I finished Densley's book last night and tossed around how I would present my review. It is not as you may think. I was disappointed. I was left wanting and I hate that feeling. I have leafed through all the books I have and can't find one I want to start. I think you kind of set my mood for my next read. Your whole selling snow to the eskimo skills. LMAO. If it is loanable I am once again interested.

OMG! I hope *I* wasn't the one to mess you up!!! I know how horrible reading funks can be. OMG! Which was the Densley book? Please don't tell me it was STARTER WIFE! You were loving that one.
Yes, DEVIL'S PREY is loanable and I just sent it. Hopefully, you will receive the Amazon email in the next few minutes. If you hate it, don't feel you need to read it. I'm super curious to hear your reaction though...ROTFL I hope this works to take you out of your funk!!!

I felt like the rug was ripped out from underneath me because I just kept waiting with baited breath for a moment that never came. She has another book on here called The Valkyrie's Guardian but you can't get it on Amazon only here. So I talked with Amazon this morning and they told me that was up to the author and they will get in contact with the publishing house and then back with me. Amazon always makes you feel like your their #1 and said it would available for me (LOL) and they will back a hold of me. I have no idea about the price as I didn't think to ask so I don't even know if I will get it. I think all the kids and goings on did me in with the book. I think she's going to be like Kleypas for me and I'll stick to her period and highland stories. Thanks your my hero for the loan. LMAO!
BTW has anyone tried out the add photo with the Amazon review yet that you've seen?

I actually added pictures to a review I wrote. At first I didn't see the pictures--they didn't come up--even though the review went live. I think Amazon may have the pics go through a check before publishing them. Here's the link to my review. You can see the photos now. It's a really nice feature. Actually damn it, I just edited my review and now I don't see the pics. I wonder if I have to repost them, or if it will just take a while for them to be published. I'll have to check. Never mind about the link. I'll check it out and let you know later. I really do like the photo feature though.
OMG! EB I'm so sorry about STARTER WIFE. I know how much you were loving that book! Don't you just hate when that happens? You're reading a perfectly good book and then WHAM!...it ends sucky. It's funny because I was just wondering today which would be better, a great read that ends terrible, or a bad read that ends great! LOL
I was thinking about it because of your comment about HEALING ending well, so you'd forgotten about the whole kissing the "married" laird thing. I had to agree, HEALING ended nicely. I really liked Brenna and Quade as a couple.
I just borrowed The Virtuous Knight from the library. That's going to be my next read. I read the author's Bride of the Isle and loved it, so I'm hoping this one is just as good.
I hope that book doesn't end up costing you an arm and a leg. If you need a donation to the book fund, let me know! ROTFL BTW how is it going with DEVIL'S PREY? Good, bad, or indifferent at this point? Shoot, can you even start it? I remember you're in a slump. :-(

Without computers, netflix or hbogo they actually had to talk to one another. It's been a scary week for them. I took the little ones to the Bronx Zoo on Sunday just to get away from the whining.
RF Glad you had a nice time in Florida. How nice you were to do the freebie list when on vacation. Thank you.
I think I'd rather read a bad book with a good ending. Though if it's a truly bad book I probably won't get to the ending.
I finally got out of Scotland and read Something About Her--boring. The Holding a medieval by Claudia Dain --pretty good. I also read two dull novellas and then it was back to Scotland for me with Maya Banks's In Bed with a Highlander. Very good also.
In the Highlander one the the h is explaining to the H that she was taught all about sex at the convent where she was raised. She is sure you don't use your tongue when kissing because Sister would have told her so. This really hit home because my sex ed teacher was Sister Jean Marie. I'm surprised we were not all knocked up by senior year. Trust me she was a much better science teacher.
Not sure what I'm reading next. Have to go over my TBR pile.

Welcome back, Kate! I was starting to get worried. Yes, losing ones internet can be a crisis of astronomical proportions. LOL Glad to hear you liked IN BED. It was a favorite of mine too.
I was happy to do the freebie list while on vacation, but because I did the search on my Mom's computer with her account, I didn't immediately download the books that I wanted. Then I forgot about them. Today I discovered that a couple of the ones I wanted are back up to full price. Ugh! Oh well, that's life. It's not like I NEEDED another book. LOL
I'm actually perusing Howell's HIGHLAND CONQUEROR. I forgot how humorous that story is! It has me LOL. I love that book so much, and it was again available at my library, that I couldn't resist borrowing it for a second time. I won't be reading it completely though, just leafing through it before I go to bed.
I intended to start reading, THE VIRTUOUS KNIGHT, but it's a bit too late for that now. If I start tonight and really like it, I wont want to go to bed! Anyhow, gotta go try to get my little one down for the night. Toodles!

Yes, I totally understand. Especially after STARTER WIFE, which you were loving so much that turned sour. It's probably made you gun shy! Hopefully the same thing wont happen to you with DEVIL'S PREY. I think if you're enjoying the beginning; however, then you will be pleased. The author didn't screw up the storyline.

Um interesting, EB. I think I'm with Kate though. I'd rather have the bad book with the good ending...and by bad I don't mean terrible. Even though I feel a certain compulsion to finish a book one I've started it, I have, on one or two rate occasions, not finished a book in the past. So let's say mediocre with a good ending, is preferable over fabulous with a terrible ending. LOL

I was so mad I stopped reading Patterson. That's the best part of Historical romance. There is always a HEA at the end.

That's true Kate. But, don't forget COURTING TROUBLE, the freebie that I posted a week or two ago. There was no HEA, at least not in the traditional sense of romance novels. The h broke off her engagement with the guy she'd been pursuing and decided to remain a spinster. Her HEA was with God. It wasn't a bad ending, but I would have been mad as heck if I'd read that entire book only to have the h end up alone--well with God--I don't care how happy she was supposed to be. I mean it was marketed as a romance, so I expect a HEA between a woman and a MAN!
There was also another book. It was a freebie on Amazon a couple of months ago. OMG! The few reviews touted it as being such a great book. Well thank God for my penchant to read through the ending of a book before starting it, otherwise it would have been the read from hell. The H is married to the h's sister. He is the h's guardian. He has a mistress who he has decided to marry, after divorcing the sister, of course. The h decides to lure the H away from his mistress, then dump him, so that maybe he would go back to the sister. She ends up becoming his mistress--I'm not sure if he ever knew that she was his sister in law or if they met someplace neutral. It's not clear from what I read if he'd ever met the h, even though he was her legal guardian. The H asked his best friend to keep an eye on the h--I think he was suspicious of her or some such--who she ends up sleeping with also. By the end of the book, she was married to the best friend, had a child for the H (is he really THE H at this point?) and her sister is sentenced to hang for some crime. At the very end, the h is happy with the friend, but mourning what was lost with the H (if I remember correctly she had lost her memory at some point in the story.)
Now how is that for a BAD ending?! I was never so glad to read the ending of a book as I was in that case. The blurb gave NO INDICATION of the hot mess the story would end up being. What I usually do is read the end; if there is anything questionable I will go back a little further into the book until my suspicions are either allayed or verified, at which point I make the decision to read or not to read. LOL

**SPOILER ALERT!** So, I read the ending of PIRATE'S PROMISE. The h is eight months pregnant when the H returns--they were separated for a while. They wait until she has the baby then get married. Consequently, the baby is illegitimate. It seems to me the author didn't do the necessary research to determine that in that era unless a child is born WITHIN wedlock it is considered a bastard, which was a heavy label to bear in those days. A marriage between the parents after the fact, did not change the child's status to legitimate. It was a bastard and would always be considered one.
I was hoping this was a later time period, maybe the early 1900s, but no, it was the Regency period...1802 to be exact. Already I'm irritated and this error, although it appears small is, IMO, a grievous one and leads me to wonder if the author made any other grievous errors in the story, such as INCORRECT TITLES AND FORMS OF ADDRESS!!!! ROTFL Needless to say, this book isn't making it on my TBR list any time soon, if ever. I have too many other books to read to attempt one that I suspect will end up aggravating me no end! I'm not a historical purist by any means, and I am always willing to allow authors to twist historical facts to suit the story, so long as it serves a purpose and isn't too grievously erroneous. In this instance, there was absolutely no reason for the h and H to wait to marry. I've read a few historical romances where the H drags a priest to the h's bedside, while she is in labor, so they can marry before the baby is born and be legitimate. LOL
The fact that the author didn't even recognize the issue of bastardy--or if she did chose to ignore it--IMO, speaks volumes as to her ignorance of the time period in which she set her story. I know I'm ranting, but I can't help it! Did I mention that the H is the heir to a dukedom. Would he have really taken the chance that his heir would be born a bastard?!

Who remembers this conversation with Sigimore in Howell's HIGHLAND CONQUEROR? Sigimore is telling Jolene what his sister was told about the marriage bed by another woman...here are the rules for a married lady:
1. No getting naked
2. No touching above or below the waist
3. It should be "verra" dark
4. The woman should remain beneath the covers
5. Best to close her eyes so that she doesn't risk seeing your husband's flesh
6. A few kisses are allowed, but the woman must keep her lips sealed, as ladies do not allow the common, uncouth practice of using one's tongue
When Jolene asked exactly what the wife *is* supposed to do, Sigimore responded "endure." LOL Can you imagine?
No wonder married men had mistresses, for as much as poor ladies were being told this nonsense, the men too were raised to believe that gently-reared ladies did not enjoy sex, thus they were to impregnate them for the sake of the family, but for carnal pleasure they had to keep lovers outside the marriage. Ugh!
This reminds me of an erotic book I once read...it's super short; Of Love and Lust. I loved it because it was an erotica between a married couple. The husband dearly loved his wife, but because he was overeager on their wedding night, he hurt her terribly. Now, four years later, he only allows himself to visit her in her bedchamber when he can control himself. Otherwise, he spends night after night in a sexual stupor, desperately trying to control his lust for her. LOL What I really liked is that the writer made it clear that the husband did not cheat, even though he and his wife only had sex for the sake of an heir. Anyhow, the story takes place at a house-party, where because of circumstances, hubby picks up on his wife's cues that she'd be interested in something more than they usually do, and they have a wild night of heart pumping sex! It was such a sweet story; I really loved it. Hey EB, you might actually enjoy that one too. It's super short, so there isn't a whole lot of depth to it, but then I wasn't looking for that when I read it. LOL
Well, I don't know why I'm so chatty this morning. I really need to be preparing for my class. Actually, I was just taking a quick break. I'm headed back to that now. I plan on giving the kids hell today...we will NOT be having another disruptive class like we did last week. Wish me luck!!

EB, this first one is book 2 in that faerie series--you read book ..."Okay if it wasn't god awful I would choose the HEA. The Devil's Prey BTW is definitely troublesome because I get what you meant by a modern feel. Cassandra is a sheltered, gently bred lady but she is acting like a flat out whore to what a woman of those times would. She was attacked, brutally beaten and had unthinkable things done to her and she has a man who she just learned he could tolerate and she asks him to scrub her back. I wasn't buying it. The H is adorable so I will let things slide but why didn't the author just write a modern novel. Other than being on horse back nothing really reflects the period. I'm not a prude you know but I think the author should have made the H/h previously engaged or an understanding between the two the have the story take off that his plans were to offer at her coming out but he was delayed and then abducted that would have been a better story. Woman of that time did not just allow men to kiss them in bed and scrub their backs in the back or even brush their hair on a bed. Because of the circumstances they were limited but a woman would have went to bed with a dirty back she made no mention of feeling soiled, which a lot of rape victims do, even worse this woman was sodomized and she has not reacted to fit the crime. I am not stopping my reading just pointing out inconsistencies in the book. :)

To know that it could have been avoidable would really piss me off.

The funny thing is EB, that the bastardy isn't addressed at all. I think in the author's mind the child isn't illegitimate, as it wouldn't be today, once the parents marry. Bit that's today. Back then no amount of marriage vows would change the fact that the child was born out of wedlock.
It shows the author's lack of knowledge of the time period, or maybe she just didn't care. Either way, for a reader like me, even though I'm guessing I'm supposed to assume the child's is legitimate, I know better and so it bothers me even though the author doesn't make it an issue. That's annoying!

Yes honestly that bothered me too. She didn't react the way I would expect a rape victim to , especially one who was as sheltered as she was. But as you say, the H is absolutely adorable! I really loved Ian. And the two are cute together.

I have read plenty of books and felt the pain from the character who was never accepted because they were a bastard. It would be horrible and a lot of times that is the authors direction with a story to show the bumps in the road for a H or h and they grow stronger from it and make something of themselves. The author just throwing it in there for any other reason and treating it as though there is no significance is insulting and lazy on the authors behalf.
So I just finished reading the novella, A Silent Yes: a novella. It was on the freebie list a day or so ago. OMG! It was so adorably cute! The H is the song silent type; he's not one for fancy words. I really like him.
He and his younger brother are farmers and manage the family farm together. The h is literally abandoned on their porch step, burning up with fever. They nurse her back to health. Once she awakens, they discover she really doesn't have anywhere else to go, so she ends up staying with them.
Of course her staying alone with two single men isn't the done thing, so the brothers literally have up their three bedroom house to the h, while they sleep in the barn. So tweet! Anyhow, the circumstances leads to a marriage between the h and H. The h thinks it's a marriage of convenience, but the H wants more. Of course, he's not a talker, so how to communicate that to her is a challenge for him.
The story does have a Christian aspect, but is not preachy. It's also clean--no sex. The H is attracted to the h from the very beginning, but it was refreshing not having to read about how hard his manhood was on every other page! LOL. It's super short, so there isn't a lot of character development or details to the story, but I still found it very satisfying. BTW it's set in the west, in the 1880's I think. It's still listed as free on Amazon.

That's exactly how I feel too! I was super surprised when the story skipped to the wedding scene and it said their two month old daughter was in attendance. I was like, what?! He didn't immediately rush the h off before a preacher when he discovered she was pregnant?!
I also didn't like the fact that the H was gone for SIX MONTHS--he ran away became he was afraid of his feelings for the h, typical bullshit!--and when he returned, as soon as he said I love you, she fell in his arms like a sack of potatoes!!! He should've had to have worked a little harder as far as I was concerned. Oh, but SHE did sure HIM that she didn't want him for his money or his title and told him that he mustn't think that. And he said, of course he didn't think that. I didn't get why she felt the need to reassure him, when HE was the one who had abandoned HER for SIX MONTHS!!!! UGH! I definitely won't be reading that book! LOL

Just finished reading Seduction of a Highland Lass a shining example of a mediocre story with a great ending. In fact the ending saved it. Up until then the story was pretty humdrum. Though I will say she writes a pretty credible sex scene. Makes me wish I was 50 again. Or that my husband was. Illegitimacy was a big issue until the late 1950's. Even "early babies" were frowned upon. No one would have had their 2 month old attend the wedding. I doubt the preacher would have allowed it. That said I'll be skipping Pirate's.
So where to next? Not sure. Maybe a novella. Might try that A Silent Yes. I'm ok with Christian if they don't hit you over the head with it. In fact I like Mary Connealy who is a Christian writer. She did a series about three goofy brothers who are a pushover for a girl with a hard luck story that made me laugh out loud. But I admit that's because I have thee goofy grandsons who are pushovers for a girl with a hard luck story.

Haha Kate. That hilarious re your grandsons. I guess all young men must go through their stupid phase. Girls too, for that matter. LOL.
So that's the "no's" for PIRATE'S huh? Interesting how everyone just didn't like the illegitimacy issue...which for the author was a non-issue. There's also the fact that there would've been a HUGE scandal when the h turned up pregnant and unmarried. Yet she was happily ensconced in her parents' country estate without a care in the world...well other than a missing hero that is. LOL
I just posted my review for A SILENT YES on Amazon. I thought it was a lovely story. Very low key and easy to read. Not an epic, but satisfying nonetheless. Um Seduction of a Highland Lass, huh? I'm curious, so I guess I'll check it out, although I won't be reading it!...not after your ringing endorsement. LOL
I have yet to start The Virtuous Knight. That's because I don't like to start a full-length novel too late at night, because if it's good then I'll stay up late reading and THAT is NEVER a good idea for me!...at least not on a school night. Sigh.
I confess I sneaked and read A SILENT YES today in between preparing for my class. I'm happy to report that today's class was much, much better. Although it was a bit of a let down as three of my students were absent...there were only seven today. I have an eleventh one, but he's home schooling for the first few weeks of class. He's supposed to be joining us some time in the next week or two.

I know what you mean about starting a novel late at night. That's why I'm thinking novella. If I start something I like now I'll be up until 2 3 in the morning. No self discipline. I'll keep glancing at the clock and thinking " just 1 more chapter" or 'just 20 more minute". Stepping out of the historical arena for a moment. Have you read Escape by Carolyn Jessop. It's a true story about a women who escapes from a polygamist cult with her 8 children. It was hard to sleep after reading it. This was in 2003 and it still happens. I don't understand how they get away with it. Anyway it was an interesting book on an appalling subject.
Your class sounds fun. When people tell me teachers make too much money I always say "yeah go teach one class on anything and get back to me". I have a good friend who retired recently from teaching HS English in the Bronx. They would have needed a gun to get me into that classroom. She never complained though. Not even when her car was stolen. Twice.

The book you lent me with the adorable H pulling the bed pan out from under the bed to finish his deed was like...really?
I got an e mail from someone on my Starter Wife review and so I was looking and Amazon has my review as the good VS. Bad review. I'm the bad one. LOL! This is the 3rd time I know of that I have been in that. I never seemed to be picked for the pro. One would think I'm a tyrant. LOL! I will say though the ones I get upset about end up being better reviews.

My grandparents were rebels for their time and it wasn't until my grandfather passed that my youngest aunt was adding my mother's age and the length of my grandparents marriage to realize grandma had a bun in the oven on her way down the aisle. LMAO!
You have to know growing up I put my grandparents on a pedal stool of sorts. To me they were the perfect saintly couple. Grandpa worked hard to support all 8 kids and grandma was a domesticated goddess able to work miracles at stretching a penny and putting great food on the table. My mother was the love child and was born in 1946 and it was never a question of marriage so to be so clueless about the importance of a fathers last name. That's pretty major IMO.

Haha that's so true EB. That because you get so worked up about the book that you just spew it all out. LOL. I hope the email was a friendly one and not a rude comment, as is so often the case on Amazon! Kate, yes my clash is fun! And which IDIOT told you that teachers make too much money?! Anybody who believes that is completely clueless! I agree, teach one class, any class, and then come back and talk to me about the money teachers make. LOL.
EB it doesn't sound like DEVIL'S PREY is doing it for you. Sorry. LOL. To be truthful, I forgot about all the little negative nuances in the story, like the bedpan scene. I was actually wondering why I had only rated it 2 1/2 stars, because I have such fond memories about the story, and I was considering upping it to 3. Guess I'll be leaving it alone now.
BTW no one commented on my comment re the rules for the marriage bed for ladies, as they were laid out in HIGHLAND CONQUEROR! I know you both read the book...do you remember the scene? I left the comment earlier this morning.

EB remember I THEE WED by Amanda Quick, the one where she had the illegitimate hero carrying his father's surname? That just did not happen back then, not even when the father acknowledges the child. And in that book, the H's father never acknowledged him as his son. Quick certainly played fast and loose with the rules in that book--although I will admit to nevertheless loving the story.
I totally agree though, that to be clueless about such an important issue is a major faux pas on the part of an author of historically set novels.
Your grandparents were scandalous, EB!!! I'm shocked! ROTFL

I just thought hers this young virgin who has just been attacked having a man she barely knows performing oral and than after as if that would have been shocking enough for her he pulls the bed pan out. This girl knows nothing because she asked him if it would hurt when they actually went all the way plus there is talk of being together forever but no proposal. I still need to find out how it ends but the author should have made it present day. On the other hand I just found out that the brother was trying to play match maker between the two before her abduction. I did like that element. I'm not sure why so don't ask. LOL!
Has anyone heard from Noreen?

They didn't get far. This was the same grandma who crocheted and sewed every wardrobe and afghan in her house. Cooked everything from scratch, canned most of her food. Hell, my brother lent my cousin (who was adopted by my grandparents)a record of ACDC's Highway To Hell and I remember him going through the roof on my brother and all along they were these crazy horny teenagers. It's just hilarious to me. My youngest uncle was only 9 months older than my oldest brother too. SCANDALOUS. ROTFLMAO.

Yes it was Howell's HIGHLAND CONQUEROR. No I've heard nothing from Noreen for a couple days now. I hope everything is ok.
Ya I forgot the h's brother wanted her and Ian to meet. Obviously he was right to think they were well suited. I agree that it should've been present day. I was really upset when I read it, because it could've so easily been a fabulous book with just a bit of historical accuracy. The modernism was just too much.
Your grandparents are a hoot. I bet they were well behaved and oh so proper when you were growing up, their kids too. By then their rebel days were well and truly behind them, safely tucked away. ROTFL. I'm telling you, that's the way it is. I know my mother tried to play the innocent with me when I was growing up. She acted like she'd never done anything wrong, only to find out she was a terror as a teenager!!!

Oh Kate, I'm glad to hear you liked SILENT. Yes I thought it was a really cute story too; nothing earth shattering, but wonderful for what it was. OMG! You're definitely a kindred spirit! That's what I do too when it's close to bedtime and I need to start a new book...I either read a short story or I reread and old favorite. Hope you didn't get to bed too late.
I was shocked when, as a young woman, I discovered my mother hadn't been a virgin when she married my father! What?! After all the lectures about premarital sex?! I told her she was a phony! She was very non-repentant when she said "it worked didn't it? I was trying to prevent a teenage pregnancy." ROTFL

Ok ladies, here's today's freebie list.
http://www.amazon.com/Ravenstone-Chro...

http://www.amazon.com/Theft-Dukedom-L...
http://www.amazon.com/Winters-Knight-...

http://www.amazon.com/Name-Only-ODono...
http://www.amazon.com/Merriweathers-M...
http://www.amazon.com/Love-Faithful-R...
That's it for today. The list is really short because I'm working with a handicap--no computer! FYI I've read A CONVENIENT BRIDE, and pretty much hated it. It was way too modern for me...and I'm by no means a historical purist who requires every historical detail to be accurate. But I know we're all different, so I figured I'd add it to the list for anyone who may be interested in it.
I do remember there were other issues with the book...with the storyline, to be specific. **SPOILER ALERT** For one, the h and H had slept together when they were younger and the h's attitude about the entire affair was way too blase for the time period. The H's father is the h's legal guardian, so she has lived with them for a number of years. She and the H are friends, but she secretly loves him. Unfortunately, he is a womanizer of the first order. The h does not want to become just another of his sexual conquests, which is why she acts as though it was no big deal that they slept together.
Another thing I didn't like was the fact that the H was always sharing stories about his sexual exploits with the h...again, too modern. No gentleman would discuss such things with a gently reared lady. The H is irresponsible--actually he's a bit immature, not my favorite type of hero--and his father decides it's time for him to grow up, so he forces him to get married. The H chooses the h as his bride, but has to convince her to accept. By the time I got to this point I was so annoyed I just skipped ahead to the end and flipped through a few other pages, before tossing the book aside. A rare DNF for me! You can check out my review...I might've forgotten a few other complaints as it's been while since I've read it. I think there might've been a problem with the actual writing too, now that I think about it, but I'm not sure. I do remember the H really cared about the h, but after the way she acted when they had had sex, he thought she didn't feel the same way about him, so continued with just being friends. That part was kind of sweet, but the H was too much the lesser character to the h. SHE was the strong one. **END OF SPOILER**
Also you should be aware that LOVE IS FAITHFUL is the second book in a continuing series. I only added it because I didn't know if any of you already owned book one and would welcome a free copy of book two...I think book one was offered for free a while back. Usually, if a series looks interesting to me, I will wait and download each book as they become available for free. What can I say? I'm a cheapo! LOL
And yes, this is the THIRD time I've added WINTER'S KNIGHT to the freebie list. That's because the first time it was added as an addendum, and I wanted to make sure no one missed it, and the second time, when I clicked on the link in the freebie list I kept getting one of those messages telling me the webpage was no longer valid. So I decided to add it AGAIN. It's a really cute novella, if a bit quick.

Hey EB, you're most welcome. Not sure how you feel about it overall, but at least you were able to read something! LOL You should try A SILENT YES next, although it may not really be your thing. It's set in 1884 Kansas. The hero is a farmer. It's a really sweet story though, so you might enjoy it.
Which book were you referring to when you said "I have that book"?...HIGHLAND CONQUEROR or SEDUCTION OF A HIGHLAND LASS? FYI, I finally started THE VIRTUOUS KNIGHT. I'm at chapter four, and so far so good. The poor man starts muttering prayers in Latin every time he looks at the h, in an attempt to ward off "sinful" thoughts. Let's just say he's been praying a lot and they've only been together a few hours. LOL The H intends to take vows as a monk when he's done with his quest...he's a widower mourning the death of his wife and young son.

You know me the sex was fine it was the story line that sucked. Now understand that the H was great and the brother well. The h being raped and then wanting to be adventurist was hard for me to swallow although I did have a friend who had molested and she was became pretty promiscuous. Overall I think the author lacked research and that is where she failed the chemistry and sex part I was fine with. The length of time she allowed the h to heal not. I'll write more later I am in a rush and have to go.

Okay sorry about that but my lovely niece took me to get a massage. It was wonderful. I had this guy named Matt and he did a good but light on his feet. LMAO! Anyhow I'm going to do my review later but what I was saying was the h had no modesty what so ever which did not back up what the author tells us in the beginning of the story. *******SPOILER******************
When the villain traps her at the end of the book and tears open her nightgown she runs in her brothers room down the hall never closing the now torn rag and grabs his pistol runs back to the doorway and stands waiting for her shot. At no time does she try any attempt to cover herself and I'd have to say even I live in 2014 and I'm pretty sure I would at least attempt to cover myself with all kinds of people about. The sex though was good so it wasn't a total loss. ROTFLMAO
Good morning ladies! Here are a few freebies for today. I'm still sans computer, so again the list will be short. Sigh

That's going to be it for today, ladies. FYI, the last one is an erotic novella of sorts. I read it and liked it...it was a sweet treat. LOVE'S RECKONING one is one that usually sells for around TEN BUCKS! So grab it while you can, if you're interested. I see that that author's books usually sell for anywhere from five to ten dollars. She's the one that wrote The Colonel's Lady, a book that was a freebie for only one day! So I'm assuming RECKONING will be back to full price by tomorrow.

EB please you don't EVER have to apologize about rushing off for a massage. I completely understand and am absolutely pea green with envy. LOL
I'm sorry the book wasn't a better read for you, but I'm glad it got you out of your slump. At the end of the day, that's the most important thing, isn't it? I thought maybe you would enjoy it more than I did because I know you're not as bothered ad I am by a modernish aspect, but I guess this one was just TOO modern! It's too bad though, because at the heart of the book is a really sweet story--if only the author hadn't ruined it with the lack of research! Ugh

So I'm more than 60% in reading VIRTUOUS KNIGHT and I'm loving it! The couple is married now and our celibate hero is having sex like a fiend, yet he's still torn about his vow to become a monk. I love the story, but if one of your pet peeves is the mourning a dead wife, you might be annoyed!!

It was sent to me by the author Elaina Lee and I thought I'd read it real quick. The book wasn't even listed on goodreads so I had to create it and add an image as well. That was pretty fun. I also got the book on today's freebie list called the Key and The Model Husband they sounded good so that will be my next read. I also got Love's Reckoning because it looked like it was going to shoot up to 14.00. That is crazy.
I do hate a love sick H stuck on an ex. Too bad for that. TTYL!

You too huh? Lark hates when the hero mourns too long over a late wife too. LOL But really, in this story it's more about the vow to become a monk than it is the dead wife and child. .. did I mention he lost his son as well? But yes, the mourning and the vow are all tied up together. Also the entire story takes place over about a two week period, so to be fair that's not that long of a period to go from I'm heartbroken over the loss of my child and wife to, I'm so in love with this new woman I'll give up my life plans for her. Of course when you're reading a three hundred page book and the hero is conflicted on and off for about 250 of them I can see how it could get a bit tiresome for some people. ROTFL

So I guess my next question is how long has it been since the wife's been gone. I would weigh that and then my concern would be if the majority of the book is spent with him feeling guilty and missing the wife. If the book has a lot of conflicting emotions than I really would become annoyed. A little turmoil is okay but the whole book or even 3/4 of a book is too long to make up your mind. Go or get off the pot, as my mother would say. LMAO! I am really loving this book I am reading it's a modern based book but it takes right off out of the gates and the couple are spies. A really entertaining story and the sparks between the pair is there alive and well. LOL!
