours I suggest you avoid VIRTUOUS KNIGHT. As much as I loved the book, I wouldn't try to sell you on it. LOL

OMG! EB did I miss that KEY was a continuing series? I'm so sorry! I usually check for stuff like that. I will still include a freebie that's part of a series, but I like to point that out for this exact reason--so you don't get sucked into a story that you're gonna need to spend money to find out the ending!! I've also gotten entire series for free just by downloading each book as it becomes available. I don't start reading it until I have all the books, but I don't mind the wait for each installment because I have soooooo many other books to read!

There was a GOVERNESS series on our freebie list a few days ago. All the installments were free plus the bonus novella that came after the book. That was sweet, and unusual--getting all the books together for free.

I'll check out KEY and see which books continue the series. Since you've already started it, and you like it, you should add the other books to your wishlist and keep an eye on them. You never know when they'll go on sale!

As for the list, don't worry, I really do like doing it. Speaking of list, FYI I read GROOM'S GAMBLE that's on the list today, and liked it. It's a romance between a lord and his housekeeper. It's more realistic than it sounds, because although she's from a poor family, she had a noble background and was gently reared. It was quite sweet. I think I rated it four stars or somewhere in that neighborhood.

I never read LARKEN, but I have read other stuff by S.G.Rogers and liked it. She's a pretty good up and coming author. I actually thought LARKEN was a mail order bride book, but from thumbing through it I get the impression it's set in England. I'll have to re-read the book blurb. Anyhow, I'm gonna run. I just posted my review for The Magic of Highland Dragons, which I read months ago but am just now reviewing. Sigh

Good morning, ladies. Here is the freebie list for today. BTW EB, thanks for the list of books you posted. I will definitely go through and check out the books on Amazon and/or GR. I already see a couple I'd like to read...RANSOM by Julie Garwood and the Margo Maguire one. Believe it or not, I've never read RANSOM, and as you know Garwood is one of my all time favorite authors. As for Maguire, I've read three of her books--two recently--and really enjoyed them. I'm actually reading her DRYDEN'S BRIDE now.

Well, back to the list...

The HALLOWEEN book is a novella and is a contemporary romance, I think. There's mention of the h being a college student. LETTER OF LOVE is super short. I read it and liked it very much, although there wasn't a whole lot of story to it, as you can imagine with only 35 pages. I also read TAME A SUMMER HEART. It was ok; I gave it 3 stars.

The GOVERNESS serial novel is once again free...at least volumes 1 and 2, as well as the sequel novella...it's titled novella 1, but it is a sequel to the novel. Volume 3 is available for .99 cents, but I can almost guarantee it will be available again for free some time in the near future. Here are the links for the free books. I'm reposting these links for those of you who may have missed out when the entire serial was available for free a few days ago.

RF~ Yea I seen that Maguire was on the free list with a book called Bash. Just send me your info and I'll send you JG and MM along with Elaina Lee's book next week.

I am finally coming up for air I am getting ready to start book 3 War in this series I've been addicted to. I finished book 2 and wow it's so good. I can't believe how wrapped I've gotten in the characters.

I put the review for the first book up and I will say if it appeals to anyone the other two books are loanable. The king and his heir are such rotten bastards and the starting to turn on one another.

Darmik is finally fighting for the right team and I'm so glad he and Rema have professed their love for one another. Now he just has to save her from the Captain who is taking her to have her executed. I have to flip to the end first because one of the reviews said there is a twist and you won't see it coming and I just have to know what it is. Hope everyone had a great day and read some fun books to chat about.

Wow...that one with the sex in the room with the two sick kids sounds more like porn than romance. lol

Hey EB, ya BRASH is a long term freebie. I posted the link a while back in a comment to Kate, I think. I've read it. It's really cute, but super short, so there isn't a whole lot to it. For all that, I really loved it. If I remember correctly the h had a limp, and her sister is super beautiful. The H wants to marry the sister...that is his intent when he arrives at the family's estate, but of course he ends up with the h. A very cute story!

I see that you capitulated and bought the other two books in the TRUE REIGN series, huh? KEY must've some book! I know the sequels were like five or six bucks each!!

Before you go sending off any books, let me run through the list you sent me just on case there are any others I'd really want to read. Thanks!

Hey guys, no freebie list today, but I came across this one and thought I'd let you know about it. The author's books normally sell for 9.99! So grab this one of you're interested. Who knows how long it will be offered for free!

http://smile.amazon.com/Born-Persuasi...

The writing is compared to Bronte and Austen's.

RF~ The book is a clean series but oh so good. Darmik's brother is such a sleaze ball. He goes to confront his brother because he is destroying everything in his path trying to locate Rema and he finds him in bed with this woman. The girl pulls herself off of him and covers herself. So Darmik says he needs to speak alone and this girl says do want me to come back later? Lennek's like no you weren't that good. He is just so cruel I could scream. He also carved an L into Darmik's chest. :(

BTW I also just found out what the twist was. I'm pretty bummed about it. It does have the HEA with an Epilogue. The spin off isn't coming until 2015. I know the 2nd book was 5 and the 3rd 6 but I had to know.

Haha. They sure got you, EB! But I guess we should BUY a book every once in a while. God knows we get enough free ones. LOL. I'm just glad you're enjoying the series so much. There's nothing like finding a book you love!

BTW what was the twist? I just have to know. LOL

It is such a different story from what I normally reach for that is the biggest shocker to me. I needed to get out of the house and haven't read too much today. I went to visit my parents today and they said we have no idea what to get you for Christmas and so I suggested an Amazon gift card. They were more than amendable to that so I am so so excited.

I set it to tape. It's one of the masterpiece mystery theatre. I've watched a lot of their episodes. They are usually good!

It's weird I was at my parents and was flipping through a magazine she had and saw it advertised on one of the pages. I never read the book but glanced at a couple of times. I can't wait I hope our other ladies get this before it airs unless it's not their thing but something tells me it is. Not to mention it will give us something new to talk about. We are all reading different books but that's cool because than it gives us something new to look into. LOL

So I go on Amazon and was looking at the DvD of DCTP and I do not like the cast. Darcy is hideous and Lizzy looks old. I'm not sure about this but it's free I'll endure. Darcy is suppose to be tall dark and handsome this man is rough with pock marks. I know I'm being superficial but that's the way movies work. LOL

No, you're not being superficial at all. The actors they choose should accurately reflect the characters they play. That being said, I was never do happy as when they portrayed Henry VIII as an attractive male in the HBO miniseries, THE TUDORS. I loved that series, but the real Henry was not the least bit attractive! Had Henry been accurately portrayed I don't think I'd have found the series half as fascinating as I did. Superficial? Maybe, but I don't care! LOL

OOOH have you ever seen The Other Boleyn Girl? Now that was a hot Henry. I don't have HBO, too cheap. Aspoon's seen this movie and I and she's watching it too. BTW I think she is avoiding this group because of all the original probs with the first group she doesn't like drama of any kind and steers clear. I wish she would rethink that. :)

I know. Me too. It would be fun if she joined. Yes, I did watch that movie. The actor in it was Eric Bana, I think. Now he's a hot tomale! LOL. But seriously, have you ever seen portraits of the real Henry VIII and Anne Boylyn? He wasn't exactly the type I'd drop my drawers for. ROTFL. And she wasn't that much better.
