Oooh .. did you read Cameron's book? Hart or the Duke's book was the one that you couldn't get into right?

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments I could not stand it from the start but I did not make it far. He is having a fling with a troll up and the h is in the room. I read a book by Ava Stone and I didn't mid it but this one I did. He was suppose to be your basic womanizing rogue and he just appealed to me the wrong way. Than his son Daniel was yet another and I actually listened to that on audio. I was so let down. The person who did Ian's voice sounded like spicoli from fast times at Richmond high. If you don't know the movie he sounded like a stoner. Really? It was an okay story but after the first two it was just hard to beat them. She's got a new book that just came out and it is a new series. I checked I did lend out AMFC already

OMG there is NOTHING sexy about Spicoli's voice LMAO!!!!!!!! Okay so I should read these two and stay away from the others. I am really over manwhores to be honest. Can I skip those and go from book 2 to the novella? It sounds like it's an all family affair in that one with no ONE couple that is singled out.

message 2306: by Elizabeth (new)

Elizabeth Bennet (janetspringer) | 1740 comments Yes bc quite frankly that is what I did. I only started both 3 and 4 and went to the Christmas one. Have you ever read Carla Kelly? Mrs. Drew Plays Her Handwas fantastic. My only complaint was it is a clean read. I was al juiced up for the couple and it went...and the next morning. I was like what? The kids in that book are so cute. The littlest girl with her banter with the H just stole my heart. I put it in my review I just remember it was so stinkin cute.

Then that's what I am going to do. I marked books 3 and 4 on my man-whore shelves and not-interested shelves LOL!!! I have that book that you mentioned above on my to-read list. I need a good romance with kids ;)

I am REALLY like Beth. I love that she puts Hart in his place - the bastard!!! LOL

Oh God, Kate! It sounds like your family has been plagued by viruses and flues this winter, just like mine. Ugh! I'm much better now, but still have a cough and the sniffles; nothing I can't live with.

I loved THE DREAMER too. I think I've read it twice. BLIND IMPULSE was pretty good too, but I have not as yet finished THE HEIRESS. I'm reading Brighter Than the Sun by Julia Quinn and listening to THE HEIRESS in between. LOL It's fun listening, but cannot take the place of my reading.

I haven't read THE COUNTESS as yet, but I can already tell that it will be a virtual repeat--or should I say THE HEIRESS is a virtual repeat--of THE HEIRESS. Or maybe that should be the other way around. LOL Anyway, I can tell that it will be a repeat, and necessarily so, considering how much of the earl and older sister's story is wrapped up in this book. Really, Sands would have been much better off if she'd just written the book about both couples at the same time and made it a bit longer. I want to listen to THE COUNTESS too because I'd like to get the whole picture of the romance between those two, but I am NOT looking forward to re-listening to that entire saga. I wish my library had the abridged version!

As for the third sister, I don't think I want to read her story. I read the reviews and the main complaint seems to be that she's a twit, and from having met her in this book, I can believe that. As a secondary character she's cute, but I can't stand a twitty heroine. LOL

Okay ladies, here are a few freebies.

http://smile.amazon.com/Unlikely-Duch...

http://smile.amazon.com/St-Nicholas-D...

http://smile.amazon.com/Dark-Lord-Tit...

http://smile.amazon.com/Hearts-Deligh...

UNLIKELY DUCHESS is about a hoydenish h and a stuff duke. You know the drill, but in this one there is the twist of a contract between the two families whereby the H is supposed to marry the older sister. It sounds like it might be one of those silly funny type stories. FYI the supposed arrangement between the H and the sister is very early nixed. Apparently the H tells everyone he will not be marrying her. Then the sisters travel to London for a season and the story progresses with the H falling in love with the oh so unsuitable younger sister. LOL

ST. NICHOLAS' DAY WAGER is a repeat on our freebie list for benefit of our new members. This one is about a H who enters a wager that he can marry the spinster sister of an earl by Christmas Eve. What stands out about this one is that the H is up front and honest with the h about the wager from the beginning. FYI the H and h have known each other since childhood. Oh and BTW the wager is the the h's brother...if I remember correctly he's pretty despicable. Ugh

THE DARK LORD is another Le Veque medieval romance. For those of you who have never read any of Ms. Le Veque's novels they are pretty safe. As a matter of fact, every one of her books that I have read, the H and h fall in love in the first part of the book--usually within the first 1/3rd--and then for the rest of the book they face some outside controversy. I've read about three of them and the H is always devoted the the h and there have been no other women. That is not to say that that is the case with all of her books. I have not read this one. Oh, her books are also always riddled with editing errors. Sigh. Really, the woman needs a good editor!

HIS HEART'S DELIGHT is another repeat freebie for benefit of our new friends. It's one of those light regency romances. The h is in love with her childhood sweetheart who is away at war. Her family forces her to have a season and I think they are trying to get her to marry another. The H has to take part in the season and is expected to marry. He is a younger son, but due to some negative family history, he is the one who is expected to produce the heir to the title, not his older brother. The h and H agree to pretend to be courting to keep everyone off their backs and end up falling in love.

That's it for today, ladies. Short, but hopefully sweet. TTYL!

Ladies, I got absolutely attacked this morning by an author because of my review of her book. It's the one I posted for SCANDALOUS WHISPERS. Here is the comment she left. I copied and pasted it. Can you believe her gall? I left her a response, of course. I'm going to post the link below so you can check it out if you want...EB I know you will read it!

Dear Reading Fanatic (Ms Anonymous),

Despite your claiming you liked the novella SW, unfortunately, charitable donations as a result of your review have been markedly lessened! I wouldn't ordinarily respond to a review such as this, but as you've chosen to reveal the whole plot under the guise Spoiler Alert, I guess you're feeling justly proud of yourself in spoiling the novella for other readers who may, or may not have purchased the book in due course. Please note, as an ex mainstream traditionally published best selling English author I garnered a good living from my past experiences within the traditional book market, but I "chose" and still "choose" to donate all proceeds from my self-published books (new pseudonym) to charitable organisations. See a major project, one of more to come: https://www.facebook.com/thechocolate... Not all authors of a philanthropic bent wish to wear their charitable stance on their sleeves at every turn, but we do our bit in the background, and at times such as this, one feels slighted by the vanity of unknown entities who choose to enact some strange sense of power play. In this case, it seems to convey a purposeful attempt to undermine the book's chances at garnering a readership. I do hope you have an ounce of charitable spirit and will kindly remove the spoiler! Yours faithfully, Francine Howarth - philanthropist who believes in Karma.

Erika wrote: "Oh my goodness Reading Fanatic! That is kind of crazy. People have the right to reveal whatever they want when they write a review. They don't even have to hide it in a spoiler if they don't want..."

Hey Erika! I know that many people don't like spoilers and I respect that, but I LOVE them, so much so that I actually seek them out. That's why I include spoilers; for readers who are like me and want them. And yes, I did put a spoiler alert at the beginning and end of the spoiler portion of the review so if someone didn't want the extra information they could skip it.

But I honestly don't think she's upset about the spoiler. She's mad because the stupid book only got 3 stars! I don't care what she says. And that blasted claim that MY review has MARKEDLY affected book's sales is beyond stupid! I guess she thought she could intimidate or guilt me into removing my review. That's actually kinda funny!

I don't even know how she can say my review affected the sale...I posted it YESTERDAY!!! LOL I do believe she owes me an apology, but quite frankly couldn't care less. I did tell her that I would avoid her books in the future and that she might consider that her attack on me will have a more significant impact on the sale of her book than my review. Readers don't like authors who don't respond well to negative reviews and some will avoid reading the book because of it. Oh well, she's an ass.

Thanks for the support, Cyndi, and welcome! LOL This has never happened to me before; and I write tons of reviews. I think she thought her comment about how she donates her proceeds to "so called" charitable organizations would influence my rating of the book. And I love how where she said "Not all authors of a philanthropic bent wish to wear their charitable stance on their sleeves at every turn, but we do our bit in the background..." I don't know how she can claim she doesn't wear her philanthropic endeavors on her sleeve, when she just announced that fact to anyone on the Amazon website who would care to read it. LOL

I know. Did you read my response? Here's a copy of it. Oh and another reviewer left a comment saying she too liked spoiler reviews and didn't appreciate the author's attack on me. I guess she decided to withdraw graciously...or should I say, quietly. ROTFL

Ms. Howarth,

While I commend you for donating the proceeds of your works to charitable organizations, I fail to see how that is relevant to my opinion about your book. Furthermore, for your information, there are many readers out there, myself included, who prefer to read reviews that include spoilers. My review is intended for those readers. Those who would rather not read spoilers have the choice of bypassing my review, or at least the spoiler parts. Furthermore, you may want to consider that your attack of my review may do more to harm the sale of your book in comparison to my review. My review after all, is but one reader's opinion about the book--an opinion, I might add, to which I am entitled--while your comment, as the author of the book, could be off putting to potential readers. Just an observation.

Furthermore, I have no idea how you can claim that charitable donations have markedly lessened because of my review. I posted it yesterday, and I sincerely doubt that I have that much influence--if any--over what the majority of readers here on Amazon choose to read. Finally, I beg to disagree with your claim that I have revealed "the whole plot under the guise Spoiler Alert." But then, we are each entitled to our own opinions, are we not?

I have never before been attacked by an author--or anyone else for that matter--because of my opinion about their book. This has been a most unpleasant experience, and one which I can hopefully prevent from reoccurring by avoiding your books in the future. Have a good day!

It was, but it's back now. I just found out when I got the email notification of your comment. Before that, when I tried to get to the book's product page I got a message saying "Document not found." I guess she had second thoughts.

Yes, she's an idiot. She claims she has an issue with the spoiler, that I have given away the entire plot in essence, but I think she's mad because I only gave the book 3 stars. Well I said I was giving it 3 1/2 but you know I can't give the actual 1/2 so I rated 3.

Can you believe she attacked me like that? And accused of getting off on a power play? Is she for real? She acts as though I'm some type of celebrity who has a talk show, or radio show, or some such where I go around influencing people's opinions about her book. What a hoot!

Right now he's across the street convinced he can do it himself. I mean really ladies a man who is not completely healed from having a difibullator put in do you think it's wise to send him in? I haven't gotten attacked in such a way yet but this author that I love named Keira Montclair wrote this book and I hated it and in my review was honest like RF. So this other lady comes out and starts complaining about my review being too long or something and being too harsh anyway I got back saying how the author would probably appreciate good and bad reviews and that I have bought all her books. Well in the book b4 last she stayed at the beginning she does not read people's feedback. Her last book when I finished my review she commented thanking me for the detailed review. I must have put it under anothers review but I thought it was under mine. It's got that funny box in the comment section. It asks if you have any questions about the comments. That box does not appear under every review so maybe they were deleted. Anyhow the book would have pissed you off Rachel. That is why I put what I did and an author who says she won't listen to feed back it is her failing not a reviewers for bringing it to their attention. Especially from a person who is a guaranteed sale. Be respectful.

I hear you EB. My husband is the same sometimes, then he gets me down. It's hard when you're trying to remain optimistic. Luckily Brian doesn't usually mope too long.

Yes Ken really needs to take care. A falling down house is one thing; it would be a lot worse if he were to have a serious relapse.

Oh please, EB. I'm over that nonsensical author. She claims she's incensed about the spoiler, but she attacks me personally. Did you get her digs at the fact that I am anonymous? I'm not sure if she's insinuating that I wouldn't have been as honest or as thorough had I not been anonymous. Whatever the case may be, she may find that others will avoid the book because she's been so nasty. I know I personally will never read another of her books! Authors are a dime a dozen, so even had she been a good one, I could have easily avoided her works and not missed a thing. The fact that I found her book a little better than mediocre just makes the avoidance easier.

My class kicked my butt as usual. Tuesday I don't get any reading done because of all the class prep and then when I get home, there is homework and all the evening routine; plus I'm tired! Maybe I'll get a few pages in before I go to bed. I'm almost done with Quinn's Brighter Than the Sun. Oh I guess I could always listen to some more of Sands' crazy book. I got caught up in BTTS and didn't listen to any of it yesterday.

I'll go check out your review. People are so stupid when it comes to reviews. Authors I can understand may get their feelings hurt when someone criticizes their work, but you can't take it, go into a different line of work. That's just the way it is. I always try to remember that an author is a person with feelings and keep my reviews polite, but that's just me. As for stupid friends and family, they really need to learn that they are not helping by attacking other readers who criticize a book. If I were an author I would tell my family and friends DON'T DO IT! It really reflects badly on the author and then people avoid the book because of all the stupid drama.

Actually Erika, I didn't have that one. I usually only post historical romances with CRs only every once in a while. I grabbed a copy of this one; it sounds good! I love second chance at love plots! Thanks!

Okay, I've tried to find DEVIL TAKES A BRIDE by London on Amazon and can't find it listed. I started to think I had the wrong title. I wonder what the deal is. I'll have to look it up here on Amazon.

Okay ladies, here are a few freebies for today. The first one is the CR that Erika so kindly told us about. I downloaded a copy for myself; it sounds good. It's about a h and H who were friends and one night became lovers. I'm not sure what happened, but five years later the H is back to try to "fix the mistakes" he's made with Julia. There is a villain of the piece would thinks Julia belongs to him and tries to cause problems. Here's the link. Thanks, Erika!!

A NOBLE PAIR OF BROTHERS is a 1800's romantic suspense novel. The H is in town visiting his brother, the vicar. He discovers an unsolved murder of a woman from the previous year and begins to investigate. During the course of his investigation he uncovers the possibility of two other murders in the town. FYI the H is a classics tutor, not a detective, but he is intrigued by the unsolved murder. The H's investigation causes some controversy among the townsfolk. The h is the daughter of a local baronet.

WHEN PERFECT COMES is about a h who is running away from her father's marriage plans for her. She encounters the H somehow. He is a pirate of sorts and ends up taking her away on his ship. There is mention of her having been taken hostage, so it seems she is the H's captive. Anyhow, please BE AWARE this is the first in a three part SERIAL! That means you will have to read the next two books to get a conclusion. I don't normally include these books on our list, but who know? One of you ladies may actually want to read it; enough so to shell out the money for the next two books.

LOVING SARAH is the third book in the Caversham trilogy. We've had books one and two on our list previously. The first book in the series was CAVERSHAM'S BRIDE. This last book is the story of Cav's little, half-sister, Sarah and how she finds her hero. Apparently Sarah stows away on the wrong boat when she tries to enter a boat racing competition with her brother. She ends up with her brother's business partner who is the heir to an earldom. FYI this is a race from London to NY apparently. The H and h end up being forced to marry during the voyage...probably because of the compromising situation.

JAKE is a western. It's about a H who is on the run and a h who slaves away in her family's mine in the hopes of finding gold so she can get away from her father's drunken fists. The H initially just wants to protect the h, but of course there is the complication of him being on the run. FYI his fiancee was murdered and he is wanted for that murder.

BANNOCKBURN BINDING is, er, a little different, shall we say? It's a time travel vampire romance. In a future time, there is an agency that controls the travel of time. This agency is run by vampires and humans alike...they co-exist. One of the aspects of the agency is to give tours of various moments in history. One female vampire guide takes a group back to medieval Scotland and ends up being captured by one of the Bruce men. Romance develops. HOWEVER, that is not it. A male vampire, a friend and former lover of the female vampire is sent back in time to find and retrieve her. There is a, ah, complication that prevents her from returning immediately so the three are stuck together. A romance develops between the three. NOW this is not the sort of book that I thought I'd ever read, much less like, but I LOVED it! The story was absolutely brilliant. And the way the trio ended up getting their HEA was unbelievable. All I have to say is, this author has an amazing imagination. Here's a link to my review in case you're interested in reading it.

That's it for today, ladies. TTYL!

Hi Elizabeth! I don't know if its good. I know that I want to read bo..."

Man whore, huh? I'm okay with that aspect, SOMETIMES! It really depends on the H's character and how he behaves after he meets the h and towards her. I don't like when they look at the h as just another conquest for instance, and I definitely HATE it when the h goes along with that. Ugh! I'm drawn to the story because it sounds like the H comes back to the h with the intent to make to her for whatever he did before, and he wants her back. I'm a sucker for that plot device.

Of course that's the impression I got from the book description, which so often can be wrong. It does sound good though. Thanks for the tip. I added it to the freebie list in case anyone missed your earlier comment.
