There is another series that gets rave reviews - The Bronze Horseman, I am SORRY but that is not romantic. The only safe book I think is the second book and between the events in the first book and the events in the third, omg how is that romantic?!? And it has RAVE reviews! I already read and reviewed Razing Kayne :)
Oh no he hits her so hard across her face that his ring scares her face. His brother raped her and he believes his brother. Seven years later his brother is on his death bed and confesses the truth. So this jackass goes back to her and she confesses that she is in love with him. No apology or nothing. There are still reviews coming up that are saying how good it is. Really? The reviews were on Amazon not on here. I forgot to mention that. I read and commented on your review. It was very well written and I like the fact that you wrote out the things you liked about it. Those are the reviews I like to read not these two lined reviews that seem to be popping up on Amazon. LOL
Elizabeth wrote: "Oh no he hits her so hard across her face that his ring scares her face. His brother raped her and he believes his brother. Ugh Thanks for complimenting my review! :)

I will. A lot of my older reviews are amazon do you review there too or just here? I was scanning through your book shelves. You weren't kidding about how you separated them. Man that must have taken you forever but I like. RF has reviewed over 1,000 books and she is very precise like you are. I'm going to get my kids off to bed. I'll talk to you in tomorrow. I'm so glad you joined I think we're all going to have a good time.

I do too and I"m am about to turn in myself to get a good rest before work tomorrow! :) I only just recently started writing more detailed reviews, but I am really liking the process. I don't usually review on Amazon as well because I don't usually get too many books from there :)
Hi Rachel! Welcome to our little group! I swear it was just this morning--a few minutes ago--that I was thinking how nice it would be if we got a few more people to join the group, and here you are! LOL Anyhow, let me see if I'm all caught up on you and EB's discussion...You hated the synopsis for THE WRONGED WIFE. BTW the "hero" not only beat and scarred his wife because he thought she had been unfaithful, but he also KILLED her unborn baby, and because of the beating she can no longer have children! What a hero, huh?! The only reason he goes to take her back is because his brother finally confesses to the rape on his death bed, otherwise presumably, the so-called H would have never taken her back. Oh, during the seven year separation he refused to allow her to correspond with their daughter.
You method of shelving your books sound awesome! I too prefer that there not be another man or woman in the story; Well I'm okay with another woman trying to cause mischief, but I don't like it if/when the H or the h is engaged to, or seriously involved with, a third party.
And BTW EB, I saw your comment under Rachel's review about me not liking children in my book. I feel so maligned!! ROTFL Am I not about to read Captured by a Laird which has TWO children in it? Oh and they are the HEROINE'S children, not the H's. And Kate, I know about the six children they had; I read the end of the book as usual. LOL I've read tons of books with kids and loved them, I just prefer there be none, but I won't not read a book because of the kids. Y'all are never gonna let me live this down!!!!
Ya Penny sent me a rec for THE PLAYER. I know what you mean, I too am hardpressed to shell out six bucks for a book. Funny that, because in my younger days I'd routinely buy several books at 8 dollars a pop. Those were the days--pre kids. LOL But that's why I ended up paying $4 for THE OVERLORD'S BRIDE because I could not find a free copy to borrow anywhere!! I'm going to add PLAYER to my watch list to keep an eye out for a sale, but if it's really popular that may not happen.
Anyhow, I'm off to check out the freebies on Amazon. TTYL ladies!

Anyone remember THE MARRIAGE LIST? LADY IONA'S REBELLION is the sequel to that story. Lady I was introduced in LIST and was the best friend to the h. The hero of LADY I was also in that first book; he was the hero's best friend.
I believe we've had LEGACY on our freebie list before; although I cannot remember exactly when.
MY STEADFAST HEART is the first in a trilogy...it is a standalone. The trilogy is about three brothers, each of whom finds love. In this first book, big brother Colin intends to get his revenge against the Earl of Weyborne. The h is the Earl's niece and works as his estate manager and caretaker of his children. Overall reviews are good. There is only 1 negative 2 star. EB you might wanna check out that review because the H has some questionable behavior. Apparently he makes the h sleep with him. But I should also mention that the person who wrote the 2 star review seems to be an extremely picky reader. Of her several reviews a ton of them are 1 or 2 stars. So, I'd say take her complaints with a grain of salt. The book is free so I might download and do some investigation. I'll let you know what I discover. LOL
AN UNTITLED LADY is a bit different. The h is of the merchant class and the H is the second son of an Earl, but he has chosen a life of trade over Society. There is some strife between the h and H; it seems the H's business is putting the h's father out of business. Also, she had intended to marry an earl, but for some unknown reason had to abandon those plans and settle for the H. Wow! I just read Romance Reviews review for this book. It really lays out the plot for you. Apparently it is way more complicated than indicated in the blurb. Here's the link.

A LAND TO CALL HER OWN may be a Christian romance. There is mention of the H finding Christ in the blurb. Anyhow, it's a western; new book, no reviews so far. The author only has one other book listed on Amazon.
WHEN LOVE CALLS is set in the early 1900's America. The H is a call girl--get your minds out of the gutter, she's not THAT type of call girl, she's a telephone operator. LOL The H is an attorney with whom the h works to try to prove the innocence of a friend who is accused of arson. The problem is that while she is in training as an operator there is a rule of no consorting with gentlemen. Apparently the h has problems following rules and this time is no exception. LOL Oh, FYI Rachel, the first reviewer makes reference to the "two men" who are angling for the h's affections so it sounds like this book might meet your OM/OW criteria. LOL Although I'm not sure how serious of an impediment this other man is; he may be the friend who is accused of arson--he is said to be a childhood friend.
LUCKIEST MAN is book four in the Trahern series. Kate I know you've been reading and loving those.
DEVLIN'S DESTINY is an extremely interesting book. The H is the h's "book boyfriend." LOL He is the H in her all time favorite book. Sound familiar? The H is described as a "sinfully sexy Scottish laird." One day the h wakes up in a medieval castle and comes to realize that she is now IN her favorite book! She is now starring as the heroine. Of course there are some major twists and turns and one wonders how this book will turn out...the h's book AND ours. LOL It's a short book, only 84 pages.
MARALIE is a mess. There is a rule in the western town that single men have to marry from "the board." The board has a list of available single women living in town. The h is newly arrived and is placed on the board. She and the H marries. He doesn't really want to marry as he has recently lost his first wife--who was also listed on the board. Honestly, the who thing sounds crazy! LOL Apparently the town is dying so the Mayor comes up with the idea to entice single men to the town by offering them land, with one stipulation--they must marry a female listed on the board. There is mention of another man showing up who stirs feelings in the h, so I'm not sure if this is another with a OM. LOL The first review is short, but informative.
ALL ABOUT REDEMPTION is a new book; no reviews. It's a western about a H who ends up in the h's bed by mistake and is then forced to take responsibility for her. She is an orphan who lives with her relatives. She works as a bar maid and is physically abused. The book blurb describes the scene where the H awakens in the h's bed to find her being whipped by the bar's own--presumably he is a relative to the h. I'm thinking she's getting whipped because she has a man in her bed, but that's just speculation.
LOST IN TIME I and LOST IN TIME II have been on our freebie list in the past. They are both time travel romances. In book one a 15th Century Scottish lass gets sent to the 21st Century. In book 2 h is a modern day girl who gets thrown back to 15th Century Scotland. She's ex-military. LOL BTW I never did figure out how these two books are connected, but they must be. The hs in both books share a name. In book one, the h is Isobeille Aislinn McKenna. In book 2 her name is Aislinn Isobeille McKenna. All they did was switch the order of the first and second names, which leads me to believe that these stories are closely connected.
That's it for today, ladies. The last four titles on the list are repeats. I included them for the benefit of our newest member and for anyone who may have missed them in the past. Rachel, you mentioned that you don't buy too many books on Amazon, where do you usually get your books? TTYL, ladies!

Lol RF I did tell her you liked the kids in Carla Kelly's book. There was one I recommended that you turned down bc of kids. I can not remember which one. I also had forgot the H made her miscarry and make her barren. Do you know if you have the kindle app on an iPad can someone lend you a book and have it open up under kindle app?

Oh yes. You definitely do not need to have a Kindle in order to borrow books. My mom reads with the Kindle app on her Ipad. I loan her books all the time. Did I turn down a book because of kids? Which one? There must have been something else beside the kids. I'm not that bad, am I? LOL

You're a NUT! LOL I'll THINK about forgiving you for the slight. LOL I didn't think I'd not read a book only because of the kids. I do remember you read a book a while back where the h had a bunch of kids and said something about there being too many blasted children, but that's not the reason I didn't read it. If I remember correct it was a CR and that was before my CR craze! LOl

Yes and how is your CR craze? You still feel burnt out? I'm finishing Hunted today and then I got a hot tip on a book called Razing Kane. Rachel did a review on it and it sounded good to me. I have to admit the idea of another cop like in Keira Montclairs book has got me hot under the collar. This one has really suffered and is swept away when he sees the h. I can't wait but in the meantime I'll bide my time with the 6'4" hunk in Hunted.

Oh I'm over that craze! I've been reading Highlander romance books. I've read a few in a row, with one exception, Undeclared, which is a New Adult romance. I really liked that one. Anyhow, I'm about to start Captured by a Laird that Kate loaned me. I finally downloaded it to my Kindle yesterday, but I've been busy this week. Saturday is Lucian's official 5th birthday party, so I've been doing a bit of running around and shopping. Anyhow, I hope to start that book later today. I'm about to head out to do a few errands. Lucian has today off from school...he says his teachers are going to "college" today. LOL It's their professional day. He got accepted to the Kindergarten class at Sacred Heart--that's the school that my daughter attends. I have to take him in for a screening test next Thursday. God knows what they're going to ask him.

Well that sounds exciting but sad. I remember when Josh started kindergarten. Now he is in 7th grade. My kids were tested o cognitive skills and hand and eye coordination. It is starting to heat up in my book. The bad guy just found out who is girlfriend has been talking to. He now knows Zoes number and address and said he'd handle her. Clay stayed the night by himself. LOL He couldn't sleep with his hard on knowing Zoe was in the next room. Anyhow she is such a unique character she was a lawyer but now writes books with hot sex scenes. Clay was one of the characters she created for her third book and she has openly stated that she wants him in her bed. He is holding back but we all know how that will end. He's toast. LMAO
Hello ladies! I had to jump up and just say hi because I'm stuck at work!! I hope to read all of your messages soon :)
Wait a minute EB, I thought Zoe was some type of social worker? Am I wrong? She's a writer?
Yes it's sad about Lucian going to kindergarten. On the one had I'm kindof happy to be able to get back to some type of adult life, but on the other I'm sad because my baby is growing up!
Hi Rachel! Hope work doesn't suck too much. What do you do?
Okay, so I read Maralie from today's freebie list. It's only about 50 pages, so it's a quick read. It's a western; the first in a series. According to the author's note, this book is intended to introduce us to the town of Eden's Hollow and the character, Reuben. Reuben is the man who shows up on the h and H's doorstep and causes the H to rethink his cold attitude towards the h. Reuben is the hero in the next book; a book which is named for him, Reuben. Apparently with Reuben comes a who host of brothers who will eventually get their own books.
Anyhow, back to MARALIE. The story opens with the mayor introducing his idea to breathe new life back into the town. Eden's Hollow is practically dead and they need some new blood. The mayor's idea, put up a board with the names of all the eligible females, offer land to single men. In exchange for land the men must choose a female off of the list. LOL They sent out ads presumably all over the country. Before every planting season, the men pick names and they all get married; one after the other.
They story then skips to Maralie and Jake, the H and h. I was confused for a minute because they had just finished having sex and I couldn't understand why the h was having sex with another man. My mistake, they are already married. How they meet and what happened when they get married, the reader learns about through their thoughts. Jake is a huge ass in the beginning, and I didn't care for what I learned about him when Maralie thought about her wedding day. But when the story switches to Jake you realize that the poor man was really hurting over the loss of his first wife, which had occurred only a few months before he was dragged before the preacher--literally--to marry Maralie. I felt horrible for Maralie who is, according to her, always the last to be chosen for anything, and who had been abandoned by her parents. She was traveling west with her parents, and when they reached Eden's Hollow, they ran off and left her! Jake marries her and leaves her behind; she is forced to walk for hours to reach his land. I wanted to strangle the bastard within five minutes of starting the book. When they story starts they have already been married for three months. Jake's way of keeping Maralie at bay is to not talk to her.
When Reuben showed up on their doorstep, Maralie was so happy to finally have someone to talk to...the poor thing. This is when Jake's eyes begin to open up...although it does seem as though he has been softening up to Maralie over the three months, but stubbornly and stupidly continued to try to keep her at arms lengths. He has a fear of losing another person he loves, which I could understand. The story is super quick and is quite entertaining. It even has a bit of excitement towards the end. How to rate it? I'm not sure. I'm thinking 3 1/2 stars. We get a description of Maralie and Reuben, but not Jake. Reuben is very handsome; described as tall and blonde with sapphire blue eyes.

Hi Rachel sorry your stuck at work unless you want to be there. I had to dash off and get gas and groceries. I start back to work tomorrow. I just found out today that the lady that the lady who does our schedule resigned. I hope it doesn't mess things up too bad.

Wow so informative!!! Thanks so much for the book list of freebies and the descriptions. I will probably stay away from the ones that include other men. I HATE love triangles with a passion. I can't even deal lol!!! I buy my books through Barnes and Noble or I get them from my 3M library app that allows me to check out ebooks through my local library. But if there are freebies on only Amazon, sometimes I will just download them anyway :)

Also, in reference to highlander hotties, have you read Maya Bank's series How to Seduce a Scot? She has two series and they are FANTASTIC 100% safe too! No sexual scenes with other women or anything like that.

RF - oh it's okay :) I am actually an RN and I do love my job. I've had a pretty stressful week, but I work in the ICU and One Day Surgery so I split my time with each department. But if I had to chose between working and reading.... WELLL lol I would most definitely READ!

I WILL say that sadly, my old manager in the ICU died from lung cancer almost a year ago and the new manager I cannot STAND. She makes scheduling WAY harder on me and others than it needs to be.

Hi Rachel! Yes I'm a huge Maya Banks fan. I've actually read her Never Seduce a Scot like five times!!! Like you say, her highlander books are 100% safe. LOL. Have you read any of Julie Garwood's historical romance books? I love her and recently re-read all her historicals, but I have to admit that the sameness can get to you after a while. You knew what I mean...all the heroines are incredibly beautiful, the heroes overly large and fierce, good looking but not conventionally handsome. I do love her books though; I just take a break in between reading them.
As for Jen Frederick, Undeclared is the first book of hers that I've ever read and I discovered that one while perusing the freebies in the contemporary romance section on Amazon. I did love that book. I thought the couple was adorable!! I have to confess that up until this January I'd only read about five CR books in recent years, though that was the genre I initially read when I started reading romance books. Then in January of this year I got bit by the CR bug; not sure why, but I ended up reading close to two dozen in a row before returning to the highlands.
Anyhow I'll have to check out JR's other books. Thanks for the tip. I just finished a so called erotica short story--it was 17 pages long and IMO that was 17 pages too many. Talk about a waste. It's only saving grace is that it is so short I was able to flip through it super fast. LOL.
Re the list, you're most welcome. Some days they are blah, but we've had days when we've found some treasures. The only one that's kind of questionable as far as the whole love triangle goes is WHEN LOVE COMES TO CALL. I think the H has a rival for the h's affections, but I'm not sure how serious a rivalry it is. MARALIE I read and although there is mention of another man, she was already married to the H and this other guy only stayed with them one night. There was no rivalry there, just a wake up call for the H.

I can totally understand that. Amazon is cheaper because they don't charge tax like BN does but I just prefer the reader that Nook creates than the Kindle. I ALSO like that I have two local BN stores that I can just go to (and have!) when I have any issues with my device. I like the hands on support :)
I'm sorry they discontinued yours!!!!

I'm a kindle girl all the way myself. We own eight of them!!! I alone have three...then there's my husband and kids. LOL. But Kate is right, the kindle app on the nook works perfectly and that way you have the best of both worlds. We've gotten some really great books for free on Amazon. Some books I've downloaded one day only to see them selling for ten bucks the next day!! It's really incredible!
BTW it's good to know what your pet peeves are. It helps me flag books when I make the freebie list. EB and I are both sensitive to the sex issue. I'm okay with pre martial sex, but there's gotta be some kind of emotional connection. I'm not so picky with my CRs, but with the historicals I can't stand it when the H takes the he's innocence with no plans to commit. I also hate sex with a mistress once there is a commitment between the h and H. Ugh!
My biggest pet peeve however is the doormat heroine!!! I think that's the only time I'll give a book one star, that and if it's totally unreadable due to lack of editing, which only happened once. I can almost forgive the hero anything IF the heroine makes him pay for it...he MUST grovel! LOL

I simply won't read ANY romance where the Hero sleeps with any other women after he MEETS the heroine - regardless if they are together or not. Oh no, Rachel!!! You've just started a LK discussion. Wait and see, you'll soon be hearing from EB. She's a huge LK fan. So is Kate, and pretty much every other reading buddy I have. LOL I haven't read any of hers as yet and you'd think I committed a crime the way they behave when I say that! It's so bad that another friend actually bought me two LK novels when they went on sale on Amazon. THEN CAME YOU is one of them. The other is the other book in the same series. I haven't read either if them as yet. It's been a while since I've been to regency England. LOL. Let me know what you think when you're done.
If you're just now getting into historical romance you're in for a subliminal experience. It's my favorite genre ever. Once I started reading HRs I never looked back! My favorites are regency England, medieval period, and the highlands. Love those highlanders! BTW my favorite Julie Garwood novel is The Secret. I think I've read that book ten times!

Wow! You may have EB beat on that department! LOL. I actually love a mischief making mistress, so long as the H isn't sleeping with the heifer. I like when the H realizes that he's no longer attracted to the mistress and makes unfavorable comparisons even while the wretched female tries to cause problems.

LOL the employees where I am from are very nice and helpful. I was reading from my nook while taking a bubble bath one night and when I paused reading to actually do the bathing, I put my nook on what I thought was the toilet seat, but ALAS it was up so my nook went right into the toilet! It was the worst day of my life LOL! I got a new nook the next day and paid nothing.
Yes I loved JG's THE BRIDE. It was awesome, but I still loved THE SECRET more. Yes I hear you about the sex thing, Rachel. I'm super picky too, but I'll admit that it all depends on how the author presents it. Mostly I avoid them. There are too many other books out there that don't include the aspects I hate, so why tempt fate? That's why I really so heavily on reviews. I actually seek out the ones with spoilers in an attempt to avoid things I know will tick me off. Yet still ever once in a while I'll get blindsided. I read Margo Maguire's Norwyck's Lady. I absolutely hated that book! That one was like a slap in the face, because I'd read several of MM's books and loved them.
That one included just about everything I hated...H who distrusts the h, yet is intent on sleeping with her. The h who willingly gives her virginity to the H even though she knows he doesn't trust her, AND she keeps sleeping with him. OMG the scene whee he takes her virginity is the WORST I've ever read.
After they do the deed he says to her, you might have told me that you were a virgin. Now she has amnesia, so of course she couldn't remember whether or not she was a virgin. The H always thought she was lying when she claimed not to remember so that statement right after he sleeps with get is a slap in the face. She gets upset because he still doesn't trust her. He says that none of that is important, the only thing that matters is that THIS is good between them; this being sex. He then proceeds to take her back to bed and f her again and she, stupid, spineless twit that she is, goes along with him! I've never come so close to breaking my Kindle!!! I hated, hated, hated that book. I would have given it zero stars if I could. The very very worst part is that the bastard didn't have to do any groveling at the end. But honestly I hated the h so much I wished she'd just toss herself off a parapet!

Anyhow I'm headed to bed. My five year old came up to bed about an hour ago and said to me, shouldn't you be sleeping by now? He acts like he's the parent sometimes. LOL. BTW I'm starting Captured by a Laird tomorrow. I haven't had the time to dedicate to it so I put off starting it. I have a feeling it's one of those books that's going to have me neglecting everything else once I start it. I plan to immerse myself in it tomorrow after my son's birthday party. Yay!
BTW Rachel another good highlander romance is Highland Conqueror by Hannah Howell. It was a cube start read for both Kate and I. HH is pretty hit or miss with me, but I loved that particular book. No love triangle, sex after marriage, and the H established ownership of the h the very first time he laid eyes on her, even though she was the complete opposite of his usual type. She was tiny, thin, dark haired, and worst of all, English!! He liked tall, blonde, buxom Scottish lasses. LOL
FYI that book is loanable if you ever want to read it.
