Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I really hate separations. I am always saddened by the lost years. That being said I have enjoyed books like coming home to you. The H moves to Boston and becomes a police homicide detective in the beginning he gets it on with this slutty ME from a case he's working on. But when he gets called back to Portland I think he is reunited with his sweetheart.

OMG! Erika you have no idea. I am sooooo not into threesomes. I was surprised when the third vampire entered the picture and thought there was no way I was going to go for it. But I have to tell you, I found the story intriguing and very romantic. I was truly surprised by how much I liked this book! It's a little risque though. There are some explicit sex scenes between the three.

Hey EB, I think you missed it that that Nigella chick was saying it was bad form for "me" to defend my review. You thought she was talking about the author's comment. LOL I myself wasn't sure what she meant, but figured she was referring to me since as I am the one who was defending the review. But she's cleared up all confusion with her last comment. She's one of those idiots who read spoiler reviews and then complain that they "spoiled" the story for her. I could never wrap my mind around that concept. What are those people thinking? DO they think?

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Lol apparently I did miss it. I did get a weird vibe at her last comment. She was saying she understood you having the right to voice your opinion blah blah blah. Please. Clearly a friend and while the author is doing her good deeds why does she need to boast. Things will all play out

I did glance at this but I didn't have time for much conversation. I don't blame you for leaving things be as they are. t will just continue. Get this I sat at the hospital today and he aids were giving me all kinds of grief bc they were ticked off at me bc I was sitting. Are you kidding me?

Oh lord, the hospital aid is a whole other animal. Just ask Rachel. LOL They're just jealous because they have so much work to do and you only have the one patient. It's not your fault though. In this case you really just have to ignore them. RU you going back tomorrow or is your client back at home now?

My reading has slowed down. I'm almost done with BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN another fun reread, this one from Julia Quinn. I'm at 90% and am trying to get it done tonight. Then I still have to finish listening to that Sands one. Not sure what I'll read next though. Yesterday kindof messed up my flow; I didn't read at all. But that's Tuesdays for me. Next week is my last CCD class! Yay!

How's Ken doing today? I hope better. BTW I know exactly what you mean about trying to stay positive and telling yourself all sorts of good things, but not believing them. But they do say that if you KEEP telling yourself that then eventually you WILL believe it. I remember after we had Lucian. I was already at home fultime with Hannah and our health insurance was nowhere near as good as when I had worked for the county. We got the insurance explanation of benefits for the Lucian's birth and in it they had me being responsible for $10,000 of the costs--that was our co-pay, out of pocket, PLUS the $7000 in medical care that had been "disallowed." I didn't even know what that meant because I had had a very normal delivery and the regular two night stay in the hospital, nothing extra. So, I had no idea what was being disallowed or WHY! I cried!

At the time we were going through a really difficult time financially and there was no way we were going to be able to come up with 10K. After I had my cry I told myself I needed to stop worrying about it. I prayed and told God I was leaving it up to him. Why worry about something you can't change? I decided once I got the bill then I would try to work out some type of plan or something with them.

Of course I couldn't put it completely out of my mind, but I tried. Girl, when I got the bill from the hospital, they had written off everything the insurance company had disallowed. We only had to pay our out of pocket and co-pay expenses. It was 3k. Not great, but a whole lot better than 10!! I was really glad when I got that bill, not only because it was less than I had anticipated, but also because I hadn't wasted too much time worrying about it.

So, hang in there. This too shall pass. It's the waiting for it to pass that is difficult!!

Ugh. Day 1 one THREE?! Rachel you are an angel. I remember well those days...they are NOT fun! Hang in there.

At the time I had self-paid insurance--they are the worst. I was home with the kids and my husband was self-employed. The 3k I paid was a huge diff from the three HUNDRED I had paid when I had my daughter. My insurance as awesome then! I'm assuming you have insurance through your work? Maybe your husband does too? It shouldn't be that bad, but yes you'll have out of pocket.

I believe you can call the billing department of the hospital of where you intend to deliver and they can give you an idea of the cost based on normal deliveries--both types--and your insurance plan. If your hospital has a maternity ward it should be even easier for you to find out, I would think. I never checked into things ahead of time, but I did have one friend who had and that's why I think you should be able to get that info.

Anyway, have a nice day at work! You too, EB!

Good morning, ladies. Here's the freebie list for today. This first one is by Marcia Lynn McClure. Her books usually include a bit of humor--at least the ones I've read have done so. I loved all her westerns, but the one Regency one I read, I didn't enjoy quite a much. Either way, I think she has a nice writing style. This one has a pirate theme. The h is abducted from her home in New Orleans and taken aboard a British--this is during the time when the English and America were enemies. She is then turned over to a pirate ship that has a ruthless captain, only to be abducted once more by yet another pirate ship. The captain of that ship is the H. He, apparently, is not what he seems.

http://smile.amazon.com/Pirate-Ruse-M...

http://smile.amazon.com/Mine-Northwes...

http://smile.amazon.com/Seduction-Sop...

http://smile.amazon.com/Avenge-Highla...

http://smile.amazon.com/Hearts-Barbed...

http://smile.amazon.com/Married-Stran...

http://smile.amazon.com/Other-Daughte...

THE MINE is about a modern day college student--the year is 2000--who enters a mine and finds himself back in the year 1941. He apparently then hooks up with his 21 year old "trailblazing" grandmother (LOL) and begins a new life. There is a love interest, but we aren't told anything about her in the book blurb. In any event, when the opportunity to return to the future arises, the H is faced with the dilemma of going and leaving his love behind or staying with her.

THE SEDUCTION OF SOPHIE SEACREST is a repeat from a previous freebie list. I included it for the benefit of members who may have missed it previously. It's about a h who falls for the H, a man who has just returned to England after a twelve year absence. The H has just inherited his late father's earldom. Since as no one recognizes him as yet, he go incognito to ferret out the man who is trying to destroy his family's business. That man is the h's father. Warning, there are a lot of 1 star reviews that complain about the hero. He is apparently pretty awful. Of course a number of people did like the book.

TO AVENGE HER HIGHLAND KNIGHT by Samantha Holt is about a h who has lost everything to war. Her home, her wealth... her lover. And now she wants revenge. Her hasty plan throws her at the mercy of her enemy’s men, she holds little hope of returning to her kin and fears death is around the corner. The H is her captor, of course. He has no memory of who he is and is now loyal to his laird, a man who saved his life. He is preparing for war; his laird intends to join the Norse and wage war against Scotland. Sound treasonous to me. In any event, the H apparently is the h's lost love, but he has no memory of her.

HEARTS IN BARBED WIRE is set during the first world war. The h is a nurse during the war; she risks her life to save the H, a soldier who is trapped behind enemy lines. The story is set in 1914 Belgium. I've read two other books by this author; I liked them both. I don't usually read books set during this time period, nor in countries such as Belgium, but the first book I read was set during the same way as this book and I really, really liked it. Gave it 4 stars.

MARRIED TO A STRANGER is about a h whose husband abandoned her. The H is a stranger in town who asks her to marry him. She wasn't too receptive to the proposal. LOL The excerpt provided has the h holding a gun on the H. My kind of woman! FYI this is a novella. It contains some 66 pages.

THE OTHER DAUGHTER is set one of those royal sagas that is set during the time of James VI of Scotland. The h is the natural child of a knight--who was executed for treason--and a laundress. To be honest, I'm not really sure what this book is about. There is a lot of information in the blurb to wade through. I'm gonna pass on trying to decipher it and let y'all check it out for yourselves. LOL

That's it for today, ladies. TTYL!

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I am learning ladies. The aids tried to push me around and all seemed to attack me at once. I talked to my home office and she told me no you are to sit with her period. They backed off once I told them what was what. Bunch of bitches. They came in every 5 minutes and just did anything they could to make my job harder but in the end my clients roommate got in the picture and we all got into a good conversation. Including my client who barely speaks. She spoke complete sentences and I was so happy to tell her son that. it was pathetic on their end. I Think the fact that her daughter noticed how much she talked compared to others proved that I did my job. She was totally different from other days her son told me. This CA book isn't as good a others but it's not bad. It started out similar to her other ones but now organized crime is involved and the romance is almost non existent. My laptop is acting up so my dad s going to check it out later. I can't do my review or anything. Typing on my phone is ok but I like a full keyboard on my computer. I'm off today and tomorrow. We're having my sons bday party Saturday b4 I work. He's going to be 13. :(

Wow! Officially a teenager! Congrats! Yes the hospital aids can be a bitchy bunch when they get ready. I their defense they are usually overworked; although that doesn't prevent some from being lazy. Of course that is no excuse for the way they treated you. I've seen that before. It's really just jealousy. I don't know why. No one is prevent THEM from going out and getting a similar job. I'm glad you put them in their place. I guess they thought if they tried hard enough they could intimidate you. LOL

Sorry about your computer. Yes typing on the phone sucks! It's okay for sending texts but I would NEVER type a review on it. I can hardly stand doing so on my kindle fire and the screen is much better than my phone. The computer keyboard is the best as far as I am concerned. I hope you get yours fixed soon. I thought you were working today...not sure why. Anyhow, have a nice day off.

I'm going to finish BRIGHTER THAN THE SUN now...FINALLY! I just couldn't stay up long enough to do so last night; I was so tired! Not sure what I'm going to read next. I'm in a strange reading mood. I do have the Sands one to listen to so maybe I'll do that. We'll see. Which CA book are you reading now?

message 2364: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I think there is more to it than that. Her assisted living facility questioned me if I felt she could go back to her normal routine? I don't feel she's ready and the aids came all at once and felt like they were attacking me bc there were three of them. I agree they have their hands full you'll get no argument from me in that my problem is I am caught in the middle. They were coping an attitude with me and all I was doing is to be there for Martha. I guess my heads are in the clouds bc I forget the different hats everyone wears. But seriously my level of care is not where others are and they made me feel like I was just being lazy. That wasn't the case. Btw forever After is doing a complete 180. The two are finally on the same page and the H has finally put her above his job which is now turning into something sweet with Sammy her little 4 year old

Another child, huh? Sigh! Does CA have kids in ALL her books? LOL

I wasn't criticizing you in the least re the issue you were having the aids, I hope you know that. I actually think we know each other well enough by now that you know I wasn't doing that, but I figured I'd say it just in case. Anyhow, it doesn't matter how busy they are. It wasn't cool of them to attack you. Like I said they too have the choice of working for an agency like you do. And their behavior stems from jealousy because you're not as busy as they are...or at least they see it that way. The truth is that having one client can be just as taxing, or even more so, than having several. I don't think I could be a private nurse, at the beck and call of one person. I guess if I HAD to do it I could--after all when you're desperate it's amazing what one can do--but I'd never WANT to do it. Yes, the work may be less physical, but mentally I'd think it was a strain, especially if you have a difficult client! I don't need to tell YOU that! LOL

I'd rather have a few where I don't need to dedicate myself to one person for my entire shift. LOL The exception is when I worked ICU and only had two patients. But then they were usually very sick and couldn't complain. The minute they started feeling better I'd look into having them transferred out. LOL OF course not all patients are complainers. Some are sweet and easy...they are a joy to take care of!

BTW are these the aids at the assisted living or the hospital? I know you were going to the hospital yesterday morning with your client, and I kindof assumed you were there the entire day.

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments No hospital aids and in a nut shell the problem I've pieced together is the son wants her out of the hospital bc of expenses. However she is not ready to back to her assisted living situation and the hospital and nursing home was trying to prove that she needed more help. It took most of the day for that to be proved but I was caught in the middle. It was all legalities I think. I hope she has kids on her books or at least all the ones I choose do

We are so opposite when it comes to kids in books. LOL I read books with them all the time, but I prefer there be none. I'm so anti-children. :-(

I don't necessarily seek it but I do think they add to a story. I liked a murder comes to pemberely bc they should them with a son. I just like how it can add to a story. I do like it better if is the H/h child but with CA books she draws me in bc the children are overcoming a traumatic experience. I love watching the H bond with them and protecting them.

Yes you weren't too far off at all. ROTFL Kids can add an element of sweetness to the story, like in CAPTURED BY A LAIRD, the interaction of the H with the h's daughters showed that he had a really sweet side. The one I just finished had girl 14, the H's cousin, who fancied herself in love with him. Poor thing. Anyhow, she was really jealous of the h and did some horrible things. She confessed and felt terrible about it, but I think she got off too easy. One prank she pulled caused a fire in the kitchen where someone could have gotten hurt trying to put it out. It was a big fire. The other nasty prank, she moved a pot of jam the h was making to make the jam burn. The h picked up the pot not realizing that it had been moved so it would now be hotter than she expected. She ended up dropping the pot and getting her hands covered with boiling hot jam. She sustained severe burns on both her hands. It took her about a week to recover and she was left with scars. So, she was seriously hurt and others could have been too...even more than just burned hands.

There were a couple of other things she did that were destructive, but didn't hurt anyone, well except for the h's feelings. She made the h look stupid and incompetent because everyone kept thinking it was the h causing the problems. For instance, with the fire the h had gone into the kitchens and moved a tray in the oven so the toast wouldn't keep burning. The kid moved the tray to such a much higher level so that it was too close to the fire. I was so annoyed. I kept telling myself, "this is why I don't like kids in stories." LOL On the other hand, her six year old sister was an absolute sweetheart!

It actually wasn't THAT bad. The h and H entered into a marriage of convenience, but they liked each other. The h was trying to fit in; to make a place for herself in her new home. She's extremely efficient and can do a lot of things; she's a vicar's daughter and is used to cooking, cleaning etc. Not the typical countess. LOL

At first THEY don't know it's the 14 year old who has been causing all the mishaps; I don't know why because it was pretty obvious. She was the only one who clearly didn't like the h. The even started to allude to the possibility that it was Clair who had been causing all the problems, but then bit her tongue not wanting to make unfounded accusations. I just couldn't understand why she did make a trap to catch the little wretch, or whoever was doing it. The h was so smart I figured she should have easily been able to do that.

Anyhow, after the h got burned Claire was very upset. She really didn't intend to cause any harm. She said she just wanted Ellie to leave. She had wanted Charles to wait for her. She had a major crush on him ever since he saved her and her pregnant mother from the poor house some six years earlier. I believed she was really sorry, but her punishment of cleaning up the hothouse--where she had killed tons of plants--just was not enough! That part was annoying. The H got so mad he shook her and said she should give him one reason why he shouldn't send her to the poorhouse. He was so upset over his Ellie being hurt.

But yes, I could have done without the teenager. The little one was a delight! She loved to run around and boss everyone around--even the H! LOL

Julia Quinn is definitely one of the best. She's an old favorite of mine from years past. BRIGHTER was a reread for me. I think I'm going to take my time and reread a few of her books. I wont make the same mistake I made with Julie Garwood's books where I reread them back to back. That became a bit much.

Anyway, I'm off to look for freebies! RU working today?

Okay ladies, here we go. This first one is listed as containing 121 pages, but I believe there are two novellas contained within. I'm not really sure what it's about; the book blurb is pretty thin and there are no reviews. I've copied and pasted the blurb for you.

All men are scoundrels. The Scoundrel Series details the lives of two young victorian women and the complicated love lives they lead as they face daunting adventures and step into this dangerous game. Will they find true love or will they be left heartbroken in this test of love.

http://smile.amazon.com/Scoundrel-Ste...

http://smile.amazon.com/Finding-Love-...

http://smile.amazon.com/Under-Sun-Rom...

I did some further digging. Each book included is sold as a stand alone. The first is PLAYED BY A SCOUNDREL and is about a h who' sister is newly married. While the sister and new husband are off on a honeymoon trip the husband's brother, the H, promises to look out for the h. The story is set in London with the two attending balls etc.

The second novella included is SECRETS OF A SCOUNDREL. It's about a h who embarks on an adventure that turns out to be more than she bargained for and she ends up having to rely on the H for protection. The H is a secret agent for the war office. Apparently he's loved the h from afar and gets a second chance at love while pretending to be a thief. The reviews for this one weren't very good. Apparently the book is badly in need of editing. That's too bad because the story sounds interesting.

FINDING LOVE BEYOND ASHES is about a h whose family falls on hard times when a fire leaves them homeless. She has to choose to either rebuild or sell their ranch, but has no money to rebuild. Help comes from an unexpected quarter, the new deputy in town. This is a new book; no reviews so far.

UNDER THE SUN is the perfect book for those of you who loves KIDS in your books! LOL It's a western; I think it's a modern romance actually, but I'm not positive in what year it's set. The h is a school teacher who is divorced with five year old twin sons. She takes a new job and moves to Montana where she meets a pair of mischievous twin girls and their handsome single dad. The H is 30; the h 27. FYI this is a novella of 58 pages.

That's it for today, ladies. Another short one. TTYL!

EB you told me a while back that you wanted to read the follow up to the short story, MARISSA BECOMING FOURTEEN. I had it on my price watch list; it was $4.99 at the time. Anyhow, it is now available for pre-order at the reduced price of $2.99. I'm not sure WHY it's a pre-order as I was under the belief that it had previously been released. Maybe this is an updated version, or maybe my impression was wrong. In any event, it's scheduled for release tomorrow. Here's the link.

OMG! Rachel it is BEYOND SAFE!!! We are told that the H was a bit of a rake. He meets the h when he falls out of a tree. LOL Anyhow, he's a bit tipsy at the time because he has only 15 days until his 30th birthday and he must marry by then or forfeit his inheritance--the unentailed property. He's an earl. He spontaneously propose to the h. Things go from there. The sweet thing about this book is how well the two deal with one another. They really like each other. No other woman at all; not even the mention of one. It's got a bit of a humorous bent to it. Have you ever read Julia Quinn before? She's one of my old favorites!

Anyhow, the h is feisty and fiery; she's a redhead. LOL There's a lot of controversy after they marry because of all the problems the 14 year old causes. Nothing serious; just Ellie keeps insisting that she's not the one who caused the fire and Charles is very indulgent and says things like "maybe you made a mistake. A new marriage can be distracting." And such. They don't have any serious marital issues. Basically the story is about two people who marry for convenience who must learn to adjust to married life. There are some accidents that occur to both that later turns out to be not "just" accidents as believed. I highly recommend it! And YOU are going to love Julia; she's the six year old. So adorable!

Make sure you grab the novella on the freebie list; the one with the double set of twins. ;-)

What was the name of the book your talking about? I just read the short read His Lady Peregrine and the h falls out of a tree while collecting feathers for her bonnets she decorates. LOL. Anyhow you know I love ornery redheads and kids and fidelity. I need to finish the books I got and yet I'm looking at more. I got my sons cake in the oven. He wants an Avengers cake. I told him moms good but I can not put all of them on the cake. I'm going to put the A symbol and see if I can find little action figures to embelish it. 13 is a big deal so I want to make it special. I would have liked to find an edible transparent to put on top of the cake but the store had none. I'm bummed about that but I'll make it work. Love my book and the villain in this book is dead but let me tell you this son of a bitch tortured the h with spiders. OMG I have such a fear of spiders myself and this basterd would put them in her clothes before she'd put them on and in between her bed sheets. He'd put them on her shoulder to freak her out. She is afraid to just climb into bed bc of the fear he created. The H ransacks the pillow cases to the point where she thinks he's lost his mind. He looks at her and says its spider free, your safe. She couldn't believe he made her smile bc she really hates herself bc of what she allowed him to do to her. It's funny. I can totally relate to the spider thing and if the basterd wasn't already wasn't dead I would have loved to see him suffer a slow and painful death. LMAO. TTYL

EB you are too amazingly talented! I wish I lived closer to you so you could make cakes and such for me. LOL

The book is Brighter Than the Sun by Julia Quinn. If you haven't read anything by Quinn, you've gotta try her. She's awesome! The H, an earl, literally falls from a tree almost on top of the h. He was drunk at the time. LOL The poor thing only had 15 days to get married or lose his inheritance.

Anyway, you would like this book, I think. The action stars on PAGE ONE, first sentence...the H falls on the h! The H is a handsome sexy rake, but not one of those hardened ones. He's just very successful with the ladies. But you only hear about his rakish ways with other women, you never see any of that. He's a total sweetheart. When his cousin's husband (at least I think she was the cousin, not her dead husband) died and left her with debts, he paid off the debts and took her and her daughter in. She was pregnant at the time. He also didn't really even know her. That's how wonderful he is! He's awesome with his cousins; especially the 6 year old.

YOU will love the h. She is no milk and toast miss! She has such a temper on her. The funny thing is that she CLAIMS she's normally very calm and level-headed, but the H brings out the worst in her. Those two spend so much time quibbling; it's very funny. Oh and he has the most adorable habit of making lists; for everything! One such list he made was entitled; FIVE WAYS ELLIE CAN MOVE HERSELF FROM THE STUDY TO THE BEDROOM. LOL That one he wrote when he wanted to get her to bed. ROTFL On item on the list was "hop." Charles is a mess! This is a really fun read.

That cake sounds awesome, BTW. Can you send me a pic when you're done with it?

That villain sounds horrible. I'd have had a heart attack. Creatures like spiders, lizards, frogs, all freak me out. I remember once when I lived in FL I put on my sneakers and felt something weird in one of them. When I took it off and looked inside there was a lizard in it. I screamed so loud and tossed the show across the room. I was so shook up I felt like I was going to have a heart attack. LOL

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I will post them here when it's done. This one will be nothing to his SpongeBob cake I made. The cake was a giant crabby patty and spongebob was chocolate on a dowel rod. I used the cake pan to pour the chocolate then when was on the stick it went down into the cake so he sat on top. I really liked how it turned out. I've done Cookie Monster, big bird, a kangaroo, mortal combat, a pirate ship, Godzilla, batman, the hulk, Rollie pollie Ollie. You know me and the crafts. I did an alien cake too. I'll have to post my others bc this one really is quite simple. I will try her book which reminds me I need to update my book from the library. I haven't got to London yet Kate. She's next when I get a moment. I'm almost finished with ca. I know I keep saying that but things are pretty hectic right now.

SIMPLE?! I can't wait to see what you consider simple. LOL Don't feel badly about not finishing your book. It took me FOUR days to finish BRIGHTER. I started it on Monday and posted an update Monday night; I was 63% done. It then took me another THREE days to finish the other 37%. LOL To be fair I didn't read at all on Tuesday; I don't usually because of my CCD class. Then Wednesday I just wasn't in the mood; not sure why. So, I only read a few pages. I still have that Sands book to finish; the one I was listening to. Anyhow, I'm gonna go pick up my little one. TTYL!

Oh my, EB! You did an awesome job. That A looks so authentic! I don't think YOUR eating a piece for ME is going to help, but I guess it's the thought that counts. LOL

Rach I'm glad I could provide you with some entertainment while at work. If you thought the hopping was funny, you're really gonna love Charles. His habit of making lists is so sweet. Ellie even picks up the habit. LOL
